Thanks Westy. My memory isn’t what it used to be, but that Hastings QF win, and Welch’s amazing final shift, is basically seared into my brain 20 years later! (Admittedly I checked the box score for Blaine’s exact deficit.) That would’ve been an even more fun tourney if Roseau didn’t just lay waste to the rest of the field

As an older gent this lineup of "stars from the past" really grabbed me. As a young tike growing up in Duluth my father used to take me to UMD games and I just marveled at the skill "Huffer" displayed game in and game out. Loved it when some big brute a foot taller than him came charging and intent on drilling Huffer into the boards, which back then didn't give much, if at all. Huffer, all five foot something of him, would bend down sending the big fellow hard into the boards, leaving Huffer with the puck to create a play.

His passing way too young a couple years ago brought back those fond memories...

RIP Huffer.
He was amazing.
Speed and skill over size.

Fun reminiscing about the great Duluth Cathedral Hilltoppers teams back in the '60's, especially the one that snapped the Broncos' 59 game winning streak in 1967.

I guess I didn't put '10 Tonka in because they lost twice to the Edina team that beat them in the final.
The 2010 Tonka team was 22-1-1 in the regular season and beat Edina twice during the season including 7-1 (the loss was 5-4), outscored their opponents in the regular season 154 to 36 playing a Top 1 or 2 schedule in the state, outscored their opponents 19-3 in sections including games against BSM and EP, and had to play a 4 OT game the night before the state final. Not including them as one one of the best teams to not win a title is a pretty glaring omission.
