CEC JV vs. Hermantown JV was abruptly suspended mid-game last night as the news hit. As many of you know, Hermantown played Duluth East on Monday night. Apparently the positive test was from a test performed on Tuesday. As many of you are also aware, the CEC/Hermantown varsity game moved forward as scheduled. My feeling is that if the JV player from East played or even dressed for the varsity game vs. Hermantown, they would have stopped the varsity game last night as well.

Admittedly, I wasn't there. But I'm told by an East parent who was at the game that the "positive" East player played in the JV game...but was also on the bench for the entire Varsity game and actually skated a handful of shifts. In a discussion on the East hockey Facebook page, another parent stated the same thing.

The player's name does appear on the "live game sheet" from the Hermantown game on The Hub....although I'm also aware these sheets aren't always the most accurate and can have discrepancies. For example, 19 skaters are listed in East's lineup that night, which is one too many:

All things considered, I have to wonder whether Gentry might have second thoughts about playing Hermantown tonight....

And can we talk about what a crap year. No one's season should have to end this way. I'm afraid it is going to happen more. You could be doing your very best at win a game at state and have to forfeit because the other team had someone playing. But it is what it is...

Agree, everyone has their own opinion of course and I respect that, but in particular the risk of transmission to an opponent seems incredibly conservative with the current stage of the pandemic and progress on the vaccination of the vulnerable populations. Thus, a single positive test could potentially end the season for approximately 70-80 players. Really feel for the players on these teams.

I’m looking forward to your eventual magnum opus breaking down the East season, but it is curious that after “the streak” dating back to 1953-54 was broken, that now makes two straight losing seasons for the Hounds (not meaning to kick a dog when they’re down).

Yep. The Cardinals had tweeted earlier in the week looking for a game on Saturday, but I have not heard if they got anything lined up.

St. Cloud cancelled their game with Grand Rapids last night (Thursday). Kind of strange they can schedule a game on Sat. with Alexandria. Curious as to what's really going on.

We were at Dakotah Thursday night for the Prior Lake Lakeville South 4-4 tie . Very even game, shots were very even , and I would guess zone time was about even. Lakers D bottled up Boche pretty well although he did get one in early second.Lakers showed good character by coming back from two goal deficits three times during the game, would have been awfully easy to fold the cards against the Cougars . With about three minutes remaining, Lakers Riley Dueber fired from the point an innocent looking shot right of the net. Apparently bounced off one of the Cougars D men and fell in front of the goal and Schumaker quickly jumped on it and put it past Cody Ticen for the tie . The tie held thru regulation and OT

For those of you old enough to remember, it was my pleasure to spend 15 minutes talking with late 60s/early 70s UMD star and all WCHA first liner Walt Ledingham . He is grandpa of Lakers Dman Will Magnuson . I had a number of small world connections.
I watched Walt with UMD as a Deast teenager in Duluth at the fairly new DECC. The Magnusons were neighbors of my family in the UMD neighborhood of Duluth . Finally of course , I watched Cade Ledingham win the State Tourney for Deast at the Civic Center in 1995 . It was very special to meet the multi generational both sides of the family that were all there at Dakotah last night. Call it a Pandemic winning story!

He did not. He dressed for senior night but did not play at all.

This sux for many reasons. Whoever makes it to state out of this section won't have the battle
tested feeling of getting past East and Randolph in the playoffs.

No matter how you look at it, this section is the lesser for it now.

Do you think Randolph still shows up for the section seeding meeting and has his little get together in the men's bathroom before the final vote?
