Two games in a row I turn on Roseau in OT and watch them score within a minute or two of turning it on...

Breck 1, Minneapolis 0
Mustangs with the better of play and a 10-5 shot advantage
After two
Breck 2, Minneapolis 1
Shots 19-17 Minneapolis

What a weird, wild period. Breck scored on a nice tip-in early, then all heck broke loose midway through the period. Breck took a deserved major for head contact, and then the following occurred:
- Minneapolis scores to draw within one
- Breck player hauled down on SH break
- Mpls goalie with great glove save on the penalty shot
- Mpls takes a minor to negate rest of their PP
Final
Breck 5, Minneapolis 3 (eng)

Hats off to Minneapolis, who played very well and had several close chances that just didn’t go. They responded admirably to their regular season being shut down and came to play in sections.

Props to La Crescent for reaching the section semifinals for the first time in school history.

Thanks for the update. I was unable to watch. Figured the game was a coin toss. Margin a shocker! I think Tonka, Wayzata, and Edina are all pretty good and could easily win a QF game as an unseeded team at state.

Hill 1
Stillwater 1

After 2

Stillwater is outplaying Hill in certain stretches right now. Several great chances, and I think are really disrupting Hill with their physical play. Should be an interesting 3rd!

Midway through two
Delano 1, Orono 1

Announcer situation is horrible, like a transistor radio held up to a microphone. Also, the Delano AD and arena should be embarrassed. The home section is packed shoulder to shoulder in that tiny barn.

LDC dominant in all respects. Looks like another meeting with Hutch, who is up big on Willmar.

Kudos and credit to the Stillwater Ponies. What a game! I need a drink.

I've watched most of Hill's game this year, and Stillwater played them as well as anyone has. They were physical, they won a ton of faceoffs (not so many in the 3rd period) and had very crisp passing. Erickson in goal had to make a number of great saves.

Stillwater's goalie should be incredibly proud of himself. He made a number of fantastic saves, and stuffed our Mr. Hockey finalist Joe Palodichuk on a breakaway. That isn't gonna happen very often!

Hill scored first, Stillwater answered. Hill scored again, Stillwater answered. Finally Hill scored with about 3 minutes left in the game, and then generally played keep-away for the rest of the game. I wasn't going to say it, but I sort of cringed when Stillwater got the 4-seed in this section. They haven't been playing great down the stretch, but I watched a number of their games and they worried me.

Again, all credit to Stillwater. They really gave the Pioneers everything they wanted, and almost more.

Stillwater played exactly the game they needed to. I figured 3 goals would be enough, but their goalie was outstanding and kept them in the game. Hill was the faster team and turned the puck over a lot, but Stillwater capitalized when they needed to. They played well enough to win. Good game to watch and happy to have won.

EP 6 -- HF 0, and Batchelder/Blake only had 1 pt each. The D came up huge with points in this one.

2nd time this season EP beats HF 6-0. HF now goes to 0-7 lifetime against EP, including 6 losses in section play.

Tonka vs. EP for the 2AA marbles

Just adding comments that haven’t been covered above

Minnetonka beat prior Lake 3 to 1 in a fairly even game.
Newhouse got a nice power-play goal early after a questionable hooking call on Laker defenseman protecting the low slot from a crossing pass . Minnetonka Goalie took over from there and made a lot of quality saves throughout . Soderberg almost brought the Lakers to within one late in the game , would have been interesting .

Lots of penalties , chirping , And student section animosity in this one.

After the final whistle ending the Lakers season, it really struck me, I really don’t see why they couldn’t continue the handshake tradition to relieve some of the player emotions afterwards. Cmon, They all just breathed on one another for the entire game, What’s wrong with a lineup and a fist bump at least?

Had a chance to meet and chat with Bobby and Joe Brinks grandparents before the game, we walked in together.

One other big story line during the day for the girls thread I suppose. Centennial girls and Stillwater girls advance to the state tournament in both cases with ninth grade starting Goalies performing really really well . Stillwater Goalie was Lily Timmons, sister of gentry Goalie and Brimsek finalist Alex Timmons

Next week I am cautiously optimistic we will get to that Saint Thomas section final and to the gentry section final, but not at all optimistic we will get to anybody else
Will be the first 4aa final we have missed in person since 2007 OR earlier

This will be the first time I will not be at a Section 4AA (formerly know as Section 3AA, formerly known as Section 3, formerly known as Region 3*) final involving my Pioneers. I have missed some of the finals where we lost in the semis, 1981 & 1982 come to mind, and possibly a one or two others. It actually smarts a bit more than it will to miss the state tournament. Beginning at the Saint Paul Auditorium, moving to the Met Center, then the horrific Mariucci years that were very unkind to us, followed by the Coliseum, before the current site of Aldrich, Ive seen every one of our finals in person.

*If can recall when hockey still had regions, I know I am a certified Old Guy.
