Completely enjoyed the CEC/MH game. CEC's Baublitz made an excellent play for the first goal by anticipating a MH D-zone pass and made a great shot into the upper corner. Maunu is a standout D and easily the best player on the ice, wow. The goaltending was so good on both teams it could have been 0-0. Thunder looked very poised for CEC and MH's Bruggerman kept her team in the game being outshot by a large margin. Both G's were very impressive in a game that had a lot of energy and effort by both teams.

Needless to say the showcase EP/Stillwater game wasn't nearly as exciting and both teams looked uninspired IMO. Stillwater's D was routinely beat 1-1 on even long rushes and showed very poor defensive fundamentals. The goaltending was below average on both teams, but EP was the team that cashed in. SW lost many opportunities by shooting directly into the EP goalie Burke who doesn't move well. EP lit up the SW goalie Plumm on some soft goals, even scoring from behind the net. EP controlled large parts of this game and SW had problems mounting a sustained attack. Despite this, SW could have made it a game but promptly shot themselves in the foot by giving up an ugly shorthanded goal where Pezon split two slow-footed D and undressed Plumm on an unspectacular deke that still left her on the opposite side of the net--ugh. By the time SW went to the backup goalie (who made some nice saves) it was too late.

Although Pezon got the headlines again, her linemate Andrea Green had a heck of a game and played much harder. Pezon does a fine job of floating at the far blue line and hanging high in the O-zone without forechecking. I'll admit she has great hands and instincts, but will have a hard time at the college level if she tries to be a cherry-picker.

Credit EP's defense for neutralizing Ms. Hockey. Jones showed some flashes and you can see she has amazing skills and power, but EP's depth and solid team play is too much for one player to overcome, particularly with SW's defensive and goaltending woes last night. Jones lost her cool in the mid-third and could easily have been called for checking from behind and lost for the game, but they only gave her a minor.

It's not hard to envision EP letting down in the next game after beating arguably the 2nd best team in the tournament, but CEC doesn't have the depth to hang with them. Thunder will keep them in the game and Maunu can help take the edge of their offense, but it's hard to see anyone stopping EP now.

A much needed win for Rochester M/L over Holy Angels. Good game for goalie Sinead Murphy, but was much better effort by Roch M/L skaters than the previous night when they lost their zip. For their reward, they get Stillwater now. I'm on my way there, hope its a good game.

Were any of EP's goals scored entirely by home town heroes? I was there but didn't keep track. I know transfers scored and assisted on most of the goals. <img src=

Transfers... Wow... People, how many years has this been going on now? Kids are going to transfer regardless of how many people complain. The best team won tonight, congrats to EP. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Let the players play, the coaches coach, and the refs ref.
