Research shows that girls who excel in sports at a young age continue to excel later. With Boys it is not the same.

The St. Paul Blades have a very talented 8th grader - her name is Corrine Henning and she is currenlty leading them in points with 30 through 15 games. Very talented as well as an extremly smart player.

Rose Alleva is definitely one of the best I've seen play.. she comes from a very athletic family [their story is amazing..] anyway too bad she doesn't have enough of a team behind her to help her out..

Class of 2010 All-Star Team (8th Graders Now)

Add Lexi Wangen a 8th grade defenseman for Crookston on your list of players to watch. Lexi is a very physical player who knows how to use her body and stay out of the box. She has excellent "hockeysense" handles and shoots the puck extremely well. In addition to being excellent in her defensive zone, Lex knows how to put the puck in the net. To date the #8 ranked Pirates are 20-4-1. Lexi currently has 15 goals & 27 assists. Look for her to be a force in round 2 of the playoffs against Roseau. Quality D are in high demand and I would keep my eye on this one.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... eysense at: 2/8/06 5:36 pm

Ashley Stenerson

Ashley Stenerson, an 8th grader from Moorhead is very good. She just scored a hat trick vs. Grand Rapids today. The last goal was spectacular, an end to end rush, unassisted. She will probably break every Spud career scoring record by the time she graduates, if she improves every year from the level she is already at.

You're right about PHM's Buchite. I saw her play at the Shoot out in Dodge over Christmas break. she's impressive, a fast skater, very good stickhandler with a hard shot. She scored a couple (I think) times on fantastic rushes from her own blueline. Very poised for an 8th grader.

Lakeville

Lindsey made the Varsity team because there were few goalies trying out (I believe every goalie that tried out made it) and she played varsity only because her dad is a goalie coach at Lakeville. I believe her stats this year (05-06) are got so impressive and they stopped posting them on the website last month. A few more years of playtime and she will be an impressive goalie but she should have stayed at her age level were she could developed properly. This is not ment to bash her, just another case of pushing a young "kid" to hard by an overbearing parent/coach.

There's 1-2 8th graders on a lot of varsity rosters this year that I have seen. And a few of them are 1st line players too. Why would an 8th grade goalie be too young to plaay varsity?

Suckerpuch,
I guess your name fits you well. Give Lindsey and her Dad a break. Should you let your kids play at their ability level or at their friends ability level.

Give them a break?

Like I said, I'm not bashing her. She should end up being a very good player in the next few years. What troubles me is that many older, more mature and equally talented girls have been pushed aside. Having dad as a coach on a Minnesota High School hockey team always, and I repeat always leads to favoritism. This situation should be avoided by all DA's. It only leads to poor team chemistry and general animosity. Do you know what kind of players Herb Brooks liked to coach. Orphans!!! Because they have no parents or parent coaches to mess things up.

Her excessive crying after every game they lose shows the maturity factor. You win some, you lose some, that's life. I think the point many are trying to make is often at this age, they need to grow emotionally. Some girls are able to play at this level and some quite honestly aren't. It's a personal choice. What are you willing to give to get to the next level. If you don't have, stay and play with kids your own age.

I've heard about a player from Cloquet. I'm not sure of her name and haven't seen her play, but I know she's in 8th grade, on their first line and has scored a hat trick in a game this season. Anyone know who she is?

I have seen her play. She's definitely got some skill, especially for an eighth grader.

Rebekah Swancutt plays for Austin, I think this is her 2nd year V, she's also a standout in softball "Pitcher" look for her at state in both sports. Plays alot like her brother, Josh Swancutt who's a standout on the boys V

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... ockey24 at: 1/21/06 8:59 am

Crox Girl

Lexi Wangen-an 8th grade girl out of Crookston. I seen her play up in Roseau on Sat. and she show'd some "mad" skills for an 8th grader, she had 1 goal and 3 assists and she is a defensemen, her name was Lexi Wangen and she is going to be one to keep an eye out for, and apparently she started on Crookston's varsity as a 7th grader to I heard. By the looks of it on Sat. that Crox team is quite the team, they can play hockey

Lakeville So. has two goalies, the other is a 7th grader! Guess they went with "experience" for the playoffs, ha. If she avoids the burnout of starting 5-6 years for the same team, she should be a good one. I like 8th grader Foss on that team too, great hands. Competitive young team, all returning.

Class act GHS. Congrats to your girls.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... pitreal at: 2/8/06 2:25 pm

Foss impressed me too, as did #9 Harvey & #18 Lehman. LV S scored 3 PP goals on 6 chances and are a very well coached and disciplined team for being so young. They, like Simley, have had the honor of playing in a tougher conference than some other A teams, and I think that prepares teams well for secitons. I personally thought that LV S was a little underrated coming in to sections due to SOS considerations - and - while young teams look weaker early on, they can improve greatly over the course of a season. It is true though that the wear and tear of a long HS season can be much to shoulder for younger players. I never believed this until I coached a very young group one year....

Very physical game - lots of penalties, etc.

Lots of shots - no doubt!

It was a fun game but just too bad that someone has to lose a game like that. LV S was a class act and that says a lot about those kids, their leadership, and how they carried themselves at such a young age. They will be a solid group in the future I'm certain!

I agree Lindsay Kauchick is outstanding at her age. I expect great things from her in the future. Her father is her goalie coach and works her hard and well. Last year when she started for us (just plain Lakeville no North or South) it took a lot of her to jump in as a 7th grader and start. The other goalie, Chelsey, a 7th grader, has a lot of talent as well.

Most of the younger girls on South came from Lakeville's U-14 A program that dominated last year. When they are upper-classmen I expect them to dominate. The only question about next year are some sophs and juniors may be quitting.

One of the most dynamic forwards that doesn't get nearly as much credit as she deserves is South's Emma Lehman. I may be biased because she is one of my best friends, but anytime she is on the ice she poses a tremendous threat - especially on the power play as GHS may have experienced. As a defender I can admit I pay extra attention to her. She reminds me of a younger Allie Thunstrom - just not so explosive.

On the OTHER side of Lakeville, Lakeville North (my team) is blessed with one of the most talented players of her age. Stephanie Hatcher has the capability to play at either defense or forward, which gives our coaches great flexibility. Most of the season she has played defense and has done a phenomenal job. Now the coaches have moved her up to forward for need of some offensive punch, but I'm telling you, you have got to check her out.

Just remember this name for future reference - Stephanie Hatcher - Mark my words she's going to be something special.
