WCHA Coaching Changes

by brookyone
It appears another WCHA coaching position has been vacated and subsequently opened up for potential replacements. Speaking of the women's Fighting Sioux of UND. I'd think lots of coaches would be interested in this job...I suspect local DIII, DI assistants and perhaps a handful out of Minnesota high school hockey coaching ranks among them as well. Nice pile of bricks to play / coach in up there in GF. Programs seems a little in disaray at present as well...good opportunity for someone looking for a challenge.

Is it true that Rivard is gone?

UND Coach

No, sorry. It was her assistant Colontino that left. My fault, I shoulda specified that in my post. It sounds as though most the UND fans and some of the players wish it would have been Rivard that left.

In my humble opinion - Colontino is an outstanding coach from what I know and was a tireless recruiter.

The lastest odds out of Vegas have this being Rivard's last year
at 100 to 1. She would have been gone this year, but they would have
had to pay her and a new coach's salary. It's too bad those girls have to
struggle thru another year.
Next year they will get a new coach! :D

Word is that BSU has finally come around and decided to make 18 full scholarships available to the women's hockey team starting in the 2007-08 season (16 in 2006-07). Good news which will definitely assist Sertich in strengthening the Beavers competive edge in the WCHA and D-I overall

Easton Shootout

by brookyone
I hope no one minds my occasional posts applying to college hockey in the HS hockey forum but I wanted to mention an opportunity to watch some great women's hockey in the TC metro area this weekend. The Easton Shootout to be played at Ridder Arena featuring Minnesota and Bemidji of the WCHA facing off against New Hampshire and Maine of HE. One matchup will pit Minnesota against UNH in a rematch of last seasons Frozen Four semi final. New Hampshire is currently ranked #2 in the country while Minnesota is ranked #3 in one poll, #5 in another. Either way you look at it it's two of the nations best going at it...and UNH has payback on their mind after losing the 2006 FF semi final to the Gophers. Both Minnesota and Bemidji have loads of local talent on their rosters. Also something of a debut for former Roseville coach Steve Sertich as the new head coach at BSU.

She does not lose a year of eligibility, but all transfers within the WCHA
have to sit a year.
