Ok boys it was a big weekend with quite a few shake ups. I took into consideration the games I saw and scores posted along with imput from those who are in the know and here is what we got. Some were expected to win and do so, others fall by the wayside. You have to play to show!

1. Duluth East – a dominating road trip propels them to 1st
2. EP – Still haven’t won their own tourney yet.
3. Wayzata – Took down Centennial and EP, was tough all weekend
4. Jefferson – 3rd Place in EP against good teams
5. Edina - Taft stays & so do the Hornet at the top of the rankings
6. White Bear Lake – Good Run in Bracket, Falls to Stillwater in Shootout
7. Stillwater – Big Movers, with a solid showing in EP
8. Centennial – Couldn’t pull it together, looked tired, or unmotivated?
9. Elk River – To # 9 with a bullet, great team speed all weekend
10. St. Cloud – has anyone seen them yet?
11. Bemidji – A top team from the north proves it this weekend
12. Chaska – can’t handle the physical game, tough loss in shoot out
13. Andover – On the board with a good team effort in EP
14. Brainerd – Solid game vs. Moorehead gets them on the charts
15. Grand Rapids – Everyone says they should be here
16. Woodbury – can’t pull it together this weekend & are done on Saturday
17. Rochester North – not so good in EP
18. Osseo – wins Burnsville tourney
19. Tartan – Killed by Woodbury 6-2
20. Eagan & Maple Grove - No wins all weekend

Outside looking in:

Blaine – Bad Bad Weekend, 2 goals scored
Burnsville – Runner up in tourney
Moundsview – wins vs. nobodies doesn’t count
Lakeville South – falls in Burnsville
Moorehead – the big drop after getting beat up by Brainerd and Bemidji
Roseau – do something to get back on the charts
Hermantown – lots of talk, but a no show in Burnsville

The only thing holding woodbury back from Sunday was Jeffersons fluky win agains blaine.

Blaine Offensive zone face off with 5 seconds to go. Blaine pulls goalie and sends out the extra skater. Blaine loses the draw and a Jefferson D winds up from the far goaline and puts it in the middle of the net for the win. If this doesn't happen woodbury is in the Winners bracket on Sunday.

Woodburys goalie troubles are improving

I think this is getting real close. Osseo definitely deserves to be there and maybe even a little higher. They not only won the Burnsville tourney but they beat the much talked about Hermantown team in the process.

I would have Edina a little higher and Chaska and Jefferson a little lower but these teams certainly are a good representation of the top 20 based on REAL action.

The next big tourneys are the Christmas tourneys in Edina and Bloomington. League play will help solidify things during the next few weeks.

What day does mhj come out with their rankings?

This early in the season rankings don't mean a whole lot. GR has played a few tough teams and all games have been fairly close. In a sloppy game by both teams, GR lost to Duluth East 3-1. Neither played well.

burnsville tourney

the burnsville tourney was weird:

#1 seed-Hermantown
2-Burnsville
3-Lakeville South
wild card-Osseo

Lakeville South beats Osseo 4-3 (in pool play for 3rd spot)
Oss. over Herm. 4-1 (semis)
Burns. over Lak. Sth. 4-0 (semis)
Lak. Sth. over Herm. 3-2 (third)
Oss. over Burns. 2-1 for the ship

Not so sure about Stillwater. Woodbury pretty much dominated them in Duluth. Tartan in the Top 20....who's on drugs here????

Minnesota Hockey Journal Rankings

The rankings according to the Minnesota Hockey Journal, what a Joke.

"EACH WEEK a panel of experienced youth hockey coaches for each age group submits rankings to Minnesota Hockey Journal"

1. Edina
2. Eden Prairie
3. Centennial
4. Bloomington Jefferson
5. Moorhead
6. Wayzata
7. St. Cloud
8. Duluth East
9. White Bear Lake
10. Rochester
11. Elk River
12. Chaska
13. Maple Grove
14. Eagan
15. Hermantown
16. Blaine
17. Stillwater
18. Bemidji
19. Andover
20. Grand Rapids

What experienced youth hockey coaches are they talking to that would still rank Edina number 1 and have duluth east number 8? Edina has not had much success against many teams this year, they barley got by St cloud and hopkins, lost to Moorhead and Centennial. Plus Duluth east has been on a roll....including a tie/shootout win vs EP and wins over Centennial, White bear and Grand Rapids. Did I mention Blaine has won like 2 games this year and is still Rankied 16th????? By the way Centennial is to high they just lost to Wyazata and Jefferson 4-1 yet they are still ranked above them. Oh and Finally Moorhead has stunk the it up, loosing games to Brainerd, Bemidji and has not looked good except their victory over Edina.

They must be the coaches from some of the teams that get ranked higher than the deserve. This weekend should paint the picture a little more clear some of the top teams will play in the Moorhead tourny.

Ok who is actually in charge of these rankings? I understand that the coaches send in their picks, but who actually comes up with the rankings?\

I actually liked it better when when there was one guy doing these rankings and he explained why each team was where he put them. Kinda of like this thread.

Chuck, you do a tremendous job at these rankings I hope you keep it up all year. I like it when a team is listed as 9 but goes 0 -4 and gets kicked out of the top 20, they should, none of this slowly make your way out. I hope you keep it up, Chuck. Thank you!

rochester is not top 10 they have beaten no one and the teams that are outside the top 10 what have you done? the top is top unitl proven different. beating somebody once doesnt make you top 10...so does it matter as long as the top 10 has the right teams in it?

I completely agree, they are over rated. I was just saying it will be a good D8 game tonight.

What a joke

Maybe this should be a thread all its own, but what would you rank the top 20 bantam teams if you don't agree with Chuck's or MHJ?

I heard from a Rochester parent that they went 0-2-1 in EP.

Someday maybe the rankers will actually try to do a little research to find out where within 5 spots a team should be.

Norris fan - It looks like Mounds View got another win the other night this time over Osseo.

edina #1?

The answer that ive came up with for edina being #1 is simple. No one likes edina and the only place edina can go from #1 is down. They did come off of a shaky start in centennial but have played well since then. I think they should be around #8 right now. ep, centennial, jefferson, duluth east, should be battling for the top spot at this time of the season.

They do have their goalie back for his 3rd year of bantams. His name is Matt Cooper and i have heard he has been very good in the nets. They have a very good first line with Kenny Mellin (returner), Kyle Lutzka ( returner), and Nolan Meyer (first year). They have Derek Forbort on D and is also very good. They don't have one absolute star player but they play very good as a team.
