Patrick white played maybe 5 shifts all game
He also played, along with the other first liners, a couple minutes too much in the OT...almost cost them a breakaway goal as they were gassed. You cant lean on one player anyway, it is still a team sport. That cat is good and will be racking up more frequent flier miles at the end of the H.S. season.
As far as over or under on the ratings...who cares? Whoever gets out of 7AA has a hot goalie, and great talent. Hands down best section in the state.
You wouldn't want to meet these pinheads in an alley.

Since the topic was is Brainerd Overrated or Underrated, i'm going to go out on a limb here and actually reply to that and put where GR19 lives to the side.
I don't think that anyone on this board a month ago would have penciled in a win for Brainerd against Elk River, and surely not a tie against Grand Rapids. They started off the year 3-0-1, many probably would have predicted 2-2-0 at this point. Perhaps even 1-3. To me, that has underrated written all over it. Am I being unrealistic and saying that they are a top 5 or even top 10 team in the state thus far? Absolutely not. I do, however, believe in giving them the credit that they deserve. They are not the team that many thought would finish in the bottom half of Section 7. While there is still a lot of hockey to be played yet this season, they've pulled off some big performances already against proven teams.
SO just think about that before you insist that they are OVERrated just to go against the thick Brainerd bias that seems to flood this board. They're a solid hockey team and should make noise for the rest of the year.
Underrated.

They've played good thus far, but it's easy to be skeptical when they do this EVERY year and crash in the playoffs. I'll be sold on em for sure if they win a playoff game and challenge in the semi's.
cool

Last year they LOST TO F-Lake early, got beat by GR CEC, and EAST throughout the season. Yes they got second in the silver division in the Schwan's, but to say they started off this hot last year, would be an irrational statement

He is saying they always have a good regular season and then don't make any noise in the playoffs

Its too early to say where they should exactly sit in section standings, but their games against ER and GR prove that they are not a team to be taken lightly (like many predicted and still think). Considering the predictions for the two games, Brainerd is obviously underrated. But it is still only 4 games into the season (for Brainerd) and there is alot of hockey to still be played.
Big upcoming games:
Schwan's Cup (holiday tournament, silver division)
Jan. 2, @ Cloquet
Brainerd

Let's be honest here guy's this to me is probably the toughest section to come out of period! I think what's really lost here is that you have to excude so much to make it to the Big show that it may cost teams at times!

VERY
Brainerd finished second in silver to Hill-Murray last year, thus giving them the one seed. Last year, Cretin won the bronze division, thus giving them the 8 seed
Tough to get that draw against the defending champs, but oh well, should be a good game
PS didn't Reider Jensen play well against Cretin last year???

Jensen, got us that far didn't he?
Anyways, what is Ty Eigner's background. Even though he's not working with the best talent, it seems he's put in a good defensive system.

It's all about playoffs. It always has been. When they win a section title, they will be respected.

I believe he played and was a Captain on the National Championship Bowling Green team in the 80's with Rob Blake, not sure what year

After that he played in the "I" for several years

He coached at Rosemount (his hometown) for 2 or 3 years before coming to Brainerd

He has also worked at MHC for many years
In the next couple of years you will see the product of the youth program under Tys' supervision

When it all comes down to it, you couldn't be more correct!
