I predict a very cold game; a couple shattered pucks, a few more kids out with hypothermia, and TV timeouts to get the snowfall shoveled off the ice. Other than that.. LOW takes it in a...well not barn burner (hence no barn) but a close one. 4-3
The predicted temp of 20 will not be all that uncomfortable for the players if they have some long johns or something under their equipment. Pucks will not shatter at that temp. and I seriously doubt hypothermia will occur.
I am wondering where the players will go between periods?

LOW 4
GOVS 2
That's not that cold when your skating. 4th lines will be cold.
Wonder if they will have an outdoor concession stand selling "pucks" like we used to call em? Frozen scooter pies

Here a couple things I can almost guarantee you'll see from Johnson if you're at the game or watching on FSN...
Tyler Hendrickson will take 2 tripping/hooking calls because his 8 foot long arms tend to get him in trouble. He looks like a praying mantis.
Sam Soika will make at least one rush up ice where he weaves in and out and around at least 3 or 4 defenders that will make you say "that kid is pretty good, why aren't many D-1 programs looking at him"... then he will take a stupid, hothead penalty that will make you say "oh, that's why". He's a little "salty".
Caleb Theesfeld is a fun little player to watch. He's short, has a little bit of "girth", but he's quick and a pretty good playmaker.

I doubt the cold will have any more effect on Johnson then it wil LOTW... every Minnesota kid grew up playing outside. The Govs have outscored their last 3 opponents (albeit weaker opponents) 29-3... LOTW being one of them.
I really hope it's a close game because I think it's a really cool event that deserves a good game, but my fear is that it may not be.
closer game

i really think that this game will be alot closer than the game that was played last weekend at Aldrich arena. The outdoor atmosphere and conditions will level the playing field somewhat. Main change for the Bears from last weekend is the addition of depth at the point, since John Clark has returned to the line-up after sitting out a few games from a thigh bruise injury. Sounds like the weather will cooperate with temps in the 20s and there is an expected attendance of 3-5,000 fans.
prediction...
LOW 6
Johnson 4

I was obviously being facetious about my comment. It'll be a very fun game to watch though that's for sure. Hope the FSN annoucers don't complain about the cool temps though!

Maybe they'll have portable fish houses with sunflower heaters nearby! haha

Does anyone know how the ice condition is. Obviously it will be hard but are there any cracks in the ice?

Yep huge crack down the middle they are going to risk these players drowning and freezing so that they can play a hockey game.
Im sure they are making sure the ice is perfect.

Why would there be any cracks in the ice? I read the town has spent 30K for this event. I am sure they have made plans to make the ice as close to perfect as possible.

How are they going to resurface in between periods?

hmm, zamboni maybe? what do you think they did to make the rink in the first place, just shovel it off and call it good?

No smart (_!_) but zamboni's arent' exactly light and I don't know how much ice they have up there in the northland, figured maybe it might not be safe to be driving a zamboni on a lake.

well, its not on the lake, its on the river. Don't worry, there is plenty of ice. Maybe that will be LOW's advantage. Those city boys will be afraid of going through the ice if they turn too sharp or stop too fast!

i wouldnt be surprised if any kids went into shoc
going from 20 degree weather to a nice warm warming house between periods might do alittle damge to the nerves and muscles.

Are we forgetting that this game was played outside for decades. Those boys will be fine.

They've been flooding the rink for weeks... I'm sure the ice will be great.

I have a rink on a lake and sometimes it cracks when its really cold cuz the ice shifts and expands. Sometimes the cracks 1-2 inches wide. You never know in cold weather, the ice can be perfect one day and huge cracks in it the next. I was just wondering how the ice is.

I htought the whole day was great, but I have commend all those that made the Classic happen. What a calssy gesture to give those kids a stick at the end of the game. I could only imagine the stories in years to come to all those that participated!
