And yes the tie with Austin was too bad for Waseca. They had many, many chances to put the game away and didn't do it. And Austin's situation is very depressing for southern Minnesota hockey. A once proud program is a shadow of its former self, despite heroic efforts from the guys who stayed for the entire season (Dooley, Bennett, Figliola, Klingfus, Harber, etc.).[/quote]

what?? heroic efforts? i was at one game and who ever the goalie was. was dropping f bombs and figliola i believe missed quite a few games for a suspension!?? who are these other kids? didnt one of the mcmasters brothers stick it out?

Good stuff.
Glad to see the passion in 1A remains.
Should be a great tourney.
Whoda thunk Waseca's coach moves to Mkto East, and Waseca ends up with the higher seed? Strange but true.
AL/West will be a barn-burner, they've played some classics the past couple years.

Ummm...No, he didn't. He said Lourdes 2 and New Prague 3

Again, this game (assuming no upsets in the quarterfinals) should be a good one.

But if NP looks past LaCrescent or Lourdes overlooks Faribault on Thursday, anything is possible.

There's pretty much a rivalry between the two. Hopefully Essay coaches defense first and the game doesnt turn into a shootout like the last one which went Albert Lea won (8-5).

I don't have a horse in this race, but I've enjoyed 1A hockey these past couple years.
I've seen almost all of these teams, at least a little bit of them, and imo, Lourdes will win it all, IF they play in 4th gear. It seems to me they have played most of the year in 3rd gear. Just the feeling I get from them.
When they are clicking, they are very, very good.
Their senior class has no excuses, they have played in some big games, and most have played a LOT since they were Sophs.
That said, any of AL/West/NP/RW beating them would not surprise me.
Enjoy it. Should be one heck of a ride.
This section takes a beating from the un-informed across the state, and it shouldn't. Its been home to some awesome hockey the past 5-10 years. It's been most fun seeing teams go up and down, ride the waves, and many over-achieve.
* the great Lourdes run 8-10 years ago, when they turned out D1 players and could beat anyone in the state
* AL emerging as the next contender, in the Breuer and Trail days. Lourdes left and gave everyone hope. AL went to state, got their feet wet, and improved every time they went. Took great teams from Warroad and elsewhere and played them tough.
* Marshall and Mankato East taking their turns, East losing a couple finals before finally getting to the Show with a strong senior group. Marshall upsetting a proud AL team in a packed GAC, which re-focused AL and drove them for years afterwards.
* West under Essay making a statement by playing freshmen and sophs, taking their lumps, but getting the ultimate reward eventually. Fighting thru tough challenges from New Ulm and AL, and eventually Lourdes again.
* NU and Marshall moving out of the section, but re-adding Lourdes and keeping the section as competitive as ever. Red Wing and New Prague emerging as powerhouses.

It's been a fun run. This year probably won't be any different.
Nothing better than having a bunch of decent programs who can compete. Enjoy!
