I said for the Rochester schools if you look again. If I had to chose a Rochester team to beat Lakeville South (Which I know won't happen), it would be Mayo.

I would have said the same thing about the "Bucky" Badgers the other night versus undefeated OSU Buckeyes, but it happened...
Mayo has played 100% better in the 2nd half of the season from where they were in the 1st half of the HS season... Are they world beaters... no... Are they playing better? Yes!
But do they have a chance to beat South...? Yes, a very, very small chance... We have all seen a game or two of hockey in our life, where a goalie gets hot, and an upset occurs... Is it going to happen for Mayo, probably not...
In '77, I would bet my life that Edina beats JM, but we all know what hapened then...
Let fans of teams have their fun, and be excited... It's the best time of year coming... High School Hockey Sections, and
our State Tourney...
Just enjoy the season...

To compare the chance of the Badgers beating Ohio State is a stretch.
I dont recall saying anything about the Mayo fans and their having fun with
rooting for their team.
As for the Edina/JM game, again imo comparing apples to oranges.
Thanks for the lecture, got a kick out of it!

No lecture, just acting monitor for the "negative police"...
And it appears from past posts I have read in this thread that you and BadgerBob82, have a recurring slant to your rants...
Called out you might say...
That's all...

Mayo simply has a better chance than anybody else due to the fact that they are a defensive team first and an offensive team second. They also have a goalie who when on can keep them close. If you looked at the big 9 stats Mayo at three quarters into the conference schedule was giving up 1.6 goals a game which is oviousley very good. This is how they stayed with Hibbing, Virginia, and St. Paul. Now that there scoring has come to frutation they have a chance (slim) to upset South if the pieces come together. Also if Mayo gets the 4th seed as they should and beats Farmington they would play South at 11:30 in the morning at the Rec Center. Earlie game means your body better be able to adapt. This again works for Mayo as they are a bunch of energizer bunnies out there. As for Mayo getting the 3rd seed there is arguement that they should be ahead of JM due to schedule strength and that Mayo finished ahead of them in the big 9. Yes JM beat Mayo twice but if a game during the Kiwanis is making that much of a difference then I would have to say playing those games in the future doesn't make sense anymore. This is all they have to go ahead of Mayo. I think Mayo should have the 3rd seed.

Mayo isnt that good. They should have either tied or lost to Faribault last night. If the refs did not screw them over, Faribault should have come out with the win. They were playing much better. Mayo should not be seeded that high in the rankings.

So I guess West and Albert Lea aren't that good either and playing tough against Virginia, Hibbing, South Saint Paul, and Lakeville North was a fluke as well?

What are you talking about ILIKECARS2?????? Mayo hasn't lost since January 13th. And in regards to last night you are right it was a terribly officiated game BUT ON BOTH ENDS!!!!! Faribault scored its first goal on a 5 minute major power play that should not have been a 5 minute major. Faribualt, due to bad officiating had numerous opportunities to win this game but Mayo's defense was simply to tough for them. Mayo is a very good hockey team that will stay with most teams throughout a game and they have proved that. Hey ILIKECARS2 mabye you should stick to talking about cars. I won't blog with you there as I don't know much about them.

Mayo got running time put on them by Farmington, JM put running time on Farmington. JM beat Mayo twice, Mayo beat JM once. Their other non conference opponent was South St. Paul, both teams lost by 1.
The Missota is better than the Big Nine
There is no way Mayo should get seeded in front of JM or Farmington and especially both.
Oh, Wisconsin was -1.5 at home against Ohio State, so enough people thought Wisconsin would win that game to make them the favorites.

How do you say at both ends? That major was called cause the player started bleeding so you are wrong there itech22. If he didn't draw blood your correct it wouldn't have been a 5 min major. You have to see that the refs in the whole game were awful but especially for fariabult. I saw the last goal and even though the ref called a penalty in the last minute of game when fbo tied the game up, faribault didn't touch the puck, the mayo player actually hit it in so therefore should have been a goal. Just my two cents on watching that game.

The major was called due to him laying on the ice for 4 minutes instead of getting up and taking it like a man.

On both ends? Maybe they missed a few calls here and there for Mayo but they were terrible for Faribault. And the five minute major was called because he was bleeding. Im sure you wouldnt have got right up after a cheap hit like that. Mayo did play good defense but they for surely dont deserve a very high ranking if Faribault was able to stick with them and should have atleast tied them to go to overtime.

Dmandad1980, haha you are a funny guy. Maybe you should review posts before you start throwing darts. Accusing me of having rants and negative slants to my posts is pure BS. Get over yourself

barring an Owatonna upset, Albert Lea will beat out Mayo for the Big 9 title, Mankato West. Neither Mayo or West have games left this season so Albert Lea must win to be the lone champion with a loss they tie with Mayo for the title.
Good luck to all the Conference teams during sections both 1A and 1AA will be interesting sections to watch

I've seen all these teams play this season and I don't think Lakeville South will have any problems making it to state. Not one team in this section comes close to the speed of South, they will skate by every team and walk through this section.
After sections, I hope Rochester will look at this and see that they need to do something drastic at the Youth level to help the public schools, instead of one "A" team and then split four ways or funnel them all to Lourdes.

I know this is kind of a stupid play in hockey, but it is effective in getting officials to give your team extra power play minutes, so it's really actually a good play.
Congrats to Albert Lea for winning the conference, and let's hope we can find a way to get two Big Nine teams to the X!
