By the sound of things Todd should not drive anything anywhere.

I attended the ER vs Andover game & while the score ended up tight, Andover controlled all but the last 4 minutes of the game, in fact I’ve rarely seen an ER team having so little puck control the past 5 years, the only kid for ER who stood out during periods 1&2 was #18, a junior D & I don’t know his name, but the ER first line was totally shutdown until the last 5 minutes of the 3rd period. #4 Wolfe & #5 Kaiser play in separate tandems, but skill wise they are right up there with Luedtke & Docter (in terms of controlling the puck & play). And not sure why, but Charlie Schoun didn’t play last 10 minutes of 3rd period & wasn’t in the handshake line, so he might have got nicked up during the game. Andover got a little sloppy at the end, but minus some strong goaltending by ER, it could have been a 6-2 game ☝️
While I agree with your take on the game some other observations. Agreed Andover controlled play, however they really didn't have many quality scoring chances from inside the house. Not minimizing the awesome game JK had in net, he played great and kept ER in the game. ER was clearly content to clog the middle and just get the puck out. Dover was the faster team and as such won the races to loose pucks which resulted in puck control and zone time. FWIW first line center was in the box for 12 minutes as a result of a misconduct. Hard to get first line going without your center. #18 is Jack Ferry, excellent skater and plays a physical game especially since he is far from the biggest D man on the ice. Admittedly I have only seen Andover in that game, but the separation between #2 Hornets and #3 Andover seems to be a sizeable gap.
The phantom call for goaltender interference must have been the karma return from the stripes for getting the benefit of the call against GR OT goal! He should get an emmy for that performance. Always perplexing to me when a ref 20 feet away doesn't make a call, but the ref at the red line 100 ft away does...It could have just as easily been a 3-3 game (pipe) as a 8-2 game, which as others have said is why you play the game. After the game was played it wasn't either, it was 3-2!
Not saying ER couldn’t of tied it in last 2 minutes, they almost did. Aside from that, this is far & away the best team Andover has ever had. And while I’ve only seen Tonka once & haven’t yet seen Edina, if you’re saying the gap between 1&2 is a sizable gap, then the same applies to DE (compared to Tonka & Edina). ER on the other hand, had a phenomenal team in 2015, a great team in 2016 & a really great team in 2017. This ER team (by contrast) is solid, but nothing close to resembling those 3 teams in my opinion ☝️
Wasn't trying to imply this Dover squad isn't a good team, they are a very good team. Again small sample size, but from what I saw of Edina at holiday classic vs Dover on one night, Edina looked to be the better team. You are absolutely correct that this years squad is not near as deep as the ER teams you mentioned. It will be a few years before ER has teams of that caliber again. Unfortunately none of those teams could get it done at Amsoil, hope the huskies can, tough place to win at. Good luck rest of the season and see you in January in your house!

I’m actually an Anoka guy, we birthed Andover back in 2002 & they have finally emerged as a NW Suburban & 7AA contender. 😉. Can speak from personal experience (2008 Anoka team went 21-7 NW Sub.champs, son a captain) that winning a section final either at the DECC or Amsoil on a Thursday school night is very difficult, seeing as DE & Cloquet are playing essentially a “home” game. Props to GR in 2006, 2007, 2016, 2017...as that’s a road game they won too...driving down primitive Hwy 2 ☝️😅

Some belated observations on East's 8-2 win over Marshall last night:

-Obviously the opponent helps, but the Hounds' offensive outburst was a positive sign for a team that has been slow to pile up the goals in the early going. Donovan had an absolutely dominant night, and he and Anderson are starting to build some chemistry and that top line is starting to look more like a top line. These things take time, and I wouldn't be surprised to see some relapses, but I think I have a sense of the grand plan for this team over the next couple months now.
-The third line, which consists entirely of kids who didn't get a ton of playing time last season, is starting to round into form. Jonathan Jones is a one-man wrecking crew, Tyler McGillivray looks good to me every time I see him, and Jacob Jeanette is starting to get his HS-level legs under him. If they continue to improve as their current rate, I'd match that group up with any third line in the state.
-East's goaltender carousel continues. Konrad Kausch got his second start of the season last night and gave up one poor goal from long range and one he couldn't do a whole lot about. He's probably the most athletic of the bunch, but is small and likes to play the puck a lot, which has its moments where it helps the team and its moments where it nearly burns them. A three-man rotation makes it hard to judge who has the upper hand, though Rabold has the best numbers of them now. I'm guessing he'll get the call tomorrow in Lakeville.

As for Marshall, there's just not a whole lot in the tank beyond one or two respectable parts on their top line. Not sure how the team I watched last night gave Minnetonka a one-goal game. East had 25 shots on goal in the 2nd period and probably missed the net with hard shots another ten times. It wasn't pretty.

Looking pretty muddy in the wonderful QRF. Using actual logic it isn't difficult to see where these teams are. St. Francis has no business being any higher than 7 at any point in the season, but yay computers. Thankfully this doesn't matter right now and I keep hearing this will sort it self out by the end of the year. Grand Rapids has been nipping at the heals of some top ranked teams in Moorhead and WBL, hopefully they can snag a W on one of these Twin Cities trips as it would be a huge boost to their QRF score. One team I suspect will be at home in the quarters and won't be making a trip to Duluth this year is Elk River. No disrespect to them, but I just don't trust that squad this year. Forest Lake has enough fire power on their top line they could pull off an upset in a 3/6 type game. I don't think they'd have enough to beat East or Andover though. If East has to play Cloquet in the semi-finals, I could see both East and Andover not making it to the final. East gets anyone but CEC they are a lock to be in the section final IMO.

Well, though I don't trust Elk River in general come sections. Andover is their rival and the Elks played em close. Rapids could absolutely compete in that game too provided they keep improving. I've seen enough HS hockey in the last 30 years to know it's not unthinkable. This year alone we've seen Champlin Park beat East and Eveleth beat Chaska. Should anything be a surprise anymore?

I realize anything can happen DJ 😉 This Andover team is REALLY GOOD though DJ... I hate to admit it... but they’re better than Anoka was in 2008 ☺️ I do like GR for next year, Brett Larson got himself a good one in Jack Peart! And ER is considerably down (this year) from the last 5 years or so ☝️

Current QRF
1 No. 3 Andover (89.8) 2-0-0 9-0-1
2 No. 6 Duluth East (80.6) 2-1-0 7-2-1
3 No. 33 Elk River/Zimmerman (48.2) 2-2-0 5-7-0
4 No. 42 C-E-C (42.7) 1-1-0 4-8-0
5 No. 44 Forest Lake (41.8) 0-2-0 3-6-0
6 No. 45 St. Francis (40.7) 1-0-0 5-6-0
7 No. 46 Grand Rapids (39.7) 1-1-0 4-9-0
8 No. 50 Duluth Marshall (38.2) 1-1-0 3-7-1
9 No. 69 Cambridge-Isanti (11.2) 0-2-0 2-7-0

By year end CEC will catch Elk or at least be close enough for the tie-breaker to kick in.
St Francis will drop to 8
Grand Rapids and Forest Lake will be close but Rapids gets the tie breaker.

So it should go
1 Andover
2 Duluth East
3 CEC
4 Elk River/Zimmerman
5 Grand Rapids
6 Forest Lake
7 St Francis
8 Duluth Marshall
9 Cambridge-Isanti

If Rapids can show more than they have, they may bump to #4, but they would need 2 if not 4 quality wins and looking at their remaining schedule I see only 3 or 4 more wins.

In play-offs I don't see CEC, ERiver, Rapids or Forest Lake (depending on which teams actually fill that 4/5 spot) beating Andover.
One of them could beat DEAST.
So its Andover in the finals.
Andover winning with a possibility of DEAST getting things together and beating them.
So 75% chance its Andover
20% DEAST
and 5% its CEC
