ER, you must be sitting on the third base line.
They should have chiropracters on duty to do adjustments for the fans in between innings.
It is bad and just about anything we build will be better if any thought is put into it. It sounds like they want it to be state of the art.
Hopefully they will follow the example set by St Paul when they built the Xcel.

How do you think this weather would affect the attendance at the new OPEN roof stadium in 2010? It is only going to be 26 to 29 degrees for tonights game if the marshmallow came off.
I can see football going with an open roof, but in baseball you need the flexibility wouldn’t you say?
If the land owners weren’t screwing the TWINS over on the land, I bet they could consider diverting some $ to an enclosed roof?

Ideally, yes. But if nobody is going to foot the bill for the retractable roof, is it going to hurt attendance having to sit outside? After 28 years in the inflatable muffin, not a chance. "Govs93 Park at Johnson Yards" (we'll use that as a temporary name until they officially name it... it'll probably end up being something close to that anyway!

) will be standing room only through all of 2010 & probably 2011 if not longer.

They would not play today nor yesterday. It would be postponed but they arent going to schedule them to open the season at home.
Govs, you think they will sell out every game the first 2 years? I dont think they will play night games in April.

I'm watching the Cleveland/Chicago game, and it's snowing horizontally... baseball can be played in the cold!

Baseball is not intended to be played outside in the cold.
They are the "boys of summer" , not the eskimos of April.
I am a big fan. But I will
Wait Until Lent is long over before I go to the park outside.

I think it's time the ballclub hurry up and swing a deal to get JD Durbin back. With numbers like he put up today against the Rockies, he'd be a wonderful addition to the 'pen:
IP H R ER K SO ERA
2/3 7 7 7 1 1 94.50

It looks like Torii Hunter will follow Ken Griffey, Jr's lead and wear #42 against the Devil Rays on
April 15 - Jackie Robinson Day.
I think it's cool that Selig is allowing teams to wear 42 for that one day. He probably didn't have to it.

The entire Dodgers team will where #42 on that day.
The Dodgers are copying a ploy that our floor hockey team had back in college to mask our star players by having everyone where #4.

I feel bad for the stadium announcer.
"Now batting, the 1st baseman, number
42, Nomar Garciaparra"
"Now batting, the 2nd baseman, number
42, Jeff Kent"
"Now batting, the centerfielder, number
42, Juan Pierre"
Poor guy.

As long as it's dry and it's early fans will come to the games. Maybe they'll just have to play more afternoon games and more road games to start the season though. The White Sox put 26,336 into Comisky yesterday while the Twins had 27,539, neither place was above freezing with the windchill although it was 70 in the Dome.

Is that actual attendance or paid?

26,000 Paid
about 12,000 in the house at the beginning
about 900 by the 8th inning.
Yesterday's game would have never been played but the weather isn't supposed to change until Sunday and they can't cancel 4 straight games.

Baseball needs to rethink when they play the game.
Its too darn early to start and its too late to still be playing during the playoffs from a weather stand point.

I've always been a fan of the Double Header, even the day night combo isn't too bad an idea, I made a day of it once in Boston. It's not like baseball is so physically taxing that it can't be done, heck the Gophers play 3 games a day some times. If you cut the schedule back to 154 games and worked in 10 DH's a season you still wouldn't lose your off days and could shorten the season by nearly a month.
I don't think the owners care how many people are actually in the seats, they're happy as long as tickets are sold ~ ask Ziggy Wilf

Andrew Jackson Gammons is now one of our readers. He was echoing PB this morning and he said MLB should shorten the season to 150 games due to the poor weather at the bookends of the season.
Peter Gammons, the newest Minnhock reader and dare I say... poster?

I agree goldy.
IS, I dont know about you but I am tired of column writers and commentators coming on Minnhock and ripping off our ideas and then using them on air or in ink.
The expanded playoffs is a good idea. I think it creates a lot of interest.
I am sure it has created a lot of revenue for baseball. Use that revenue to offset the decrease in revenue that 10 fewer games would result in.
Then add 6 double headers, only one a month, to each teams schedule.
You could right there make up for the added 2 weeks of playoffs and then some.
This is an unusually cold spring but it seems like we get a lot "unusual " weather every year.
