Observer:
From the MN Hockey site regarding the festival:
Player Evaluation: A team of knowledgeable coaches and scouts will evaluate all participants, consult with team coaches and select the top 102 players for participation in the Minnesota Hockey Summer Advanced 15 Festival. Alternates will also be chosen and placed if there are participant turndowns.
I direct you to the line, "consult with team coaches and select the top 102 players for participation". Yes, they evaluate all of the participants. But, then they consult with team coaches. I would believe that a team coach could trump a pick by saying that they felt that a player was clearly superior to the competition.

tenoverpar, I personally have only seen him play once and that was the day he broke his collarbone, that I know of anyway...I probably saw him play or coached a team against his over the last few years but didn't know it. I also know that he played for Benilde varsity. So my personal knowledge of him is lacking. Reputation says that he's pretty good.
From the one time I saw him and knew who I was watching. I would say he was very good. But his partner in that game, Alec Anderson, was also very good and Alec didn't make the cut.
Though, I would like to add that I never questioned whether or not he was good enough to make the top 102. The process is what I was calling attention to. The participants are told that the group that is in New Hope on that particular weekend is the group that is being evaluated for the next step in the process. These types of things can lead to the feeling that there are politics at play etc etc.

its hockey politics are always at play. if its kept to a minimum is the best you can ask for.

there may be politics at play in the select process.
but after our two years of experience with selects I have to give them credit.
Its a much better system or process than what goes on in our local association

I have to agree with the others. If this was "politics", it was pretty minimal. The coaches are part of the eval. process and the kids who were at New Hope WERE evaluated and considered. So was this kid and, by all accounts, deserves to be on the list.

I count 15 kids from D8 making it. Nice job selecting that team. I thought some one said they missed on some kids? couldnt have been that bad.

Not that surprising. EP just didn't have the level of players they have had in previous years. Besides alomost all of Ep's Bantam A was 1st years

good luck to the 102 94s at St. Cloud this weekend. What a great opportunity to combine hockey with a growth opportunity and hanging with friends.

any reports on any stands out?
I heard zach parise talked to the players last night. Sounds like a great experience for the young men who made it to St Cloud.

any other standouts? Also, have some kids already been picked or was a "clean slate" started when they got there? Obviously all these boys are good, but are there any unknown standouts?

The people running and doing the judging do not care who makes it to the next level. If the players do well they are rewarded. If a player feels he is good and does not do well and still expects to make it,he will be disappointed.

michealson looked good and what i really liked about him as a player is he passed the puck. the kid has great vision. for goalie number 1 on the white team played outstanding i think he was from mpls park. for d i really liked pilot number 2 on the white team played great and halverson from wayzata. i dont know why but defense is a hard position for me to judge when it comes down to all these good players. some other forwards i thought played good were lovik, besse, vesel, roo, and lavalle he looked pretty strong. Lawdermilt and janze work hard and made good things happen. almost all the players were solid i seen a few that were out of place. befor anyone gets upset this is who i happend to notice their was other kids im sure that were having a great weekend i cant claim to be everywhere or see everything. i also cant judge players perfectly and it wasnt my job to do so. just thought i would let some of you know who may not have had the chance to watch on some of my opinions.

He was originally on the Gray team I believe, but whether due to time conflict or injury or whatever he isn't in St Cloud.
