I'd rather see West, Litchfield, Little Falls, Park Rapids, Crookston, etc. than the sandbaggers from STA, Blake, DM, and Warroad.
I do agree bout Marshal getting to play single A. Its ridiculous but we won't get into that now.  Lets stay on topic everyone

"Good luck at the Hooch where you belong"

Well, we know the referees sure think so...

Two very good skating teams. Shots didn't reflect the tempo at all. MW carried at least as much action as DM and I wish I could see them play again.

Powerplays
Mankato West - 0-3
D. Marshall - 2-5
All three goals were PP (ie. West 1 for 3)

Like against Lourdes, many of Duluth's shots came from outside, so the shot count does not tell the game story by any means. West outchanced Duluth, especially in the first. Execution was not there today, however.

Overall, an excellent game. If nothing else, some of the cynics on this forum may be silenced a bit, as Mankato West showed that they are the real deal and deserved to be at State. They are looking forward to seeing Little Falls in the consolation. It ought to be a good one (two best records in single A in the state!).

The Mankato West goal was not a power play goal. It was scored one second after the power play expired.

The game was close but can you call it a good game for West if they lost a game they should have won? I'm just asking, because if they had put those chances that Marshall just handed them in the first period away, they win.

Like hockeypurist said, Marshall seemed content to fire soft shots from the outside with no traffic in front, and nobody taking it to the net like Lourdes. It seemed to me that Marshall was sluggish and almost uninterested. I talked to a Marshall father and he said they've playing like that for a month now.

West. Well they didn't convert the chances they had. It was odd to see Litchfield with over 200 high school points mishandle Lievermann's pass on the 2-on-1, then hit the side of the net on that bad rebound. I've seen them convert that 2-on-1 probably 15 times this year, and in the tourney they misfire. Lievermann had the corner in the second period and put the shot about two feet over the net. It happens. Also, they had a 5-on-3 for 1:20-something in the third and couldn't score. What do you say? Lost opportunties and a disappointing loss. It's hockey.

Why should Marshall play AA, yeah they are from a city of 100,000. But they arent the only high school. East, Denfeld, Central, Harbor City, Lakeview Christian Academy, and other nearby schools like Proctor. And Marshall has roughly 300 students. thats about 150 boys and only about 32 of them play hockey, some of them being complete . just because they are good now doesnt mean they will be forever.

While I agree that they shouldn't opt up now, it wouldn't be a bad move down the raod for the program in the future.

And BTW - Harbor City has no hockey team and neither does LCA. When I was going to school in the area, these two schools didn't even exist and I have no idea what their enrollment or their actual purpose is.

But to add to your own argument, you're correct. Two of Duluth Marshall's closest rivals in single A in the area are Proctor and Hermantown and neither of them are opting up to AA, even though Hermantown is a defending State Champ and has been regarded as a seasonal perenial power in the area, whereas Proctor has had a declining few years in their program.

Duluth Denfeld was last AA in 1996, whereafter they went single A. Duluth East could easily do the same, but they have better numbers in their program consistently. If Marshall could sustain their program, it would be worth the look into.

I understand the AA study/model was recently looked into and was very questionable, as to sustainability. 9-12 classes have roughly 60 students per class or so I understand. The 300 students as mentioned above must be 5-12 grades. Marshall rarely is able to cut any hockey players because of the low numbers. The JV team this year was extremely young and low in numbers too. Enrollment is a unknown from year to year and raising tution may have an effect.

I think that 300 number is the enrollment for 9-12. I didn't think they could count the 5-12 as total enrollment. Or am I wrong?

No you are not wrong - 9 to 12 only.
