Definitely agree - the AV player Michaelson is a really strong player with great all around game skills. Looks like the real deal - playing well with good team skills. Good luck to all the kids.

He needs to learn how to score and make plays. Right now he can skate faster than anyone and has a quick release. Does not use his teammates very well. Lots of upside though.

Jonah Johnson (Hill-Murray J.V.)

It is interesting.

But, having watched many of the games, it was apparent to me that there just weren't many stand-outs there who came from up north.

If outstate players are under-represented or if people believe there is some big conspiracy to keep them out, whatever caused it took place before this past week in St. Cloud.

There will always be the bubble kids you wonder about, but the choices the evaluators made look pretty solid to me. (and no, my kid is not going to NY).

O'Borsky is from Red Wing. That is not a metro city.
Torrel is from Monticello. That's on the edge of the metro.

Eric Brenk? I liked him in the spring tournament in New Hope.

Excuse the generalization. I guess what I should have said is that it appears that almost every player is from a metro based District playing primarily against metro based competition. 8 and 10 are considered primarily metro Districts.

Keep hunting and fishing up north there watchdog.

For the most of you who don't really know who the bubble kid his he is from no name city Little Falls. A first year Bantam Ben Newman who by the way let the festival with points 11 or 12 is what I heard. The kid I heard was real solid played great positioning was not real big but physical. Keep your eye out for this one he is the real thing also. I seen him play at the Region peewee a tournament in Brainerd in 08 and I was inpressed then and they where playing Roseau.

No conditioningsucks I'm not his daddy or him himself. I will admit I played hockey in Little Falls and tend to follow there program and Brainerd. I reside in Brainerd, MN and have a nephew that plays also District 15 hockey in Brainerd. In 2008 Brainerd hosted the Region tournament and went with my nephew to watch a couple of the games and happen to notice him. Well guess what? My newphew informed me of this a couple of days ago that someone from District 15 made the national festival and it was Ben Newman. So here is my guess Mr conditioning sucks. You tried out yourself could not make the 1st cut because you want to sit on the couch and eat twinkies and not condition. I just so happen am pleased to see that there is real talant in our District. I'm sure when Ben Reads your reply to Hockey Hawk he will appreciate the Congrats!!

I know that there are a lot of naysayers to Fire hockey, but it should be noted that 6 of the kids from the 1994 Fire Hockey club made the national team and will be heading to New York in July. They are:

Anders Franke
Andy Herlofsky
Jake Horton
Jordan Jancze
Jonah Johnson
Zach Stepan

I bet if you asked any one of these kids about their experience with Fire Hockey, you'd hear nothing but positive remarks and, in addition, would contribute their success to this program and their coach.

Just thought it was worth pointing out.

don't pat yourself on the back too hard those kids benefited greatly from their most recent programs. I would state that Shattuck development and High School competition did more to prep these kids for Advanced 15 program than Fire hockey.
