I got an error message. Oh well.
Not sure if that was directed at me, Pete

, though I'm not down on Andover at all. I'd put them somewhere in a zone between "serious contender" and "just an upset threat." We'll learn a lot about them very soon. I am holding the line on my list of likely Mr. Hockey finalists, though.

Don't think this guy's opinion is any better or more significant than anyone on this forum. There are a lot very knowledgeable people on this forum.

Lee comparing him to Howie Hanson is like comparing a 4th liner on the Cambridge JV to Sidney Crosby.

Ive met the guy and he is great but that seems a little harsh. Most people on here know plenty to keep up with Pete.

I keep telling you, SCREEN potential board members.
Rather have packer boy back, at least there was a bit of style.

Well, that was a very immature thing to say. Anyway, as far as Andover goes, I'll believe it when I see it. No doubt Tomberlin is talented, but as a team, Andover's best wins are against only Centennial and MG (both one goal wins). I guess they've put up a lot of points against poor NWSC opponents...(besides a baffling loss to Robb. Armstrong). They may be the third or fourth best team in 7AA, but I think East and ER beat them 9 times out of 10.

There was a little style in my last root canal, too.

Think about this though, Elk River only beat Andover 7-6. Yes, they had the Armstrong game, just the same Rapids had the East game, and East had their games vs. Cambridge and Apple Valley. Another thing, "only" Maple Grove. MG did just tie East recently. This idea that East and Elk River are miles ahead of a team like Andover just doesn't have any basis. Slightly ahead, yeah, I think that's accurate. I know East and ER are battling for the 1 seed and a possible semi meeting with Andover. I'll quote the bartender guy on the movie "Out Cold", "Be careful what you wish for!!!"

Yes, ER and East have had their down games against mediocre teams, but even those were still wins between both squads. These games were why I said they win "9 times out of 10".
I think Andover is talented and has the framework to be a contender. Problem is, they haven't proven it by beating a top 10 team yet and they've had quite a few chances (Du East, Blaine, ER, Eastview). Their offense put up most of their points against weak teams like NWSC bottom feeders (Coon Rapids, Osseo, Robbinsdale) and other weak opponents like Hopkins, Lakeville South, Mounds View.
Until Andover can knock out a contender, I can't see any sign of them getting to state. Yes, Andover came within 1 during their first matchup with Elk River, but they also got 6 power plays in that game.
If they can sweep Cent and MG and/or beat Blaine or ER in the next few weeks, opinions may change.

The DJ should be working for the Obama Administration spinning the merits of Obamacare! Elk River and East are the top dogs in 7AA everyone knows that. The Rapids team is just not deep enough in upper class kids to get past those two teams. Cloquet will pose a quarterfinal challenge. Don't book your tickets just yet DJ.

I agree with you that Forest Lake should beat Andover in the quarterfinals if they play. However, it's certainly not a sure thing just because they beat Andover earlier in the year. I would expect it to be a very competitive game and I wouldn't be surprised if Andover upsets Forest Lake. I just don't see Andover getting 3 upsets or Forest Lake getting 2 upsets. So, the section will probably go to either Elk River, Duluth East, or Grand Rapids.

Northwoods, Rapids already beat Elk River, so been there done that. Also, GR was without Quinn Mischke in that game (like most games) and Elk River had Andrew Zerban. Cloquet is a team I have great respect for and you aren't informing me of anything (which you are not capable of doing anyways). The thing I would dislike most about Rapids playing Cloquet is that those are my two favorite teams in 7AA and I enjoy seeing them both at the semi-finals. No matter what every team is going to be in for a fight by the semi-finals and the 3/6 4/5 games will be dog fights no matter how you slice it. I think people are providing a lot of bulletin board material for Rapids and Andover.

This wouldn't surprise me either. FL/Andover should be a very entertaining game to watch and I hope there is video streaming for this one. Forest Lake should have the advantage of being on home ice. How are the players for Forest Lake doing that missed the East game to injury? I hope they get better in time for the playoffs.

People really need to stop using the excuse that GR beat Elk River. Does anyone seriously think Rapids has a better team then Elk River?
Sure it still counts, but people don't realize that the game was the last day in the holiday tourney. Elk River had two tough physical games before it, and so did GR. Both teams were exhausted, and it doesn't show how good their teams actually are.
If Elk River actually played Elk River in a normal game, where they had equal time to prepare, Elk river would win 9 times out of 10.
You have to take those holiday tourney games with a grain of salt when doing seedings/rankings.

Not sure how ER beats ER 9 out of 10. And I'm not talking about seedings. Rapids seems to have a system that works well against Elk River, winning the last 3 meetings. Also, that's making a ton of excuses for Elk River. They are a solid club, but no one team in the state is vastly superior to another. Every team has their strengths and weaknesses. Gonna be interesting to see which teams in this section are playing well going into the playoffs.

Only so many ways to say the same thing over and over, with so many games ppd some teams may lose their momentum as we near the sections.

They are HS kids and the teams with some talent can upset anyone on a given night. The long shot is Andover and why not have a Cinderella team make it to the X. The biggest question is goaltender. The team (ER, GR, DE or And) with the best tender wins.
