New Ulm 6, Waseca 2
Waseca took a 2-0 lead after one, but couldn't keep up the energy and New Ulm took over and closed it out.

AL-7 East-0
AL played a pretty good game somewhat a scramble in their own end but picked it up as the game went a long. TONS of questionable calls both ways but there was a few more iffy ones against AL. But they would play through the penalties and scored a shorthanded goal. They played a pretty good game tho

That's two 10-1 losses in a row for the Packers. What is going on with Luverne? Those guys are getting better all the time.

How come after every AL game it is said that there were TONS of questionable calls against AL. Questionable in whose mind. Have they not figured out the new standard of play halfway through the season. I have watched many games this year and I feel that the officials have really done a pretty good job so far. Those teams that do not adapt are going to find themselves shorthanded alot more this year.

I think AL deserved the penalties they got but i think east should have gotten a few more then they did. AL was a faster team so east had a good amount of hooks and trips and there were some that effected the play a good deal but the arms stayed down. Im not complaining I am just stating an observation.

ummmmmmm.............. when mark walton from AL lays number 11 out from east perfectly clean hit and gets a penalty for roughing because the kid tied his legs around walton and walton just stood there and he got a penalty that is bad walton did not touch the kid except for when he dropped him on his BACK!
maybe if you were at the game you would know dont just go by other refs because they do call the game differently

No need to discuss the Albert Lea/East game anymore......drop it.
How about the West/Albert Lea game. Huge game for seeding purpose as the number 1 seed is probably on the line. I realize that even if West loses, they still could get the top spot, but this is a must win for Albert Lea.
If A.L. sticks with there rotation of goalies, Waalkens in net.
Predictions for Saturday?

I think it will be hard to predict the winner. Albert Lea has the most to lose though because another loss to West and they have no chance for the #1 seed. On the other hand, the old proverbial saying that it is hard to beat a good team three times in a year does not bode well for West if they win tomorrow. I guess I am expecting another hard fought clean game like was played in the first meeting. I hope that the refs let them play like they did in Kato in the first meeting where there was only 3-4 penalties total between the two teams The West PP is clicking right now, now sure how AL is doing in that dept.
Whatever happens happens but I do know one thing and that is both teams respect the heck out of each other.
Prediction 3-3.
Hows that for a cop out

Someone asked about why AL is always questioning the reffing. Probably because the reffing in southern Minnesota is always questionable. I've seen some strange calls over the years, especially in Mankato.

Hockeydad, and I am guessing the reffing in New Prague is spot on every night.

AL 5 west 1
AL came to play and no dumb penalties. West was down and started playing cheap by running the goalie at the blue line total moron....good game tho...
hockeydad good call on southern minnesota reffing well said.

Thanks for the scores on the AL/West game.
Are Walton and Ahrendt doing the bulk of the work (offensively) for AL?
Goaltending must be solid?
AL tough to beat in AL. Will be a close race to the finish as far as seedings go.

As long as AL wins the games it should the rest f the season, I see them being #1.
West kind of lost it when the coach was barking at the ref. It just seemed like everything was out of whack. West could've had 2 "checking the goalie" penalties. The last one was terrible tho. They were much better in the 1st meeting.
Arendt & Walton

Although Arendt and Walton are both very good hockey players in my eyes, I think ALs lines are finally starting to click, staying away from stupid penalties and working together. Walton played an outstanding game today as well.

Section is AL's to lose. AL looked like a well-coached, disciplined state-tournament quality team and, well, West did not.
From the West coaches to their JV team in the stands to their fans, West showed absolutely zero class. Sorry, West fans. I'm an independent observer; my team's been on the receiving end of many AL butt-kickings in the past few years. But the better team on all accounts Saturday was AL.
AL showed tremendous restraint when West started taking cheap shots late in the game. Even though the shots were 33-31 for West, the game was never in doubt. Casanova was solid and calm, Trembley was, well, not. I don't think he made a clean save the entire game. Trembley lost his cool early and tripped Walton in the first period. Walton got the last laugh by making him look really bad on the fourth goal, then scored again to make 5-1.
AL took advantage of their chances, West couldn't hit the net on theirs. West's powerplay was slowmotion.
Despite what some West fans apparently thought, the refs did not lose this game for West. It was not close.

well said goaler--- AL played much better as a whole team compared to the first meeting between the two teams! If AL can play like this the rest of the season they should get the first seed and have a great shot for the excel come march
AL was a disciplined team tonight which is a lot more than i can say for west who's coach told the ref to tell AL goalie that they were going to plow him! Which they did twice that is a ton of class shown. The second time he plowed casanova he fell to the ice harder than casanova did and he leaped up in the air three feet at full speed(PANZY). Also how they were trying to fight and take runs at AL at the end of the game.
good call on walton getting the last laugh on west tender he had 2 sick goals especially that break top shelf, goalie had no clue.
a2anda10- walton and arendt are not putting up all the points which they both are putting up there fair share of points but the whole team is putting up points as of lately.

Lunchlady did Trembley get run into on that third goal in the first period?
I was in that end, but I was following the puck. I saw him going down but I thought he was out of position and diving for the puck. What did you see? The ref was right on the spot and pointing goal immediately. I know Trembley got all bent out of shape about it.
Is that why West was running into Casanova? Casanova was very cool and did not react.
West lost its composure in that first period, but they were still in the game. The score was only 3-1 after two and the shots were only 24-18 for AL. In the third they made two horrible mistakes and Walton made them pay.
AL did not play a perfect game by any measure. They were careless with the puck in their own zone. AL's strength is the forecheck. Their forwards make it awfully tough to break out on them, which masks their weakness on the backline. They're not as good as two years ago. No Trail, no Lair, no McKinney. But they're the best I've seen in Section 1A this year.

Big crowd in AL yesterday?

goaler,
it looked like the traffic in front of the net knocked Trembley over. It would be very hard to call that goal off.
I can't believe that a coach would send a kid after the other goalie, twice. West is going to have to keep their heads straight if they want to do anything in sections.
I think AL set the bar pretty high yesterday. They sent a message to the rest of the section that told them that you have to go through AL to get to St. Paul.

i am not sure what happened to trembley but by my view the puck was in the net then he dove and his helmet came off immediatley after the goal. it did look like he dove but i am not sure.....
then it didnt help west at all when trembley would yell at the ref everytime the refs went near him and trembley would shoot the puck back down to the otherside on an icing when the ref was skating down to pick it up.
a2anda10- crowd was pretty small crowd but alrite for a weekend game i guess really quite crowd tho would not chant back with the west fans

Trembley looked very rattled to me. I thought he was out of position on all three goals in the first period, and he seemed to be fighting the puck the entire game.
He didn't seem comfortable, losing his temper, tripping Walton and shooting the pucks away from the refs. Casanova, on the other hand, was the opposite. He got creamed a couple of times and it didn't seem to faze him. AL's goaltending is in pretty good shape coming down the stretch.
Too bad New Ulm and West don't play. New Ulm is coming together and I like their goaler. Marshall might be a factor if their goaling gets better. Waseca is better than most people think, but they really need to tighten it up and play both ends of the ice.
So it looks like AL to me, unless something weird happens in Sections.
