South is such a strong team this year, and showed it in the 3rd period...

Mayo played very good last night for 2 periods, Mayo hit post early in 2nd when score was 1-0, and with 3 minutes to go last night in the 2nd, shots were fairly close at 15-12 (South), but then South cranked it up and had the last 7 shots of the period and scored a killer with 1 minute to go in the 2nd, to make it 2-0...

South then dominated the 3rd, and won 5-0... Nice skating team, and strong on O & D...

Congrats to Mayo on another good season, very proud of the young ladies :!:

We were outshot 33-17 and still won. Amazing. Congrats to my HM team. I sure wish they didn't play at the exact same time as Irondale Friday. Joe, you should pm me your cell and we can text each other updates from the two games. I sure wish I could see them play Roseville. I am very worried it will be a blow out, but you never know...
You may well be right. HM does not play well against 2 line teams (eventually the mismatches catch up to you).

This is an article that was published last week. I think the problem most people have with EP is the utter arrogance of EP and their fan base. Yes they have always had good teams and yes they played well against Chaska last night....But this EP Nation crap has got to stop....and so do the excuses! I guess they should have been concerned with the 3,4,and 5 seeds!

Eagles are 2AA's No. 2 seed

As expected, the Eden Prairie High School girls hockey team was awarded the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Section 2AA Tournament. Edina received the top seed.

The unexpected is who was seeded three, four and five.

"I guess it's in the eye of beholder," said Eden Prairie Head Coach Tim Morris.

Chaska (10-15) received the No. 3 seed; Prior Lake (14-11) the No. 4; Shakopee (15-8-2) the No. 5. Shakopee defeated Chaska once, Prior Lake twice.

"If we generate some offense and do the job defensively, Edina is a team we can beat," adds Morris. "We'll have to be darn near flawless, but they're beatable."

Translation: Eden Prairie isn't too concerned about the Nos. 3, 4 and 5 seeds.

"We're where I thought we'd be at this time of the year," adds Morris.

Saturday, the Eagles ended their regular season with a 7-0 victory over Apple Valley.

"It's the first time in a long time that we've played an entire game without any letdowns,' said Morris. "We didn't make some of the little mistakes we've made in the past, the kinds of mistakes that cost us goals. And the goals we did score were nice goals off quality shots."

So, if you're only as good as the last game you've played, Eden Prairie appears ready to make a run.

"If everyone plays like we're capable of playing," he said, "we should fare very well."

Should be a good showdown 2 good teams fighting for 1 spot!

Wouldn't it be nice if there were two from each section that could go to state.

Why not make them all champions, too? What would be the point of having 2 teams from each section go to state? It would only diminish what it means to get to state.

only because there is that rare chance that two teams from the same section could conceivably be the # 1 and #2 team in the state and wouldn’t that be awesome to see them at the big dance playing rather than at a district playoff.

No, just the opposite. That's why the Section finals (and in the case of Section 4AA, the semifinals) are so great. Now is when all the rivalries are played out: Blake-Breck, Minnetonka-Hopkins, Warroad-Roseau (formerly), Roseville-Stillwater, HM-WBL, Irondale-Moundsview, Edina-EP, GRG-CEC, etc. 4AA got really lucky this year to have two great rivalries in the semis, and even the Section Final doesn't feel as important now. The state tournament is something else altogether.

Your reference to districts must mean you're confusing hockey with basketball, in which just about anyone who wants gets to go to the state tournament.

Although it would make it a lot more interesting to have the top eight teams compete at the State Tournament, Bensonmum is right… the process of declaring who is the best team has already started with the Section play. Yes there will be some mismatch games…early…but in the end you will have your Champ.

WOW. I thought Elk River was money there. I guess all the blustering around here about the Northwest Suburban was just that. Only Centennial left with a chance at anything. I'm always happy to see the Northern teams win the northern sections. Elk River doesn't qualify...

Irondale Wins 4-3 in O.T.

Megan Lorence had 2 goals in the first 5 minutes of the game to give Irondale a quick 2-0 lead. The period finished that way with shots in favor of the Knights 10-2. Centennial came out much better in the second and finally cashed in on a goal 6 minutes in but Irondale responded within 20 seconds or so to go up 3-1. Centennial had a really pretty goal late in the second to make it 3-2. Looked like that would be the final score as Centennial dominated much of the 3rd period but couldn't score. But with the goalie pulled and scrambles all over the place, Centennial scored one a high slapshot from the point with 56 seconds left. Irondale got a 2-1 not long after and Centennial took a late penalty. The Cougars were able to kill off the penalty and looked like they were in good shape a minute and a half into overtime. Then a run of the mill clearing pass up one corner of the boards took a funny bounce off a crack and headed right out in front of the net. That gave Ironale a mini 2-1, and the first girl shot and it was saved but the second girl hammered it home. Didn't get the name as I was trying to read Joe's responses on my HM teams demise.

Last score he sent me was 4-2 Roseville with 12 minutes left in the 3rd.

Holy Cow Batman! Tonka goes DOWN.

I'd say if Roseville wins tonight they are the heavy favorite. The rest of the teams will be a real crapshoot.

Star and Sickle says 4-2 Roseville win. Too bad, I wanted to see my HM team finally make it. I believe this was there first section final, so maybe next year will finally be the year.

Edina 5-0 over Chaska.

I still think it is Roseville's tourney to lose.
