I will see if I can track you down a copy. You will be disappointed though...the buzzer went off when the puck was just inside the hash marks. Its on video....I will contact you in the next several days if I can get my hand on a copy for you.

In my 40 years of hockey, that was the most bizarre finish ever! I was the scorekeeper. The referee told me that the game doesn't end until the buzzer FINISHES going off! The referee admitted that the buzzer had sounded before the puck went in, but that it is when it finishes sounding is when the game is over.

I am one of the most supportive of those who wear the stripes, but can anyone out there tell me when the rules changed to "the game does not end when the buzzer goes off, but when the buzzer stops sounding." (in this case the buzzer sounded for approximately five-seven seconds). Outside of that, the refs called a good game.

Final shots were 43 to 11. Your team showed up and hustled all night long.

Never heard that one before. Checked the USA Hockey rulebook and the MN Hockey rulebook. Neither mention the end of a game. D6 rulebook is not specific as to the clock or the buzzer being the end.

Stories like this out of D1 make me appreciate the lunacy of D6. Best I ever knew, the game ended when the clock showed 0:00 and that is when the buzzer started. Period lengths are not 14:03 or 14:00 + the buzzer length. Sounds like a terrible explanation and a terrible decision.

Give Richfield the win and file this one under the folder for "do you remember when . . ." and always talk about how someone got screwed, but never suggest changing the outcome. And talk to the Dir. of D1 about the education of the officials.

Eagle,

Overall, the D1 officials have been good this year. They seem to have a good understanding of the the new standards of play and haven't missed much. I think heavy enforcement of the standards last year has cleaned up a lot of the play this year. Last year they were a little rough....but I believe that was more of the change in enforcement than anything else.

As I say, I am one of the biggest fans of officials. As a 12 year old kid I refereed, got chased out of Braemar by an irate dad over a call in a house league game and never reffed a game after that. I can't stand the parents that come to the game and yell at the officials from the time the puck drops until the end of the game. Plus, without them our kids can't play!

i have a question ...

in a bantam game i volunteered to run the score box for this year,
the game was tied 2-2 - and maybe 40 seconds left in the game.
the one team got a turnover at center ice and had a 2-0 break,
except that the other team had a defensemen and the goalie
laying down in the net from a collision.
they were standing up and both were in the net, and the defensemen
had the goalie stick.
the other team shot the puck in from about 20 feet away and started to
celebrate, but the refs blew the whistle , came over and said NO GOAL,
because the non goalie player was attempting to play the puck with the goalie stick. Face Off at center ice ? No Penalty ?
that team then scored "their" game winner with 7 seconds on the clock..

it was unreal...

i thought - on our team - we could put a defensemen back with the goalie
at all times - and if anyone gets close - defensemen gets the goalie stick
and thus a face off at center ice will be the result.

we will give up 0 goals for the whole year.

undefeated.....

I just didn't know what to think ?

I dont know about the whole no penalty / center ice face off catastrophe :D but I do know that it is illegal for a player to play with a goalie stick. As a ref for youth hockey, I would call it a delay of game and throw the d man in the box.

Hey KOHO - in case you missed it - when our player tried to check your player near the blue line - your player left his feet ( ah that's not allowed )
and his knee ended up in our players groin. So ending up on
his butt was hardly a surprise. Sounds like you think your kids don't hold
and shove sticks in opponents? I think all Bantam teams have their
share of "rough" play. I think they teach the kids to check ?

I think our record is an indication of having 44 kids total for bantam's
(36 were 1st year Bantam's - 7 of those 8 are on the Bantam A)
and someone thinking we could field an A and B1 team from that ?
To make our C team - we borrowed 6 players from Eastview.

So enjoy your numbers and success - someday maybe even Minnetonka will have but a small enrollment...( maybe not since you have alot more
land mass ). I thought we would have been a B2 team - and done very
well - but in the long run - it certainly has made most of the players
better to play against better players. I look forward to next year - when
almost surely all but 1 or 2 will be 2nd year players.

good luck to your team - not sure you need that - I think you guys
should really walk thru the district playoffs except if it's EP red,
and actually burnsville looks good too.....

KOHO wrote:I didn't say you were a "goon team" what I said is "It appears to me that some of your players are taking on the personality of your coach". I know nothing about your team or your coach but if last night was any indication of how you played all year then it explains your record. If last night was an exception to how you normally play then I appologize.

Jfyi, I think what happened is when your #17 checked the kid in the middle of the ice and ended up on his butt and hurt he was ticked off that it happened. Then later in the game #17 was on top of our kid, play was in your zone, and was holding him down jamming his stick into his throat out of anger (as the ref skated right by). I am sure he is a nice kid but you ask him and I am sure he will tell you.

Good day to you, and hope you make it to playoffs.

What you left out of your story was the goon (and he has been a goon since squirts) on the black team started it by checking a player into the box after the final buzzer. We couldn't be happier that our player stepped up to protect one of his own.

Not a great weekend for the Red team:
DE Red 1
St. Thomas Academy 4 (had more than one player that should be on an A team somewhere)

DE Red 0
DE Black 5
(hey at least we play the third line more than one minute per period)

DE Red 6
North Shore 0

okay dlh st thomas is a decent team but seriously look where they are placed in their district. Highland is above them, MPLS Park is above them, Richfield is above them. And the "had more than one player that should be on an A team somewhere" is a false statement in my eyes...but thats just me. And i thought duluth red and black were in Mora at a tourney...

Noncons- I wasn't "dissing" your entire team. And, when I said I hope you make it to playoff I meant it. You team has a solid defense that has obviously improved. Solid defense an good goaltending can defeat a lot of teams come playoffs. My main point was not rough play, these kids are bantams it is time for rough play, it was that I think that kid lost control and was seriously trying to injure another kid. Having only 44 kids tryout at the bantam level is a difficult situation and a very tough district to be in. Playing at B1 will help them in the long run.

Good luck

lakers were in Mora. There's no doubt we were way off our game most of the weekend, but St. Thomas played really well - in our game. Maybe it's because this was our third tournament in as many weekends. Thought they had some great players, particularly #20. Goalie wasn't great, but we didn't test him. Just an observation.....

ah #20...yeah he can skate but that kid has a very big temper and got numerous stupid penalties for his actions. Also a couple misconducts. The goalie must have been on his game because normally he isn't that solid. Just gotta get a lot of shots on him and he breaks down. But i do agree with you that they are a solid team and can play good hockey if they start rollin

This was a great game, although once again WBBL out shot WBO almost 3 to 1. Again... Same thing that happened in the first match up. WBBL is 3 lines deep, with good goal tending, WBO is 2 1/2 guys deep, with good goal tending.

The problem is even though WBBL totally dominated both games, they have a hard time putting the puck in the net. I can't think of 1 kid up front that can shoot, hard or accurate, 90 % of there shots are were in the belly of the goalie.

WBBL is by far a deeper team - If WBO loses 1 of there 2 best players they will have a hard time winning anything.

Koho my city had only 16 kids tryout for bantams and we fielded a Bantam B1 team that is looking ok. So there is no way someone can complain about having 44 tryout.

championship game

Richfield 5
Coon Rapids 2

and the two goals they scored never should have went in two very sievy goals on goaltending errors

1 was a shot from just inside the blueline
2 was played out by the goalie and he pretty much passed it to a coon rapids player who scored instead of covering it or playing it behind the net..

wowsa...

AV played Prior Lake tonight...

ended 1-1 tie ( shots 32-13 AV )

AV scored after a few minutes and then PriorLake scored on their first shot of the game as the goalie seemed to duck down and it went in. Prior Lake only had that 1 shot in 1st period.

Prior Lake had a coach, parent (penalty box)
and player ejected from game....

Prior Lake had many penalties but 4 of the first 5 were trips and
were easily identified by everyone watching....but one coach
got pretty fired up....

so the "roughest" game of the district 6 year - will be PriorLake playing
against Edina White - and it's the last scheduled game of the year (2/2)
might have to go watch that - my prediction is 2 pages of penalties
for the scorekeeper......

actually i wasn't complaining - just stating a fact....about the 44

hats off to you guys - if you had 16 and fielded a A and B team -
that's pretty amazing mathmatics...
obviously you just said a B1 team - and that is great,
but my point was about 44 for trying to field an A and B1 team
to play in district 6 was some pretty positive thinking by the
AV team selection committee.....
I just thought we would have been a B2 team in district 6-
I just think seeing many teams this year - D6 has several
of the top teams.....

no complaints here.....lov the game...

If you can't think of one kid who can shoot then you must be 0 kids deep. (haha)

Listen, wb black is not any deeper than orange. What black does is control the puck a lot better than orange and black is one of the best passing teams I have seen all year.
Both teams are fun to watch, have good kids and will play again in districts.

But, I'll take the 2 1/2 play-makers any day.

I'm very curious who the 1/2 player is though?

Big games, cold feet and a well run tourney await 16 teams this weekend.

Any predictions of the opening round in Moorhead? Looks like some good ol' fashioned outstate vs metro matchups.

Over/under on number of times Eaglehomeboy gets asked not to carry Cubans in the "lounge" at the Holiday Inn...I'm taking 4...others?

Looking forward to seeing the mini-Rams, Thunderhawks and the like. Good luck and safe driving to all.

1. Shouldn't

Honorable Mention - "No, thanks."
