Gardy will probably get Boofed out of it by Leyland.
How about Ryan for Exec of the Year?
Between those 2, how can you be more off on who should be on your team?
Boofoonery.

Oh and BTW, If they have Guerrer replace Baker, who does Liriano replace?

I would have given it to Leyland, but since they've been Bill Bucknering, I thing Gardys a better choice. Its tough to swing the bat with both hands around your neck.
As far as Exec of the year, Ryan will get "Beane'd"

Liriano replaces Garza as the starter Wednesday. Liriano will only pitch 4 innings or so, and the plan is to bring Garza in after for long relief.
Booftastic!!!!
Thats what I thought

I wonder what his thinking is? Sounds Boofey to me.
Why not insert Liriano for Baker and leave Garza?

I'm not sure other than giving Liriano one more days rest after going 4 innings yesterday. But Garza hasn't been Boofing anyone either.
Bert comes back tonight, better keep his boofing mouth in check. They'll circle his arse right out of here.

A case could be made for Santana as the league MVP not necessarily because of his personal W/L record but rather the team's 26-5 mark(thanks to Boblee) in his starts. What does anyone from the casual fan to the GM want from their starters? I believe the saying goes "a chance to win". If there is anyone who has done that better than Santana over the last four years I'm all ears. In addition, has anyone noticed the crap that even good teams are throwing at the #4 and #5 spots. Then you have a guy that leads the league in K's, ERA, and Wins, if you can't recognize that as a special package then what can you see? The fact of the matter is that Santana won't get it, he is deserving but I don't see a pitcher taking home the award when everyday players like Dye, Jeter, and Papi are putting up numbers in the appropriate markets.
The rationale that excluded Santana from the Cy Young last year should immediately exclude big Papi from the MVP talk this year like it has already dismissed the beast that is Travis Hafner.
Accept it, as long as the Yankees or Red Sox are 30 over they will produce a personality that will be deemed to be the MVP. Just watch, when Jeter does win and his numbers don't support the award the East Coast voters will qualifiy their decision by factoring in his qualities that cannot be quantified.
You, I, and all of the 230 SO victims (many of which are multiple) know who the AL MVP is even if he isn't getting a continuous supply of verbal Liewenskies from the national media. In the end does it really matter? Afterall, did Randy Moss's MVP award make that loss to the Falcons any easier to accept?

Leave it to IS to eloquently lay it on the line. Verbal Liewenskies indeed! I also hear that some of the east coast media used to be figure skating judges in France and Russia.
Three cheers for Silva not finishing his outing with another case of diarreah.

Why didnt Pedro win the MVP in 1999 then?
Anyway, big, big win last night. Here is why:
#1 Silva is back. Thats really all we need from him. Boof a team like Oakland for 7 innings, throw up, and then come back in 5 days and do it again.
#2 They are hitting the ball.
#3 That was one of the 2 games we hadnt played yet that Det had. There is one more. We win both and there aint nothin they can do about it except watch.
1.5 games back. Incredible.
Nice boofing win

Yup, a very nice win by the Twins last night. While I'm still going to cover my eyes when Silva goes up against the White Sox or Yankees, he's now pitched two strong games in a row which is all you can ask for.
According to today's Strib the reason the Twins didn't sign Thomas was because of concern about whether his ankle would hold up on the dome's turf. Now maybe I'm missing something but the guy's a DH, how much running on this turf is he going to do??
1.5 games out. Boofing unbelievable.

They are taking huge strides at the division...but let's take a quick glance at home field throughout...
New York 86-56 --
Detroit 86-58 1 gb
Minnesota 84-59 2.5 gb
It could happen...by the way, mets are 88-55 that would be tough for the twins to catch...they are 4 back.

A great outing by Silva, but because of what is coming up today and tommorrow it is even bigger. With Guerrer and Liriano on a severe pitch count the bullpen will be taxed these next couple of games.
I can see the argument for Santana being in MVP consideration but he shouldn't win it let alone be top 3. He only plays in 1 out of 5 games, and at best will have only contributed in 35 of the 162 games. While he is important wouldn't Nathan with his 55 appearances be even more so? As much as people can point at Jeter and say East Coast bias the Yankees are the best team in the AL and with all their key injuries they still are a top team making Jeter a legitimate candidate.
Boston won't make the playoffs so Big Poppi and his DH will get top 3 votes but he shouldn't win it. If Chicago makes the playoffs, and I think they will along with the Twins, Jermaine Dye should be the MVP, his numbers are just enough better than Morneaus and he does get the clutch hits for a playoff team.
I actually spent more time watching the Twins game last night than the Vikings.

boblee,
The Mets record is Boofin' irrelevent, the AL will get 4 games due to the All Star game victory.
I must admit to the only other time seeing "boof" in print was on the campy 1960's Batman tv show. I'm sure packerboy remembers too...

If the legendary Slappy were to pull up a stool for the final 2.5 weeks of the baseball season, I believe he would suggest that everything is "up for grabs".
Mike and Mike tomorrow morning will officially begin to endorse Morneau as a serious MVP candidate. This is the time of year when one big week or one huge AB can get you on the center of the radar provided you have the season long digits. Morneau has the digits, now he needs the late inning heroics to strengthen his bid. I can here Greeny now "Golic, this guy is hitting .324 with 33 HR's and 120 RBI's for a team that has played .697 baseball since early June. He is the best player that nobody has heard of."
35,000 in two nights for a team that is 60-26 since June 7, I guess that's not a lack of interest, but rather a credit to Dick and Bert or Roy or Ron for bringing the game into our homes. I'm curious to see how many show up for Liriano's matinee tommorow, might be a big walk up.
With the Sox on the West Coast, these Twins' victories are certainly putting the heat on them when they see those finals go up. A's should be good and hungry for some wins by the weekend.
Weeks ago I said 95 wins will get the wild card. The computer has not moved that number as of yet.
Rondell White can not continue to play left field, his inability to throw cost them a run tonight. It's safe to say White's presence in LF means that Kubel and Ford are not in the equation anymore.
Has anyone seen Phil Nevin recently? My guess is he went Lohse on Gardy's door when he wasn't in the lineup yesterday. Nevin is now gagged and bound and locked in a room with Tony Batista and the good book..

MVP talk and stuff

I dont thnk pitchers should be eligible for the MVP award because:
1. I dont know how anyone can compare .320, 33 HRs and 120 RBIs with 18 Wins 5 losses 2.75 ERA 230 Ks and OPPBA .215.
Which one of those is more valuable? You have to have both to win.
2. We have the Cy Young... dah, I wonder why.
3. We dont have the "Babe Ruth Award" for the best everyday player.
One more comment on the MVP. I cringe when it is suggested that it has to go to a player on a playoff team. That really limps, IMO.
The MVP is an individual award. Division titles, WC spots, and pennants are awarded to teams. I dont know why an individual award is tied to team success. I also know that slappy would say that such thinking goes against the grain of so many fine posters on this most magnificant of forums.
Anyways, nice win last night. A little home field magic on this stand. Thats been missing for a while. 5 of 6 vs DET and OAK is pretty Boofin good. Lets make it 6 of 7 today.
IS, the attendence is a embarrasing. Only 15,000 on Monday night because of the Vikings? You gotta be Boofin me.
Keep Rondell out there. He hit the Boof out of the ball last night.
He started looking normal, got hurt, struggled and now looks pretty good, relatively speaking.
Hopefully you are right about Ford not being in the equation.
95 wins? With 18 left thats a 10-8 finish. I dont know if that will do it. It might. With the Sox having 17 left they'd have to go 12-5 to win 95....2.5 game leads are pretty big this time of year arent they.

most valuable player is tied to the team because of its name. most VALUABLE player. Not most outstanding player...if that was the case, it IS Johan Santana. Most VALUABLE player is the one who you say...wow, if they don't have him, they don't make the playoffs. For the TWINS...that could be Mauer, Morneau, or Santana, for the League...it's Dye or Morneau at this point...but Santana throws again soon and can change everyones mind real fast.

Well boblee , we better add Joe Nathan to the list because without him, we arent makin the playoffs. In fact, without Carlos Silva, they dont make the playoffs. Its a team thing. No one player can get a team a title.
Is it the MVP award or is it the "Best player from one of the playoff teams" award?

Going to the game today, will report tomorrow. Attendance usually drops a bit during the week once school starts, in August they were drawing exceptionally well during the week.

packerboy I feel your pain....
While I don't disagree with you on what the criteria for MVP should be, we have to keep it real. It has mattered to the people voting.
In 1998 Greenwell from Boston (playoff team) got more votes than the Twins (non-playoff) Puckett.
Greenwells line...
.325, 22HR, 119RBI
Pucketts line...
.356, 24HR, 121RBI
Don't like pitchers for the award? In 92 they gave it to Eckersley (playoffs) who only pitched 80 boofing innings!
Puckett (non-playoff) was 2nd with .329, 19HR, 112RBI
You can take a wish in one hand, and boof in the other...
Keep it real for sure

I dont have a problem with "if its close, give it to the guy whose team made the playoffs. "
But remember Rod Carew in 1977. .388 19 HRs and 100 RBIs. No playoffs. I realize I am 'against the grain' on this but the point of view has been adopted in some instances.
So its not like it has never been given to a guy who deserves it just because his team didnt make the playoffs.

Giving it to a boofing 80 inning pitcher goes "against the grain".
MVP - Morneau (see what Papi says about Jeter

)
Rookie of the Year - Liriano
Cy Young - who else?
Manager - Gardy
Exec - Ryan
GET THE BROOMS HILDA!!!!
Boofylicious....

Well, it isnt all that Boofey.
If Liriano comes back and wins 3 starts and they make the playoffs, how can we argue with any of your choices?
Especially if the Twins could knock the Tigers out of the divison , Booofing out Leyland, and Sox out of the playoffs, Boofing out Dye.
Mascot of the Year: TC
Road trip for 10 games. Huge. If they come back 3 games ahead of the Sox, its over.
Thursday night is big. Its the second "makeup game" on the Tigers and the last on the Sox.
Go Twins.
