We will need to check with Randolph to see if the HDM game Vs LN will be considered as a common opponent with ER or will it just be an outdoor exhibition game. Would like to know prior to the game if possible.

karl(east) wrote:Context, people. He's pretty clearly saying Elky doesn't play anyone *in 7AA.* (A competent journalist would have added that in brackets, but no one's ever accused Howie of being one of those. You'll note he incorrectly suggests that Marshall beat Cloquet, which is wrong. Also, he's tried to stir things up around the East program in the past in search of juicy storylines, and playing up the "elitist spoiled East" card is kind of his shtick.)
Saying ER plays no one is still an exaggeration, obviously, but they do play fewer section games than anyone other than Cambridge. That's the unfortunate reality of a schedule that involves 17 conference games and 2 holiday tournaments...it leaves 2 genuine open games (one is East, the other is Hill).
The point is that it's hard to hold East's losses to the mid-tier teams against them when the Elks didn't play those teams. Personally, I think these tortured arguments--which everyone will be making at the seeding meeting--are dumb, and overall resumes should matter more. And if we did things that way, we'd still wind up with the same exact order that Randolph listed. (With some chance that 2 and 3 could yet flip.)
If other teams want to use some hack writer's stuff as bulletin board material, I guess that's their prerogative. For my part, I don't care if East is 2 or 3 or even 4. If you can't win three games in late February, you don't deserve to go to state.
I'm surprised Mike would give Howie Hanson the time of day. Given that, was he quoted correctly or was it just another "journalistic hack job"? Mike would have no reason to give Elk River cannon fodder, but Howie has a history of dissing East. This could be just another chance for him to do so.
Or, Howie actually got it right (remember, even a broken clock is right twice a day).

This stuff should be saved for behind closed doors Mike, where you can do your best work. I guess no one else has any tough rivalry games.
Steal. Gotcha. The other coaches weren't capable of thinking for themselves. Perfect.

When was the last time it was this late in the season and you could make a decent argument for 3 different teams to be the 1 seed?

In 7AA, I don't recall this happening.

In any event, I still think it's between Elk River and Rapids for #1, East at #3.
As Karl said, on the ice will decide everything. Besides, East has no advantage being #1 if they have to face Cloquet in the semis. I keep having these David Brown flashbacks

I recall some circular arguing being possible in 2006 between East, GR, ER, and Cloquet.

The music isn't good enough. The radio announcers aren't good enough. The online feed isn't good enough. The specialty jerseys aren't good enough. Anything else?
It's high school. Everything is fine. Just enjoy the games.
Alright I'll get off my soap box a bit. For the record I only complained about the streaming when everyone else was the first week, I was one of hundreds.
bobber's is getting sensative in his "old age"
1,2,3,4 its all home ice for the Hounds. Bet that run of 7 in a row wouldn't happen if there was a fair rotation of venues.
beat that dead horse
'anyhoo' may the best team win the Hermantownless section.

N.O., we need to find you a bigger stick to whack the horse. I didn't really feel that one. Would be nice to see Hermanclown opt up. But, well...you know...

Sure doesn't seem to be much difference between the 3 of them.

Might have been. I ended up in ReadyCare that day so missed the 1-0 loss by East to Cloquet.

Dunno. Last I heard East was up 3-2 with three minutes left in the third.

3-2 was the final in OT. Hounds coughed up two late in the 3rd before rescuing things in the extra session.
Ugly, but definitely a trap game wedged in between a rivalry and Hockey Day. We'll see how they come out on Saturday.

It will do. It will also guarantee East's 63rd consecutive winning season. Not too shabby.

Was there, East outplayed them all night. Hopkins goal played really well stopping 37 of 40 shots.

Odd how some bad teams give good teams a problem with a simple defense.. Did Hopkins play the trap the entire game? Just find it odd East beat 7 better teams and yet still struggled

If you are referring to the year where there were multiple blizzards and several of the section final games were rescheduled, some a few times, that was 2007.

One shift in first Maple Grove game had all top 6 F's and top 4 D. All 10 of those players SHOULD be on the ice for Hill game on Wednesday
