East has to get to Amsoil first... They could drop to 5 and lose.. But we all know the politics won't let that happen
STMA would need to beat Cloquet by 4+ goals to have any chance of a 3, and East would have to lose by large margins at Blaine and Lakeville South
Whether I agree or disagree with your logic there... It's all very possible...
See you can be reasonable...lol
So your tellin me there's chance...

sanryam wrote:STMA HAS to beat Cloquet to have any hope of being a 3 or 4 seed. If Cloquet beats STMA, they should get 4 seed and would solidify East at 3 since East did beat CEC in their first H2H.
If STMA loses to Cloquet, they will (and should) be 5th seed. Period.
If STMA really is on the rise and serious about being competitive, they need to strongly consider scheduling some tougher teams next year. That schedule is a joke.
Your saying everything we say down here... Our conference schedule is Brutal this year for,the talent of our team compared to other years..
We would love to play top teams every game...
Especially if we were to lose, well then we could say "we may have lost our games but at least we played tough teams so our SOS should count even though we're under .500" Just like everyone else does.. SOS again means nothing unless you win some games...
Seriously though we would rather play tougher teams....

Being a guy who has played in the east cloquet game before, this seemed like a classic game. Nobody can truly understand what happens on the ice during that game if you've never played in it... When the puck drops at the lumber dome, anything can happen. An East-Cloquet game is 80 percent mental. Great effort by the Lumberjacks tonight. I love Esse.
East will be playing Flake or Andover first round and they should make it to amsoil fine.

I don't doubt that, but until you do, you're going to have to deal with the fact that a good record alone won't get you much respect in HS hockey. Hell, there was a Cambridge team that won 20 games some years back and still was a 7 or 8 seed. Like it or not, a team with a middling record that has avoided terrible losses and proved it can at least stick with some of the state's best teams will get more respect than someone who hasn't. That's a principle I've used in ranking teams for the past 7 years all across the state. I continue to use it because, the vast majority of the time, the eventual results prove it accurate. Not all the time, but most of the time.
I won't be upset if East loses its two games left before the seeding meeting, STMA beats Cloquet, and STMA grabs #3. (There is zero chance East will be lower than #4.) East will have had its opportunities to end the debate that they've wasted, and as I've said before, any team that can't win three games in the playoffs doesn't deserve it. That said, I will be genuinely surprised. That's just realism, not Mike Randolph's black helicopters.

You absolutely sure about that? East did already tie Andover once this year...

I don't think East will realistically fall below 4.. As I said prior, I do think STMA can jump up to 3 but if they lose to Cloquet can fall to 5 and play Cloquet a week later... East is either 3 or 4, STMA is either 3 or 5, Cloquet is either 4 or 5... And this is because everyone seems to think Rapids has already earned the 2...
We will find out 7days. From now

With STMA being relatively new to the party I wonder how hard it was for them to not see these kids coming and have the AD work on the non-conference schedule. They seem to schedule the best in the state in Wrestling and basketball. The Lake Conference is always looking for games with only 5 teams in it.

Hopefully next year we can get some better teams to schedule us.. But again, some games we have to play..

I don't see East losing out in their last 3. Wouldn't be surprised to see them go to Blaine and win.

If this year has proven anything it's that don't count anyone out...

It a done deal, Louis St George of the Duluth News Tribune put on Twitter that coach Randolph, after the CEC game that he thinks the 7AA should look like this:
1. Elk River
2. Grand Rapids
3. Duluth East
4. Cloquet

If things go this way with the seeds, I'm taking Cloquet to beat STMA, and upset Elk River at Amsoil Arena in OT. Other side, I think East will get a scare from Andover and meet GR in the semis. Rapids and East will play a close game and Gerth has been solid in goal, so I like Rapids chances to win and go on to beat CEC in the final.

All I know is there are going to be some tight games in 7AA.

I'm happy that the section is more competitive this year than in years past. Maybe having two or three difficult section games will give the winner of the section the ability to win it all.

If DE gets to the Section Final, they'll find a way to win it. Randolph is like 15-1 in section finals. Their style lends them to a close defensive game which plays in their favor. I know based on their results thus far one can say that it hasn't necessarily worked since they haven't beaten a real quality team, but playoff are different. In a close playoff game at Amsoil, I like their chances against pretty much anyone in the state.

I don't totally disagree with that... That's also another reason why there should be venue changes and not always played at Amsoil..
