Elliot I know you and respect you alot for what you have done for the youth of Bemidji in the hockey and baseball programs. But why be angry at alot of us for voiceing our opinions on this.

It just seems silly to make the switch now with the youth program on the up swing. And supposedlly having to go back to AA in a couple years. If we stayed AA we already have the schedule and the rivalrys with all these teams ,now all that will be gone.

Multiple rinks make it easier to schedule multi-team programs (youth, HS, grils, figure skating etc..)
Having four rinks or one should not matter to the HS current season. Only to the program as a whole and as they go forward.

I grew up in a town with zero indoor rinks but yet they were the state champs almsot every year over a period of a decade.

And Ramfan.. good luck in Virgina.

A friend of mine is a dentist in Salol.

Not really.
The majority of our schedule is Mariucci conference..
Roseau, Moorhead will continue to be on our schedule.
I don't remember where our contract with GRapids is at, but even if it needs renewing, GR is not giving up a close game agaisnt future teams they know are competitive. We may lose River Lakes and Monticello, but are they rivals????
And perhaps we can get a St Thomas or Breck on the schedule...
or Blaine or Elk River... not knocking RL and Monti (they have come a long way) but if we can trade those 2 games for 2 of those 4 would you not agree that we have improved our schedule.

Like I have said, I prefer AA... Iwould like to see others that I deal with in D16 play AA, but the HS have to decide what they think is best.
Personally I think the MSHSL should find a way to equitably bring it all back to one tourney. Not going to happen as they are academic... not about hockey. (and perhaps money)
And it was not my choice... I was told what the kids wanted and asked my opinion...
now I am trying to make it positive...
but when a blonde comes on here and call the boys chicken PLEASE BAN ME, I get upset with him (and those likehim)...
especially when his home town is playing single A.

I support the boys (and girls) playing sports in Bemidji.
I try to make tehm better at their sport and as people....
Those kids read this stuff, hear about it and pass it around...

I think someone should stick up for them, so I do.
Adn I don't use a series of letters for my name...
I use my name, I am proud of our kids and not afraid to let people know it.
And a nice thing for me, I have kids all around the state..
more so in D16, but may others also.

Like RamFan2010, he may not know it but I would guess he is one of my kids.

2010 - I figured you were still eligible, well you were last year is my guess, so you were one of my boys then.

elliott...maybe the Lumberjacks and Crusaders of St. Cloud Cathedral should clash...SCC's schedule could use a little beefing up.

Yes, and his wife.
She grew up across the street from me about a century ago.
Slappy was still playing hockey at that time.

And Mr. Carter and Mr Erickson and Mr Hedlund...
and Donna and Larry at Nelson's Cafe....

George - that would be a great idea.
What happened to Matt Crandall(?) the D?
Did he play juniors this year?

Matt is playing for the Sioux City Musketeers of the USHL. He's having a pretty good season.

Any one talking to him?

I have no idea. I haven't talked to him nor his dad for a while now. I'm surprised I didn't see his dad in Blaine yesterday, but there was a wicked snowstorm.

Haha thats what everyone says... about me being a girl... but I was just looking on Roseau's hockey website one day and saw that there was a link to a message board, so I went on it and I was like Roseau is having a good year it would be fun to make topics about up coming games and stuff even though i pretty much know nothing about hockey! I just learned the basics this year as i sat next to my friends who play hockey (like what off sides means and a penalty shot). So yeah I just improvise and state my opinion on here, not knowing if I make any sense at all... lol!

did someone already tell you I was a girl??? I had said it a month ago or so when someone kept calling me a boy I thought i would really throw them for a loop by telling them I was a girl! haha, but then they just said I was a freshman girl and a Newby.. that was weird cause they would have never known I was a girl if I wouldnt have told them!!

Elliot, some good posts and I respect alot of what you say. One thing, please don't bring up the idiotic statement that Roseau went AA because they didn't want to have to play Warroad, as you referred to in an earlier post. Anyone that knows a shred about high school hockey knows that Roseau's program and tradition has dictated what class they are playing in and Warroad does not have an effect on what we do. Teams play where they feel they can have success. Warroad never won a big school state championship and probably stays in A, so they don't have to compete with Roseau to go to state. Bemidji has had very limited success in AA and maybe staying in A and having success will jumpstart the town and the program.

Just for sake of conversation, Roseau in 11-4 against Bemidji in all levels of boys youth hockey this year and there is a bantam eligible player on the varsity team this year. He could have been a difference maker on the Roseau bantam team.

Can you not read?

Bemidji beat Roseau in bantams. Bemidji beat Roseau in peewees.

Roseau has some exceptional talent on their varsity team and has beat everyone they have played except Moorhead. Three games with Roseau, 3 -2, 6-0, and 6-0.
Roseau's youth program bantams/peewees about 40 kids, Bemidji about 40 kids.

Mitch and Lee - don't you think an IQ test would be appropriate before membership is granted to this board.
Heh heh...welcome to my world. This is what I go through when someone starts talking out of a non-mouth orifice about the Hounds. Image.

Could you break down the 11-4 for me?

Bantam A
1-1 Season
0-1 D16 Districts Bemidji 2nd, Roseau 1st
1-0 VFW Districts

Bantam B
0-2 Season
? D16 Districts

PeeWee A
1-1 Season
1-0 D16 Districts Bemidji 1st, Roseau 2nd

PeeWee B
0-2 Season
? D16 Districts

A's 4-3
B's 0-4(?) Where do the other 4 wins come from (I couldn't find B District results)? Squirts?

B's did not play Roseau during districts.

Squirts may have played twice, but Bemidji and Roso handle squirts differently.

G & W fan - remember I said ask a Warroad person.....
Roseau is #3 on my list of favorite teams.
I have nothing but admiration for all those Roso teams and people and for the potato dumplings at Nelson's Cafe.

My real point is the 10 & 11 grade boys made the A decision...
I think the rest of us should respect that, even if we disagree. Yes, it ahs an impact on theis years 9th graders, but only to the extent they play in teh A play-offs there Jr year.

I know all about the bantam kid in Roso, a few conversatins with people about when and if he could come back to bantams. I think the point of that discussion is that things change from time to time in the cycle of good teams. Moorhead is on par with Bemidji, Roseau, Grand Rapids, Brainerd at bantams this year. At pee-wees Bemidji is a step ahead of Moorhead. Bemidji people are excited about this and for some it is hard to understand why they would play A hockey.
I am just trying to give them some basis rather that just p[ick on any certain individual or group. As they say if you have lemons, do the best you can with them... if you have an A program make it a positive experience - there are worse things in the world.

Bemidji should NOT move down to AA because they have had a couple downer years. They have good teams coming up and they have always, (with the exception of the last couple years) had a good shot at 8AA champs.

Roseau had the same problem around 03 and 04. Many of the kids wanted to move down to class A, because they didn't think they could compete at the AA level, which at the time was true. Moorhead waxed us 10-0 in sections.

8A wouldn't have been any easier as that was the infamous year of the 15-1 trounching by Warroad on our home ice.

Point being, 8A isn't much easier to get through with Warroad, EGF, TRF, ect. if your having a down year, your not getting by those teams either. Bemidji will bounce back from this as Roseau has. The problem may lie in some of the youth level coaching (that seemed to be a big part of Roseau's lack of success) and talent goes in cycles.

Stay in AA Bemidji, and you'll get your chances
