I like the signing of Livan. With the twins doing a better job with pitchers and having such a great bullpen he wont have to worry about going 9 innings every outing. He should be able to mentor some young players and he should be able to go 6-7 innings every game he starts.

Just what we want. A pitcher whose pitch count has been abused and his arm is about to go out.

All we need now is Bartolo and we are set for this season.

What's this "we" stuff? I thought the Twins signed him, not the Yankees.

Nah, Livan Hernandez has a rubber arm.

Freddy Garica's a free agent coming off a shoulder injury so another option on the injured list.

Also a article related to Liriano. I'd be surprised to see him on the Twins to start the season, he'll probably open up in Rochester.

And he shall be Livan, and he shall be the same as Carlos Silva.

jackdaniels told me not to be so upset and that Livan is Carlos Silva for less than half the money.

Thats fine jack but why do we need another Hi oh Silva. Wasn't one enough?

Spend some money on a hitter.

Nah, Livan Hernandez has a rubber arm.
Rubber arms do break after enough wear.

I don't know if anybody saw this article, but I'm sure it'll drive PB up the wall, so I'm posting it!

In essence, after all the deals (or lack thereof) this offseason, the Twins are $22m under budget (which was probably too low to begin with). Now granted, they didn't know how the Santata situation would shake out until the last couple of weeks, but there is room - and now it's probably too late to get anybody in her to can make any real impact in '08. For those doubting the Santata trade, there's another reason to be upset they didn't pull the trigger for a better deal earlier at the Winter Meetings (I still say the jury's out on it, but based on this bit of info, I definitely say the trade should have been done sooner, if nothing else).

It's time to get the Nathan deal done, and start reviewing free agent contracts for '09.

I did read it and it looks like they will spend the money on a few stiffs.

The goal appears to be: how many scrap heap free agents can we sign with the 22 million.

As bad as people seem to think it is, remember, things could always be worse...

Unbelievable.

Do you think you know what you are talking about?

It now makes sense to me why you quit halfway through.

He was a Yankee. I thought you would be more interested in that

So i guess i can quit wondering if the Twins will spend some of that $20 mil or so they had left in the budget. I heard the new GM in an interview this afternoon, they asked him if they'd be looking for a big name guy or two somehow and related the extra money and he basically said no, we'll be using that money towards paying signing bonuses this year that will be due within the next year or two. So he spins it by saying it will free up more money for '09 and '10 but i'm sure they'll find something better to spend it on then as well...same old crap.

Is Mike Piazza over the hill?

Would he be a better option than Jason Kubel? He's probably within budget at this point.

Last season in Oakland Piazza hit .275 with 8 HR in 309 ABs. He also struck out 61 times. He'll be 39 years old this season, turning 40 on September 4th. I say sign him to a minor league deal and see what he can do. I personally feel that he'd be a better option that Jason Kubel, but I've always been a pretty big Piazza fan. I would also think that Piazza would be a good addition to the clubhouse as a generally good guy.

Seems like every year he creeps into the free agent/trade discussion up here, but now might be the time to roll the dice.

- Because of his 1/2 season last year, he'll be cheap
- The Twins actually have money they may be able to spend

Every year we also hear how he want to play on one coast or the other, wonder if he feels he still has that kind of veto power? Nobody's beating down his door and if he wants to play, it would seem to me that he'd have a good chance to do it in Minnesota.

Piazza had a really soild career that has been over with for about 5 years.

He is a Twins kind of a free agent.

The starting 9 are in the lineup (minus Morneau)..

5 innings, 0 runs.

Good start!

1st inning... Juan Gonzalez (who has only 1 MLB plate appearance in the last 3 years)... 3 run HR off of Johan Santana.

Johan's line:

2IP, 4H, 3ER, 1K

Spring Training ERA: 13.50

WE ROBBED THE METS!!! Suck on that, NY!
