Nobody asks, "How many titles does
Bloomington have in hockey" because there are two distinct schools within the district. You'll never hear anyone or see a graphic during any telecast during the state tournament that combines Kennedy and Jefferson's titles. It doesn't matter that both schools are in the same city they are distinctly different entities. By this logic Minnetonka should count all athletic titles won by Hopkins as their own given that HHS lies within Minnetonka city limits as do the vast, vast majority of its students. But the don't, and they shouldn't.
That said the Edina/East argument is not as cut and dry imho given there is now only one school and it essentially encompasses what was then East.

Otown makes a good point. There have been a few splits followed by consolidations.
WBL is a good example. Mariner made one state appearance. WBL is credited with 17. Did any of those occurr while Mariner was in existence. If so , why are Edina's titles split between East and Edina?
If Edina had decided to call its new school "Cakeater High" instead of "West" and the old school would have just been called Edina , would they split the titles?
Alexander Ramsey and Roseville's state apperances are split. Kellog has one.
Whats in a name?

Boys, boys.
Where BIAFP lives there isnt anything high to take a leap off of.
But its interesting to me anyways.
If the records are to be consistent, I said consistent not right, WBL's tournamnet appearances should be split betwen WBL High which was pre Mariner and WBL Area High, post Mariner.
Sounds ridiculous but thats what they did to Edina.
persistent, for sure

BIAFP wrote:Clown- I am going to take a leap of faith here and assume you are not as ignorant as your comments regarding state titles. The records are by "school" and Edina has 6, Roseau and I. Falls have 7. Yes Edina East has three. They don't combine all the schools in St. Paul either

Great. You were the only one looking at records here by school, and then Lee joined you.
The comment, which I'd find if I can remember where it was, is that trash talking works best when your community has more titles than Roseau. It does, so there's nothing to argue. Yet you do anyway.
If you want to make up something for "Stump the Schwab" where there is a question, "According to MSHSL annals, which
school is recognized as having won the most distinct state hockey championships?" go ahead. That answer is Roseau High with 7. Lee looked it up. I think International Falls may have 7 too.
Edina used to compete as Edina-Morningside. I'll let you judge whether that's a different school too or the same. Moot point to me since they represented the same community and the decision 50 or so years ago to annex a few blocks near 44th & Sunnyside (near Convention Grill if you like movies) probably had more to do with sewer services than future championship accounting semantics.
How is my acute awareness of Edina's history and geography
ignorant in any way? If anything, seems that you are unaware of what has happened. To even try to argue that Edina East wasn't representing the community in 1974, 1978, and 1979 when it was in the same darn building with the same coach and mascot as title teams from 1969, 1971, and 1974 is a puzzling one. You've never let us know, which community were they representing?
Ignorant I am about Roseau's past, like when their leading scorer graduated from HS. Sheesh.

Slapper, around Minnesota nobody would ask because the schools (two today, once three) have their own identities. If a Bloomington-based AAA summer team were playing in Chicago and a parent from Massachusetts asked someone, "does Bloomington have a rich hockey history? Have they ever won the state tournament I've heard so much about?" the reply would be that they've won a lot. They have two schools that have each won multiple times. As you've said, not really an issue in Minnesota where the reference point is different.
There are so few schools that have a comparable situation to Edina with a split followed by a merger - and none really have the success in hockey so I don't think people are even aware today that Roseville is a merger of two schools - Tartan and Alexander Ramsey I think. White Bear Lake had Mariner. Bloomington went from 1 to 3 back to 2.
A friend e-mailed me that Eden Prairie is up to around 1,000 students per grade. If they split and someone see Lower Eden Prairie on the tube and wondered, "have they ever won it?" the only response I could see giving is, "they recently split one HS into two and the old school won it ALL THE TIME!"

But look a little closer when BIAFP tells you that his beloved IF has 7 titles.
Their last title was a Class A champioship , or as BIAFP refers to it "BSquad". The other 6 were won in one class hockey which doesnt exist anymore. BIAFP is so much fun
So these metrophobics like BIAFP and his ilk want to split up the number of titles if a metro school changes its name temporarily, but combine them from different classes if they are poor witto northern schools.
You've heard of "garage logic". This is flannel shirt logic.
So I say to BIAFP and his kind, maybe we should wipe the records clean after we went to 2 classes too. It would sure make people from SSP feel better

I was wondering that as well. Okay, so we need to make a decision and impose it on the MSHSL. After all, we are many, they are few.....
...so, is there a formula to be used when converting Class A titles to Class AA? Do we ignore the old Tier II (sorry, Greenway) titles?

That is the beauty of History........you can't change it. Edina High School won 6 titles, Edina East High School won three titles. I know people like PB hate facts and don't like to be confused by them but facts are facts.

The records for Class AA under Championships should read:
"Edina/Edina East" 9

Isn't this a Roseau thread. What has Edina done lately? Thats like all those freakin Packer fans using the "atleast the Packers won a Super Bowl ten years ago" line. Give it up.

So after March 8, if the Rams don't make it, we won't hear anything else from Roseau about '07, right?

You know you are wrong.
The Hornets have won 9 and they should be given their due. Admit it like a man.
As far as that St Paul idea, if it would add up to more than 9 , I would.

They are going to win so we will naturally have to talk about them being they will be two time defending champs.

Just got off the phone with my good friend Dave Stead at the MSHSL and he said they recognize "member schools" in their records and since Edina High School, Edina West High School, and Edina East High School were all separate and distinct member schools nothing will change. Time to move on
