JS,

I know you were't saying anything about your daughter and apologize if you felt that. I just care a lot for this group of girls and want the team to realize their potential. For that to happen parents/players can't be negative. We must trust the coaching staff and thier decisions. We can always second guess but we must be supportive.

Go Bears!

This is has all the makings of a Greek tragedy… you know were the central character (Coach) called a tragic protagonist or hero suffers some serious misfortune (like being hired …Ugg!) which is not accidental and therefore meaningless, but is significant in that the misfortune is logically connected with the hero's actions (trying to do his very best). Tragedy stresses the vulnerability of human beings whose suffering is brought on by a combination of human and divine actions (heart breaking losses, preventable penalties, unlucky bounces of the puck, etc.), but is generally undeserved with regard to its harshness. This situation, however, is not totally pessimistic in its outlook. Although many tragedies end in misery for the character (criticized on public a forum), there are also tragedies in which a satisfactory solution of the tragic situation is attained (having a successful season). Nothing brings a malcontent to the front of the line like a State Tournament run...ehh!

The actual tragedy nevertheless is that there appears to be some level of frustration in Bear town (but is this really a new concept). So the real questions is, are these dissatisfied individuals bringing their displeasure to the forum because the situation is beyond hope or are they just some complainer who have nothing better to do. Who’s opinion is correct...WBLHockey (Oh… by the way not cool to bring the kid into it…you lose all credibility)? Or the overly optimistic Melvin44 (you make a lot of sense and can’t help being inspired by your unconditional support… but get the feeling you have been sipping on the cool aid to long)? I don’t think any of us can really pass judgment and declare a victor. Because, the eye is truly in the hand of the beholder. It’s all about your own personal experience and perception. IMO, if you have an investment you have an opinion. I’ve gone on record as not being supportive of parent coaching at the High school level. Just don’t see any real benefit. No real upside. It’s too easy for the current circumstance to be used as a vehicle for blame. I mean no matter how they handle the situation they are going to be wrong. I’ve also been critical of this coaching staff for their decisions and their methods…maybe not on the forum but…you know behind the glass (with the other cowards). However, after reading these past posts on this subject (and feeling a little embarrass by association) I have finally realized (that and my wife’s pleads) that it’s extremely unproductive and ….a little pathetic (okay a whole lot pathetic). It is time to stop the second guessing… the brooding stares…the negative comments and recognize that even if our concerns are valid they really serve no other function then to achieve a hollow gratification that can only be ours…. Now how tragic is that.

And by all means go Bears!

I don't think this has been posted on the girls forum, although it was posted on the youth forum. A friend sent it to me, and I think it serves as a good reminder for all of us.

[I haven't yet tried to link a URL -- I hope I did it right. Otherwise, copy it into your browser to get to the video.]

Okay, I also meant to put this into a new category. Maybe someone more sophisticated on this forum can do so for me. Thanks.

Nice post HH.

Yes, I do sip/guzzle cool aid and yes I do believe any team can beat anyone on any given day as I've seen it many times. It can be done if everyone believes.

Remember this team took Roseville, GRG and Centennial to OT and I thought was as good or the better team in all games. It can be done!

It certainly helps define and explain what’s missing from the WBL girl’s hockey program, why kids have moved from playing hockey at WBL (and probably will continue to do so) and gone to HM or other schools, and the state of the WBL girl’s hockey team as it is today. The wins and losses of this WBL team don’t tell the entire story of this team. Both WBL and HM were given opportunities, because of their new coaches, to really make some positive changes. As the coach from HM said, “no disrespect to the coaches before…..our angel is we have a new beginning”. What a refreshing outlook. “New beginnings, team unity, good players, new traditions, kids wanting to be pushed harder to be more competitive, a burning desire for success, and a coach that really appreciates you”. WOW!!! I can only imagine, based on their comments in the article, how happy the players at HM are and what positive life experiences they are having, and not just with hockey. I can only wish this for the girls on the WBL team. I personally don’t think it is unrealistic of the parents and players to have those expectations of the WBL head coach. The WBL head coach has a very talented group of players on his team, but needs to break out of his shell and focus on the success of his entire team and actually learn to be a real hockey coach. As the head coach, he owes it to each and every player to do a much better job than he currently is, in all areas. I truly wish he would have taken on his job as the head coach to really make some positive changes for the whole WBL team. I sometimes think he took on the job for other reasons. Maybe the team should be renamed the “Kwapick Family Team”, and instead of the girls having T-shirts with the motto “Team above self”, it should be “The coaches daughter is above the rest of the team”. Also instead of the title “coach”, his title might as well just be “parent”. Parent coaches???? Don’t get me going on that :x Yes, I am frustrated, not only for my own kid, but for all the girls on the team. The WBL head coach’s style of coaching doesn’t really benefit anyone. By the way, did anyone else think it was odd that WBL put out their entire third line with about 5 minutes to go in the game last night against Roseville? (I truly mean no disrespect towards those players) What a message to send to all the WBL girls. “Three goals down, we can’t win”. Are you kidding me? We may play them in Sections. Don’t you think the kids might refer back to that reaction if they get down again? Besides reading the article in the St. Paul Pioneer Press, maybe the WBL head coach should also watch the movie “Miracle”. As a parent, I don’t want my daughter to be given the message that it’s alright to just give up on things in life when they get tough or seems impossible. Would it have been hard for WBL to come back and beat Roseville? I sure bet it would have, they are a great team, but weirder things have happened. More importantly, our daughters should not be taught to give up. They are all good kids and deserve much more&
You sound bitter and Very angry! you need to step back an d take a deep breath!
It is not fair to to the rest of your team, if it is your team!
Your ranting on this site it almost appears like you are from another team and trying to cause termoil in the ranks of WBL. If you are truly from WBL then it is time to set up a meeting with the Coach and AD.

I think this thread has run its course. Nothing productive happening here.

It is Just one embarassing post after another...for the coach, maybe, But mostly for the parents that spew this crap while cowering behind their computer.

Point well taken. Thanks you both for bringing me back to reality. Just for the record I’m not bitter or angry, just frustrated. But you are correct it is embarrassing. Sorry if my comments offended anyone, that was not my intent.

Frozenfeet,

Thaw out those feet and allow a cooler head to prevail, set up a time when you can have a conversation with the coach and explain your feelings,
take in an unbiased person with you.

there is a good chance the coach is overwelmed! and not a bad person!
sometimes constructive criticism is good, but at least hear what the coach has to say and ask if he is open to suggestions.

and above all, remember it is just a game.

What is wrong with you parents? Gosh! I talk with parents from most every team and I'll tell you there're are issues and complaints about EVERY team and I gaurentee that EVERY team has players that don't get along. EVERY team has parents that hate the coach. They just don't post it in forums.

Our girls do get along. Our team is good. Our program will be fine. Our coach is a great guy who cares very much for the girls

Winning isn't everything and only one team wins state. Only 8 go to state and sometimes the best team doesn't win or even get there. Look at the last 2 years.

I'm proud of WBL and proud of my daughter for choosing WBL over Hill. She had a chance to play for Hill and was recruited. She chose WBL because of her friends not only in hockey but also away from the sport. She is happy with her decision and believes strongly of their chances of going to state not only this year but also next.

Please everyone in this forum forgive the few who choose to go down this path. Trust me most of our parents are very nice people. Yes, some are crazy.

It's just a game. You have to believe!

Melvin44, I totally agree with you. I feel sorry that you have someone that is that angry to post against the coach and then his daughter on top of it. I am not a WBL player or parent but I happen to know the Kwapicks and think they are a very nice family. Jerry has coached my daughter in the past on summer teams and in no way did I feel he favored his daughter. I have come to your highschool games and I don't feel that she was favored either. I assume that you feel that your daughter is being slighted playing time. I want you to know that all these negative words on the forum are not going to make your team any better. . .only tear it apart. I think that White Bear does have lots of talent. You should be fortunate that you have the numbers that you do. Our area only has enough girls to field a team and no cuts. . .sometimes not even enough to fill a JV roster. Feel fortunate! I cannot believe that the negative feelings of whoever wrote the negativity about the coach doesn't push his negative feelings off on his daughter and then that negativity is brought to the team. I am no hockey expert but cannot believe that the negativity can continue. The girls will only have this high school experience once in their life. You might as well make the most of it. Enjoy the time. . .it goes by way too fast. Good luck to Mr. Kwapick and the remainder of the team. I just hope the girls don't read these posts.
