I believe Rochester Bantam A's are in the state tourney again this year and have a decent shot at it. If I remember correctly, they took 3rd in 2007?

Its not the matter of that its the matter of how they should be playing with players that they should be playing with in high school

they only have 2 teams north and south for 4 high schools....it doesnt give the players the chance to gel as a team....

I see what wou are saying but through my youth career we stayed on the same team with the same kids pretty much every year. Most kids do end up going to the same high school. But getting to know kids from other schools made cross town rivalries much more personal.

yea i see what your going at with that also but i beleve that final step for the rochester teams to being successful is for them to have each high school have at least a bantam program....

hang on SEMN...I understand that they have two A teams- split 1-16 and then the next 16 or so, not a north/south split. I see that the 2nd A team only won a few games this year, not very competitive at all, so how can you think they should have four A teams?

Not to mention Austin beat the defending champs Bvlle at Bvlle in the Quarter finals back in the glory days.

What year was that??? I assume you mean section champs and not state champs for Burnsville.

It was the year after Bvlle beat Hill Murray. My cousin Tony Scheid was a freshman and he scored 4 goals they beat Bvlle 4-1 in Section quarter finals..

Incorrect....Burnsville beat Hill Murray in 1985 and 1986. In 1987 the Braves lost to Kennedy in the finals.
Was it 1988? Still part of the dynasty days, but not after they beat Hill.

Yeah Rochester is the third biggest city in Minnesota, I dont think being spread over four schools is that big of a deal.

You have to look at school enrollment...JM is about to be Class A for hockey the way things are going. EP and Burnsville are about the equivalent to Mayo and JM. Lourdes is private and small numbers.

I would be interest in youth hockey numbers. The booming population in Rochester does not really know what vulcanized rubber is folks. Not to mention the cost of wrestling and basketball.

With that said, if one thinks RYHA has a clue, they don't get it either. Basically one Bantam A team? And how many are drinking the purple poision as Sioux Fan said......you are right, Doug Z is drinking it now too!

Boy, we sure are kicking out those D-1 guys we 'discovered' when they were 11-12 huh?

That PB article on the Faupals and their uncle was a fraud. Back when Wieck played there was one Bantam A team and it fueled JM in those years. We went two for about 10 years - basically JM and Mayo and the public schools went to 8 tournaments, plus a couple by Lourdes.
Now we are going backwards to one "A" team at each level. So this year Century makes it....the next who knows? Not many wins last year.
Mayo will be lucky to win 10 games next year, JM maybe 6-10.

Yikes, we go issues down here, but the 'experts' won't listen to reason!

The history of Rochester hockey is ok....a few NHLers and some Olympians...nothing like you get out of some other schools.
JM hasn't even had 20 D-1 players in their history and they had 10 on one TEAM!!!!
Mayo has had a few more, but never enough depth to get it done.
Century has had one and he is sucking big time right now.
Lourdes has had a nice run of D-1; they will keep getting a few more if the purple posse has their way!!!

What a joke of a statement in that article - 'rich' Rochester hockey tradition. It could be much richer with out so many 'experts' running the show, including those on the payroll for 8 years and almost $250,000 now!

I think it was around 81 and B'vlle was the 1 seed in the section is what it was. Apple Valley went on to go to state I think they beat Austin at the Met Center i think Austin hit the pipe a bunch of times. The championship for Bvlle came later.

I was very excited that Austin could go into Bvlle rink and win a playoff game that is what I remember.

I think the year Apple Valley went to state with the two Canadian boys that transferred in was the year.

I guess Bvlle was not defending champ they I think were the #1 seed in the Section. Tony played a heck of a game for a freshman.

It is Alzheimers disease.. I remember my son jason was just a little baby so it must have been around 81 or 80.

One year they got smoked by Jefferson at the Met Center the next year I think they lost to Apple Valley...@ the met center.

Lots of good kids on those Austin teams.

I do not believe you would be here crying about RYHA if Mayo hadn't choke this year. So rochester has two teams at state and RYHA sucks, you better
go spend four more years at MAYO. Maybe you need to drink some more of That Grosso/Whitney Kool-aid and everything will be the same as the last 40 years of below average hockey at Mayo. JM will have more wins than Mayo next year, unless they can recruit more kids from austin. Enjoy the Lourdes and Century games while your at work or School

Harper has been hot lately and the Brockway/Larson line has been as good as its ever been.

I guess it seems to me that Roch has 2 schools in state tourney, Century and Lourdes. Thats pretty good. Looks like Bantam A is in state this year too, so must be decent program.

Purple Kool-Aid.....Just go watch a practice! The three public school coaches run a practice like it was 1970, 2 guy's moving and 18 standing around watching. There is no flow, no tempo and very little speed.

Watch a LHS practice (Ness, Haskins or Gill) the intensity is incredilble. There are always 4 to 5 kids moving with 2 or 3 more participating in the drill......


It doesn't take Kool-Aid to have kids jump ship to the Purple Pride just a little brains.

I will have to agree wit this statement, The slow tempo, not everyone being invloved just is a waste of time, also if you run a hard, fast paced practice, your are taking care of the conditioning aspect, and youy truely are practicing like you play by having kids tired and haveing to make quick decisions. Nothing agsint Fruitger, Lecy, or Grosso, but its obvious that Gill and company knows how to practice like a game. Also i belive LHS does dryland and such, thats something the public schools need to start doing in the off season and during the week to maintain the explosive muscell memory during the season

ya to bad his dad is a little baby threatening to send his kid to shatick if he doesnt get most of the PT next year... i swear parents baby there kids so much now.. i doubt he will start over sellnow

Kautz is one of the top 5 bantam goalies in the state. He may not start for the first few games but will work his way into that position sooner than later.
He does not need daddy's help.

That is exciting two good goalies at Century next year good goalie at Lourdes Good Goalie at JM...

Pretty harsh calling a kids dad a baby. I have watched the Bantam Goalie should make for a good tryout next year. Most coaches would love to have that kind of a problem with 2 goalies fighting hard for the starting job.

I have not seen this bantam kid play but I have heard he is really good! but as of right now I don't think he willl be playing over Sellnow, he is doing very well right now and has just lead his team to the State tournament as a Sophmore. So I think this Bantam goalie is going to have to wait a little bit and get used the shots comming at him a little faster!

Sellnow didn't impress me at all when i saw him play against winona in the section quarters and he really didnt impress me in the section championship against lakeville north, gives up some juicy rebounds that are being asked to be put in. 2nd goal against Sellnow in the championship was god awful! right in the chest and gave up a rebound which put the game in reach for north at the time, overall poor fundamentals
