Not much changed. I think everyone in both 5AA and 7AA is happy to see Anoka back in 5AA, and it made sense with numbers too, so that was a no-brainer. While an attempt at greater parity in the metro would have been nice, there's something to be said for stability, and we should see the development of some good rivalries in sections 2 and 6.

Anoka to 5AA

I agree...including Anoka, 8 of the 9 teams in 5AA play in the NWSC...and while I agree that St. Francis, Cambridge and Forest Lake belong in 7AA...due to numbers uo North...ER and Andover do not...but the lure of playing regularly in the Class A State tourney...keeps the Duluth Marshall's and Warroad's from opting up to AA...which is :(

They could do it after one season. If I remember right Lakeville South when they opened was a single A school year one but for the second year they played AA for sections. I think the MSHSL worked with them because of not having a senior class their first year as well, perhaps same will be done here.
I know andover was 2 years when the redo the sections. I think it would be weird having one team jump in the middle of the 2 year session but if in fact that happened with south then it might be a possibility but i'm going with sachishi on this one that it will be 2011 when they make the jump to AA

These three became independent programs from being a coop of three?

Good for them but that must become a challenge to field three competitive teams and a JV program each now?

Moved Willmar and Litchfield back to 6A, they must be ticked to move out of 3A?
there is no way these three schools can each have there own team, they only had 10 or 11 skaters combined this year! must be a mistake

But, I'd bet that East Ridge goes to AA for the 2010-11 season. That will be the first year with seniors and would raise the enrollment.

Just a note that it does specify for the 2009-10 season only.

Not much for huge changes, however: just when I thought the mshsl was making some sense, Willmar and Litchfield into 6a??????? get some brains guys..... 6a definitely didn't need them, 3a probably did.

Congrats to Bemidji, back to where they belong.......

finally, I still don't understand section 5a...

They made a similar mistake when posting the section assignments for this past season, so I wouldn't read too much into what they have for next year.

it upsets me to see that they still have some sections in AA tougher than others(2AA,6AA) but i believe other sections will begin to gain more recognition. Expect a tough battle in 3AA(?) where cretin woodbury and av will be forced to duke it out.. these teams were all young this year and i think they surprised a lot of people.

Stattuck shouldn't be a member of the State High School hockey tournament as they recruit and see players outside of the state to compete nationally. This is not fair to the die hard Minnesota hockey high school team.

What exactly are they?

It's my understanding from a very good source that Chaska/Chanhassen will have one boys varsity team between them and 2 JV next year. They'll also only have one each girls varsity and JV between the 2 schools.

When I asked about adding another varsity team the guess was 2 years out at least.

I think New Ulm and Hutchinson had decent teams and Hutch beat Mahotmedi and Mahtomedi beat STA....

The best of the best....

I think that is great.

Not much has changed...2AA and 6AA still stacked, while 1AA remains the worst section in the state...

What do you mean jv teams? Half the teams in this section are lucky to put together 3 full lines and 2 goalies.
