SEMNHOCKEYFAN-- On your question regarding sellnow I believe the younger Kautz kid is better than sellnow and is projected to win the job. This would place sellnow down to JV to get some playing time if they don't alternate at the Varsity level. What a problem to have huh!!! This is in my opinion why I think Century will do well this year. After there first line with martini, anderson, and Kautz they drop off dramatically. But with this goalie in the mix he alone could win them some big games.

Mayo?

Does Mayo play three lines or two lines with an occasional third line to give the top two lines a break? I know the Century coach will try and find matchups they can exploit. Ex: Putting his top line out when opponent sends out their third line.

Orrrrrr, as was seen two years ago against Edina he may match up his fourth line as a surprise move against the first line. A real gutsy move, was even commented upon by FSN during its telecast of the game...the ocho.......

scarlethockey--- Yea you are right about the players however my point was that weber would have been the only one that would have made a big difference in the game. Bottom line is that all three teams that were there are very equal to each other and it should make for some good games.

This is what I think...

1 Faribault- has a strong junior group
2 Century
3 Mankato West- scrappy players, but put the puck away
4 Owatonna- Snorek and the first line will put the pucks away
5 Mayo
6 Winona
7 Albert Lea- Down year?
8 Mankato East- they'll be average
9 John Marshall
10 Austin- just an Austin season

Looking at the Mankato West roster, they were missing four guys from the football team at the scrimmages.

Scrimmage Scores were AL over West 1-0, Mayo/AL 0-0, and West/Mayo 1-1.

I also heard East and West scrimmaged last night? anyone with a score?

SEMNHOCKEYFAN I believe that most high school coaches play the kids who will give the program the best chance to win whoever that is.

If this Kautz kid is as good as people say he is, then why would his dad have to threatin the coach to play him

Well i know but think of it from Sellnows end.....He brought them to state.... and now all of a sudden he isnt good enough to start for them,,,,, so that they would stick him on JV......think about that

West won the controlled scrimmage against East, 5-2

what about winona? heard they have some solid retuning players and possible the #1 line in the conference?

Not exactly big nine, but Mayo beat Red Wing 4-3 in a scrimmage yesterday and controlled the game. They'll sneak up on a lot of teams this year if people underestimate them.

From the sounds of everything, this conference is wide open, as is section 1A. It should be a very competitive year for many teams in the Big Nine, and consistency will be the key for the team that prevails.

Good luck to everybody who starts the season tomorrow!

I believe Century sat a few kids last year for a game or two because of grades.

What are everyone's thoughts now that the first weekend is complete? If JM only played as good as their uniforms look they'd be state champs!
