However...there's much more to it than just Minnesota players. those WCHA teams have never garnered the attention or had the success recruiting top players from outside Minnesota and outside the US that the U, UW and UMD have had either, that I'm aware of. That's been a pretty key factor in the success of the Big 3 also I'd say.

I agree. There are quite a number of blue chip players in Illinois, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, Texas, California etc that these schools need to land if they want to be competitive with the top 15 teams in the nation.

Penn State will be a brand new addition to D-1. Both women and men's program. The women's team have committed many solid young players. Paige Jahnke is in for a great experience and will go down in Penn State history as one of the players to begin a new program. Good Luck Paige:)

All quiet on the western front.... Looks like nobody bit on joehockey's offer to let someone else maintain & update. Pretty quiet for the current juniors (2013-2014 college freshmen) too. Inquiring minds want to know.

Is this just a down year for MN as far as overall D1 level talent? I mean depth I guess... I know we have some great players in this class...

This yrs Ntl class was expected to be lower in total do to fewer SR's graduating. It might actually be skewed larger right now because of Penn State filling an entire roster. I believe there are 23 known MN so far which is consistent with what coaches were saying last spring in approx 25 MN getting recruited for DI rosters. I understand next yrs class top tier list is equally strong but the second tier is much deeper so that class should be larger. Last yrs total size was maybe an anomaly due to the large number of Goalies taken and the Canadian class not as deep which presented more opportunities for MN players. While more Eastern schools are trying to get skilled MN players, there are still several that do not aggressively recruit MN players at least in the font end. So that may mean 25 schools spending time evaluating MN players and maybe 1-2 roster spots so a top down view might say that the 30-40 recruit range is probably the right expectation in most years. A great opportunity for these girls who work so hard!!

I heard this the other day, it was a pretty solid source. Nice to see another outstate player go D1.

From Tonka Girls Hockey Website
Minnetonka - Junior forward Amy Petersen has made a verbal commitment to play at Penn State after graduation.

Minnetonka - Junior goalie Sydney Rossman has made a verbal commitment to join the Quinnipiac Bobcats women's hockey team after graduation.

Maddie Peake from Mounds View will be playing hockey at Princeton next year. She was an All-State player, lead SEC conference in scoring and was a key player for Mounds View's trip to the state tourney.

Wouldn't Megan Wolfe from Eagan be in this class also? I'm not sure.

Don't know how current the list is...but I sincerely hope no Minnesota kids got burned by the Niagara last minute shenanigans. Handled very poorly by Niagara University
