God....that's just ugly. Just ugly. I guess since the Governors made short work of Como this should have been expected. Sheesh...just ugly.

WB6162. I like your ideas.
I'd take that a bit further. Let's also force Cambridge to give up hockey since they lost to DE by 16-0. And Henry Sibley who lost to H-M 17-2. And Richfield who lost 13-0.
Actually, Como is ranked 135 out of 156 teams, let's get rid of the bottom 20 teams.
They suck and have no right to be playing in our fine state.
Actually WB6162. Let's ban all schools from playing except the privates and a few chosen publics. We can have a super league. Unfortunaely we'd still end up with some losers that we would need to drop, because we don't like losers.

This is nothing new, 30 years ago Hill played in the city conference. They scored 20,19,15,15, and 15 vs Humboldt, Central and Highland. They only beat Como 8 -1 that year, and lost to North St. Paul 2 -1 in the region finals. There are always going to be teams down, and or out. It's the ever changing landscape of Minnesota hockey. Hill has always been there, and will be for awhile. I see back in 81 they only beat Harding 5 -4 in ot. Harding hasn't had a hockey team for quite some time, but i know one thing, you don't want to play them in Badminton. :D

Puckguy19 wrote:At some point, sportsmanship is about more than goals. Did Hill have extended celebrations after goals? Were there penalties or non-calls that showed a lack of class? Was the atmosphere at the rink crazed? I am guessing that the answer to each of the questions is ~ no.

No one likes the lopsided match-ups, much less players and coaches. But you play the cards you are dealt, and learn from the experience. I've played in some of these games, won some and lost some, and there was nothing worse than being toyed with. I'd rather have an opponent go hard to the net, than play keep away, turn their sticks over, or pass up open opportunities.

My preparation for a game has to be accounted for, also. If I have a preconceived notion of what the end result will be, then maybe its on me to make the call to forfeit the game. Once I'm on the playing field ~ Game On!

No big celebrations of goals. They were quite subdued even after Guentzel scored the first goal. He just skated back to the bench and sat down.

Eventually it will be "St. Paul". Minneapolis is already united.

That would be up to Johnson and Como ADs and the families.

What about the St. Paul Saints and Highland? How's their future?[/quote

Seeing as Johnson just got out of the co-op with Harding so that they could play class A, I doubt they would want to co-op again and have to play AA

Does it really matter where you put most teams the private schools will win. Other than maybe Edina, Eden Prairie, Minnetonka most regular high school programs can't compete. It sounds like crying but private schools have taken most chances away from just regular schools of having a chance. That's just the way it is. Read it and weep!!!! Go Go Go Pioneers!!!!! I think what Minneapolis may have realized is that to retain kids in their school system, and potentially attract new kids to their schools, they need to offer quality programs. It's marketing 101 and the privates have figured it out as they're used to competing for students where the publics don't have as much marketing experience. Parents want good programs for their kids beyond the quality of the school. Offering good programs, whether it be athletics, drama, dance, chess, etc. is really important for the public schools if they have any hope of attracting and retaining students.

The A vs. AA discussion shouldn't have a lot to do with it. I think co-oping the teams in St. Paul will make for a better quality experience for the players. With a better team they may be able to retain kids. They will never be able to retain strong hockey players, and the revenue that comes with them, without improving their offerings. The public schools need dynamic leadership that understands what it takes to make their school the place to be.

Frankly, whole big neighborhoods need charismatic public school leadership. As the school struggles so goes the neighborhood.

Do we ask our fastest track runner to slow down so he/she doesn't win by to big a margin ?! Do we tell our golfers to miss 6 or 7 tap ins so they don't have to low a score ?! NO ! Como needs to get better, sounds like HM played hard. It is the playoffs.

Are you nuts? Minnetonka comes out of the toughest conf and section in HS Hockey and consistently puts great teams on the ice. Not only do they develop the kids to roster a great varsity team year after year, they roster the best JV team, best JR Gold A team, best U16 team and how many of their kids go to Benildes, Breck, Holy Family, ect, ect....?

Minnetonka is the best hockey association in the state hands down.

I would have to challenge this and say Edina is #1

I can think of a number of teams that consistently are better than 'Tonka. ER, EP, Edina, Burnsville all come to mind. Heck, even Moorhead, Roseau, Warroad and Duluth East.

I would agree except I have a clue. Look at the teams that are stocked with players from Minnetonka. It's not even close. Duluth East? LOL.

Oh, you have a clue, do you? If we're basing our observations on HISTORY, Minnetonka hardly lives up to the aforementioned organizations - from top to bottom, youth until high school.

Of course Minnetonka is in one of the toughest sections every year, but just basing their achievements (state TITLES), they simply are behind programs like Edina and Eden Prarie, to name only two. In fact, pretty sure Minnetonka has ZERO state titles to their record (only short by FOUR to my Johnson Governors - not to mention the NUMEROUS runners-ups and other hardware, LOL  ).

Minnesota High school league just looks at the number of kids in the school not how many play each sport. I noticed that Johnson ended up with 12 wins and 12 losses in class "A" and they can't compete with many of the private schools. The Minnesota high school league needs to take their blinders off. Remember when people use to live in the inter-city, things have changed.
Como lost a lot from last year and hill is that much better. That merger has been talked about for a while. As a former player for Johnson and considering the rivalry between the two teams, I'm not sure how well that would go over. Also Johnson played well against a tough conference this year. The tri-metro had three of the better teams in state and they for the most part (other than Breck) consistently competed with them. Just because a team went 12 and 12 in single A doesn't mean they are struggling.

Yeah, all things considered that's not that bad of a record. Some of those losses could've been wins, too, they were so close and from poor goaltending.

Yeah, they do lose about 6 or 7 seniors this year. I don't thinks it's that bleak for these teams although if you want to be competitive you have to adjust. I would hate to see Johnson and Como combine but if it keeps hockey in the twin cities alive its good enough.

Unfortunately I think it's on life support, but I may be wrong. Either way, try to support the club through the next few years or decade to see where it leads. If by magic a core with a couple D-I prospects and an excellent goalie could take them to the Dance. As we know Moose only plays a couple lines anyway, but you can't really blame him.
