Isn't Bazooka Training 101 a course at STA?

Change the State Tourney back to one class but have 16 teams going in. One section for private schools and the winner of that section has to face a large city section school in round #1.
Varsity coaches have to be teachers at their respective high schools. This is a school activity, too many people have forgotten that. Too many ignorant, small minded people ruining too many kids hockey experiences.
Team average GPA should have some bearing in the standings, kind of like fair play points.
Fighting or throwing a punch should be a 3 game minimum suspension.

Just wondering, what coaches in the state tournament this year are teachers? How about other top publics (is Curt Giles teaching)? I know Lee Smith teaches 6th grade in EP but I'm unsure about everyone else. Who has info on this?

Because Edina is assigned to that section by the MSHSL. They don'y just jump out of the lake for section play. In all seriousness there is NEVER going to be a method to satisfy everybody.
a NCAA basketball style tournament would be the best

Randolph teaches 4th grade, unless he's moved to a different position recently.

It's always been called the "State" tournament--not the "Metro" tournament. The metro schools (and their fans) who benefit from a metro existence, can't gripe when their tournament aspirations are ended by other metro teams.
G.P.A.'s are a meaningless criteria for hockey program evaluations. (Heck, they're nearly meaningless as educational criteria, and one school's GPA rationale 'taint got nothin' to do with another's.) Any crafty student can take an academic path of very little resistance. There are plenty of "A" students out there who are functionally illiterate.
Why deny a HS hockey program a fine coach just because he doesn't teach there? If you limit candidates to only those who do, or will, teach at the high school you put player development in the hands of a very small talent pool. Bruce Plante, Lee Smith, and Mike Randolph are fine coaches. Why potentially exclude these guys from coaching positions just because they're not in the same building as the hockey players?
Let's go back to the drawing board before we make any changes here.

A ton of coaches are teachers.. because that's the only job that can really do it. unless a coach is retired like an EX-NHL guy or something.

The law changed back in the early 90's when a person needed to have a teaching LICENSE to be a head coach. Now they need to pass a fundamentals of coaching course that is a certain number of hours including treatment of injuries, etc. And I believe hockey was one of the sports that was behind this change. Not that they pushed it but because a good number of schools that had hockey programs, mainly smaller schools could not find people with teaching licenses that had the ability and want to coach hockey.

I like 16 teams at State. We already have that. Only now we have two tournements. Let's have a 16 team tournement, only based on 16 sections. I would also be cool with 8 section champs and 8 at large ins....
I actually am likely in a minority, but do enjoy watching high school hockey more than the NHL or college. It seems like the purtiy of the game is at a much higher level in high school. So yes, televise more HS games.
I am not a fan of shootouts. Possibly entertaining, but, really??? I always thought it ridiculous that a game should be decided in such a controlled situation. I would be more in favor of no ties with unlimited OT's. Maybe even dropping players after a few to go 4 on 4 and 3 on 3... now that is entertaining hockey.

1 tourney 16 teams. 8 section winners in seeded 1-8. All section runner-ups host a 1 game play in with the 8 highest ranked teams that are left.
Makes all the section tourneys stay very important and gives a chance for the 1 State Tourney to have the best teams possible. A lot of great hockey is played in section tourneys and should not be done away with.
I will just keep posting this every chance I get.

I love the at-large bid idea. Unfortunately the MSHSL doesn't like to do anything different for hockey as the rest of their sports so they insist on the 8 sections by class and geography, eight team tournament.

I thought there was 16 teams playing at the State Tournament this year? Just remember that if you do 16 for the boys you would have to do the same for the girls.........

Agreed - some smaller schools have trouble finding qualified coaches, much less qualified coaches who are teachers. As long as the coach has the proper credentials for coaching high school, so be it. But "dad" coaches should be held to a minimum, if at all allowed, at the high school level. Too many politics involved with this scenario. Most folks had enough of this at association level.
