And by the way, it went off the stick. Here's proof:

HHF, you are incorrect. In order for a player to make "that" play, he had to have earned the right to be on the ice. As you are aware, not all were able to accomplish that.
ok, that comment was just plain stupid..
As usual, you miss the point.

That "still" photo proves nothing, I know what I saw and others agree with me...off Rau's stick, off defensemen's skate and into net.

Wow. I think my brain just fell to pieces reading that. Plenty of players can dive to loose pucks near the net and score. He had a shot at the puck because Kerr fanned on it and then he knocked in it off his skate! If Kerr's skate wasn't there, it wouldn't have gone in. End of story.

Let me just emphasize that I do think that Rau is an awesome player and is my pick for the Mr. Hockey award. He's most worthy of the award by a long shot. I do think that it's plausible that his skill and hockey sense led him to be in that place and time, but then again, who wouldn't crash the net with the puck sitting in the crease behind a goalie oblivious to the situation?

As for your sig line, I've heard its tough being a Yankee, too.
Rau might be a Mr. Hockey candidate but by no means is he a unanimous choice by a long shot IMO. Rau was not even the best player in the tourney. Adam Johnsom from Hibbing looked the best IMO, and he is a sophomore. Granted he played in the A tourney but still. With the performance he put up against Hermantown and the other teams was unreal. Hermantown did take the EP Eagles to overtime in late January so the competition was not inferior. Also, Labate from AHA, was probably the best player in the state. WBL #20 was just as slippery as anyone in the tourney also. We will see how Rau does at the next level.

He was the best Mr. Hockey candidate in the Tourney.

And his team won State with his GWG. It's a solid bet he will be given the award.

I think what he's saying not all players/teams were good enough to be in that particular situation.

Only two teams made it to the State Finals to go into triple overtime, EP and DE. The rest failed to make it.

Also only the well proven, trusted skaters on the team were used towards the end of the game. They were the only ones that were able to make that play.

I know it's a different way of looking at it but it can apply. Both of you have valid points of view.

Care to elaborate, shakey?

I found it fitting that Rau ends his HS career by flopping, my concern about Rau is seeing him get pounded by sophomores and I mean POUNDED. It will be interesting to watch him take the ice at UND next year.

How is that a low blow? Its a valid concern. Rau was getting rocked all night by DE.

And btw, you are wrong. The puck went off Rau's stick, hit the pipe, bounced back, hit Kerr's skate and went in. Anyone smart enough to watch the reply could see that. Rube.

I am a fan of Rau, I would agree I am a little concerned about that. As for DE rocking him I would agree with that as well, but you have to admit that if it was not overtime in the state championship game some of those would have been called.

I agree, several non calls that clearly should have been made.

Who cares what the puck went off of ?

The rules say if the puck goes completely across the goal line into the net it is a goal, unless it is directed in by a kick, high stick, or thrown by hand, and doesn't distinguish by whom or what.

So what's everyone arguing about ? Very simple !

I don't think it's proof either, but what a great picture! The goalie looking back and Rau completely laid out trying to knock the puck in.

It wasn't a pretty goal but it was a great effort by Rau. You have to respect a guy who was knocked around all game but kept coming at DE until he got his opportunity and somehow got the puck into the net.
