I was looking at the daily schedule at the mid-elementary level:
Total hours in school day: 6.5
Class size: 22
Core Subjects (Math, Science, Reading/Spelling, Social Studies/History): 4 hours (some specialized by ability)
Specialist (Foreign Language, Multi-media): 1 hour
Performance (Gym/Music/Band/Choir): 1 hour
Lunch: 20 minutes
Recess: 15 minutes
Typical homework is 1.5 hours/night
If Northern Educate is able to deliver equivalent educational value in the span of a few hours/day online, by replacing teachers and structured school days with laptops, internet access, and access to tutors, I believe it exposes our public school system as a sham.
I'd be interested to learn if students at Northern Educate are taking the state-wide standardized tests that are mandated at the public schools. If so, I'd be very interested to see how the scores compare.
Why ??
Isn't it obvious?

I don't see what the BIG deal is if kids go to Northern Edge schooling or Public / Private schools. Every parent is trying to develop a well rounded child in school and if they choose sports than great. Doesn't Breck & STA cost about $22k a year? Northern Edge is $11,500 a yr. HA -- there are girls that go here too.....
I don't have a child that goes to Northern Edge he goes to Public Schools. We have done clinics with Coach Yuro in Richfield. Very talented coach and means well. I applaude him for trying this out. Hey if it fails -- they at least tried. A bunch of you wanna be --- players now days, just wish you had the luxery of choosing schools and sports. Hockey is HUGE in MN and everyone is trying to make there kid a superstar at an early age. Heck, I have seen kids leave MADE now to go to BLADES or Reebok NAts. What does Blades have to offer that MADE doesn't? MADE is a great hockey facility and I have heard nothing but great things.
Good luck to the Northern Edge program.....I hope it works out.

I am a little bit wierd!! I like the idea of "whatever works" when applied to life. It never fails to amuse me that Hockey gets all of our blood boiling whenever change appears. My kids have played all sports and none of them compare to the passion that us "Hockey parents" have.
I don't have a problem with private schools competing against publics. I would say that in the majority of HS sports, the public schools dominate the private schools. Just not in Hockey.

Gowild... Why do you care where parents have their kids play? If it because they want them on the winning team, or maybe they think a Choach may help advance their child's development , or maybe they just had enough of MNMade sh#¥. Who cares. You have posted empty questions all day.
Start a new tred and please let us all know WHAT it is about everything....
Good luck to your 03 with the NATS next year...

Aha, that could easily attract some Minnesota youth players.

I would guess that Metro Ice in DSM will be a mailing address for Nothern Edge. Practices will be held in the cities. Just my opinion

The AAA team in Des Moines is going to be rostered by Des Moines Youth Hockey. I really can't tell you how this will play out, if DSM will just be the mailing address, or if the team will truly be based out of DSM. Given the amount of ice they have booked up at Metro Ice, I am guessing this will truly be a DSM based AAA team.

If they have the school there, that chews up 400-500 hours right there.

OG, you have not even come close to hitting the nail's head! Remember what I said last year, "there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."

Is Northern Educate having a school in Eden Prairie for 2013-14?

There is nothing better than "weeping and gnashing of teeth".

How goes it in Chicago ??? Did you let the wife fly home ??

Yes wife and girls flew home... Last remaining perk for a scum bag airline employee!! So I rode tripped with the players. And yes I car coached the piss out of them. Bruce Boubreau would be proud of me!! We loose to Vancouver Selects, Belle Tire, and Wolf Pack, finally win Fury. Belle Tire ends up winning the whole thing. We had great goal tending and a lack of goal scoring and toughness. But we are not too far off!! As far as expansion goes, it seems quite expansive. VH, EP, Schwanns, NY, Eagan, DSM are the current venues. Just wait a few weeks for some exciting news from this place!!

What a great question from another hockey savant!! Had 14 kids at the high school level last year and went 15-7-1. Looks like 2 years before winning AA varsity and A with junior varsity!! Seriously!!!
Yes girls varsity is here next year.
