Marshall will be good and shoudl be #1 preseason choice.

SCC has talent and in my opinion is #2.

SR should be in the running as should Princeton.

Denfeld has the best offensive player in the section - if not northern MN. The could challenge if the D East goalie transfer can produce close games.

good call elliott...Denfelds goaltending was bad to say the least. at the SCC/denfeld semifinal he pretty much made a mockery of the position.
2A

Boy, from what I have heard (and seen), Princeton will not be in the running for a 2A championship. They have one quality player and he is a very young forward who did a nice job for them last year and should be a top notch player from their area. But, most of the other top players from their team graduated last year, including their goaltender. I think they may well be on a downhill slide for a couple of years.

But Elliot, expand on what you may know that would counter what I have seen/heard.

Duluth Marshall had a lot of young guys on that tough state team last year, however i hear that Denfeld has a couple standouts as well... But my vote is with Marshall...Go Hilltoppers...

i'm rooting for denfeld this year. They have some good players, especially Jake Johnson.

Marshall will probably be good, but they lost some players and i'm not so sure about their goalie

who did marshall lose from last year. And what teams do you guys think will hurt the most from players that left?

I think that cathedral will hurt a lot. If i'm remembering right, i think they lost their starting goalie, a few forwards, and a couple D.

SCC lost their starting goalie, but have two ready to step into the spot. They lost one defenseman, and really only one forward who made a deference. They'll miss Schmidt for sure, and some of the rest, but I'd say that most of the holes are already filled.

OldTimer, you're up way too late for a college kid, you should be sleeping.. (right....)

Didn't Hopkins used to be in this tournament? Is it going down hill now that Sartell's in it also? I suppose they all want to go to Blaine or something..

This could be the year for the two A teams to play in the championship game??

It wouldn't be too surprising to see two Class A teams in the Final. It also wouldnt really be too bold of a prediction to say SCC vs. Sauk Rapids in the final. Wouldn't that be nice to see? I wouldn't be surprised, however, to see Sheldon Weston pull a Black Sox just so they don't have to play SCC two times in one week.

But if he doesn't, expect to see this college kid at both...Im excited that i'll be able to see two of the best 2A regular season games this year.
2A

The Granite City Classic is having trouble getting quality teams to play in this tournment for one reason. The refs are terrible. The schools from not in Central Minnesota are getting a bad case of refs that want Central Minnesota to win. Last year was a prime example when Virgina played that was some of the worst reffing I have ever seen. I am from Central Minnesota and if I had a team i would not play in this tourny for that one reason.

2a what are your reasons for sr not wanting to play scc?

way back when...

way back when, when you and i played...sheldon, NOT SR, didn't want to play SCC, Princeton, etc.
2A

You're exactly right about your refs point...In the tourney, the refs favor the Central MN schools....then, when its two CMN teams in a game, the refs edge favors the AA schools.
2A
