After some recent updates by the MSHSL, I think below are all of the changes for Girls Hockey beginning in 2013-14.MinnGirlsHockey wrote:The new competitive sections for the 2013-2014, 2014-2015 school years have been published: http://mshsl.org/mshsl/competitiveSectionsone3.asp
I didn't go through all sections yet but I did see a few interesting changes for Girls Hockey.
Achiever Academy (Northern Educate) has been assigned to Section 4A. 4A now has 9 teams.MinnGirlsHockey wrote:After some recent updates by the MSHSL, I think below are all of the changes for Girls Hockey beginning in 2013-14.MinnGirlsHockey wrote:The new competitive sections for the 2013-2014, 2014-2015 school years have been published: http://mshsl.org/mshsl/competitiveSectionsone3.asp

Change of section but same class:
Mound-Westonka from 2A to 5A
Totino-Grace from 4A to 5A
Chisago Lakes from 7A to 4A
Princeton/Big Lake/Becker from 7A to 5A
Andover from 5AA to 7AA
Buffalo Bison from 6AA to 8AA
Change from AA to A:
Bloomington Kennedy from 2AA to 5A
St. Paul Blades from 4AA to 4A
Minneapolis Novas from 4AA to 5A - LATEST CHANGE
Change from A to AA:
AHA/Richfield from 5A to 2AA
Rogers from 5A to 5AA
St. Louis Park from 5A to 6AA
Section 5A looks quite different than last year and 4AA is down to 7 teams (with no co-op's).

Section 4A still looks to be messed up a bit. Earlier Achiever Academy had Great River School and Twin Cities Academy High School in a co-op with them, now all 3 are split apart on the MSHSL website. I'm fairly certain there are 9 teams in 4A (not 11).

Yeah. Didn't have a clue whether varsity or JV. Whichever.AAA Dad wrote:

I'm pretty sure that Minnesota has 120 or 121 Varsity Girls Hockey teams. I think the Hubs include some out-of-state teams which is probably reflected in your numbers above.NotMuchToSay wrote:This is not related to Section Assignments, but interesting facts though. Numbers were taken from the Star Tribune Hub sites:
FOOTBALL
379 - # of Teams
7 - # of Classes (includes 9-Man)
54 - # of Teams per Class
BOYS HOCKEY
182 - # of Teams
2 - # of Classes
91 - # of Teams per Class
GIRLS HOCKEY
142 - # of Teams
2 - # of Classes
71 - # of Teams per Class
I think these are the "phantom" teams on the MSHSL site:sinbin wrote:Will the phantom teams please raise their hands?
Yes, it looks like 5 sections currently have 9 teams (4A, 5A, 3AA, 5AA, & 8AA) and thus will need a play-in game.Marty wrote:4AA and 4A have often had 9 teams before. Play in game required.
7A has 6 teams -- single A has fewer than the 64 needed to create 8, 8 team sectionssinbin wrote:On the flip side, any sections with only 7 teams?
