Are we sure Kivihalme isn't a before and after? Would seem its a possibility since dad is the coach.

Same was said for Paul Bittner. I don't think that's much of a consideration these days.

After a quick google check.

Nick Heid - Played at Spring Lake Park HS
Jared Mickelson - Played at SPA HS
Luke Osterman - Played at Stillwater HS for 3 games

Cole Weaver - He was with Russell Stover via Champlin Park
Matt Pulver - Wisconsin kid I believe - Regis/McDonnell/Bloomer HS

please correct if wrong

Brumm, Mickelson, and Heid have been added. Weaver and Pulver didn't play MSHSL last year. Osterman wasn't listed on mnhockeyhub as having played for Stillwater, but even if he had dressed for three games, that's hardly a loss for MSHSL... so I didn't add him.

Thanks all for the updates.

For the kids who are slated to play USHL and NDTP, it seems more likey that "most" of those kids will keep on living the dream at least through college.

Dont want to get off topic too much but - I came across this and it was pretty interesting:

"Over 200 players are selected at every NHL draft. How many of them go on to have NHL careers? What are the prospects for a player selected in the first round of the NHL Draft compared to later rounds?
Answer: To properly evaluate a draft, you need a few year's distance from it. So let's look at the 1990s.

To define whether a player "makes it," let's set the threshold at 200 NHL games. We'll call them "career players."

Between 1990 and 1999, there were 2,600 names called at the NHL Entry Draft.

As of 2007, 494 of those players have appeared in at least 200 NHL games. That's a success rate of 19 percent.

But of course, not all draft picks are created equal. The guys picked in the first round are a cut above the rest:

Success rate of first-round draft picks

Of the 494 career players drafted in the 1990s, 160 were selected in the first round.
Of those 160 career players, over half have played more than 500 NHL games.
Among the older players (those drafted from 1990 to 1994), six first-round picks have made it to 1,000 games. Another couple of dozen are still active and within reach of 1,000.
Based on the 1990s sample, a first-round draft pick has a 63 percent chance of being a career player.

Results can vary widely from year to year:
The 1993 NHL Draft produced 22 career players from 26 first-round picks.
In 1999, less than half of the first-round selections went on to become career players (12 out of 28).

Beyond the first round.

This is where the NHL dream begins to fade in a hurry:
From 1990 to 1999, about one-quarter of the players selected in the second round turned into NHL career players.

Those drafted in the third round and beyond are really up against it.
From over 2,000 players selected in the third round and beyond during 1990s, just 261 made it as NHL career players. That's about 12 percent"

And Spring Lake Park would have been the overwhelming favorites to go to the X this year in their new section... Must have figured the Backes way was the wrong way...

nhl draft

and how do you figure in the UFAs that don't get drafted at all? It's hard to define a pool, then assign it a rate of success. first, you need to throw out every draft choice who chose not to pursue a career in the NHL. yes, there are some. More in the past 10 years or so, with Euro players taking up more draft spots.

also, remember to toss out all the draft choices that couldn't pursue an nhl career because of injury. it wouldn't be a huge number, but it still chips away at the overall pool of players that are trying to be analyzed.

Yeah, this is pretty off topic. Most of these kids aren't doing this to reach the NHL, they're doing it to prepare for college or to earn a college scholarship (with a handful of exceptions).

Rudy - if all this draft picks that didn't make it in the NHL had even a 10th of the amount of heart you had they'd all be in the Hall of Fame!

You can't take out the injury factor, though, because that's just one of the many reasons players drafted at 18 years old don't succeed at the highest level when it all shakes out.

Back to the original subject, good luck to all the players no matter what decision they make on where they will play. Bummed to hear about Sheehy, will make it that much more difficult for the Blaze to knock off Edina this year...
