Me, too. Only the maroon & gold with UMD in the front.

Sorry boys, he will be playing for Minnesota's team...
UND.
Yon's fine and all, but I'll take the lawfirm of Poehling, Poehling, & Poehling over Yon, random, and random. Go Huskies!

Hey Hermantown this is how big boy hockey is played!!! Roseau half the enrollment of your "single A" school is going to OT with Lakeville North!

Well, that sucked. 2-1 North in OT.

Very fun start to the tournament. I was very impressed by Roseau. They played well on defense and from some of the reports earlier in the season it didn't sound like that was a strength for them. They controlled stretches of the game including late in the 3rd. They put in a great effort and should be proud of the way they played.
North on the other hand I thought was out coached for most of the game and played tentative at the start. The Poehling line I thought was trying too hard to create a perfect play compared to just getting pucks to the net, and I think Roseau realized that and had there defense clog up the middle of there zone. North did make an adjustment that seemed to work out well though when they moved McNeely over to shadow Yon. Yon still got his chances but they weren't as good as the chances he had in the 1st half of the game. Oettinger kept them in the game late and was the best player for North in my opinion. For a Freshman he is very talented.

Gosh both goalies played well!!! North is not a physical team at all and it showed. Will be interesting to see what type of pressure is applied to in North's end on Friday night....... Lakeville North in the semis..... Is a trip to the finals needed to quell the criticism of this team?

Is HM in the tourney this year?

Great game by both teams. Although both goalies played outstanding, IMO McNeely was the difference maker in this one. Much is said about the brothers and goal tending. Time to recognize the "D" on this LN team. Well done boys….

BLS, watching the game thought that the D was VERY shaky most of the game. 17 puked the puck up a few times in crucial situations that almost cost North the game. 20 played ok but the goalie truly kept North in the game. North will definately need to play a LOT better tomorrow night...... BUT they ARE playing tomorrow night and THAT is the most important aspect of how they played today........

He is one of the best d-men in the state. Him on Yon was the diff in the end. Sadek and Altavilla do a really nice job too.

This wasn't the 4AA final....this was an entertaining 2-1 game.

For those that had never seen North play this year, today's game was pretty typical in a lot of aspects. They controlled play in the O zone for more of the game and cycled the puck very well. Roseau's chances were on the break and from their top line. Usually North has a goal burst at some point in the game where they score 2 or 3 or 4 goals very fast. Roseau didnt allow them to do that today (credit to them) by clogging the middle and keeping North to the outside and allowing their goalie to make routine saves.

I understand how people can appreciate the Rams. They have a great program, even the ideal program, but why LN isn't cheered, even though they've never won it before, is beyond me.

Been walking around the X all afternoon looking for the Hill section
Now you tell me.

Lots of empty seats here. Guess no one buys tickets when there's no one to hate.

Hadn't seen Yon play since the "Elite" league but he probably gets my vote at this point for Mr. Hockey having seen all others since January. Got his small school to the tournament and had many chances to put one in including the OT that will likely be a tough one to forget. I wouldn't have known LN put there best D man on him as is being claimed. Bright future for that kid and the college team fka as the Fighting Sioux.

There's some recent history with North that isn't all that pleasant. The way the whole thing ended for their former coach and how the new coach came rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. It is what it is though. In 1AA they brought maybe 50 students to the championship game, pretty sad, Farmington brought 500+, so something is wrong with the support there too.

I don't know who or what runs the SSC but after what transpired with Apple Valley wrestling the past few years with this year being the worst yet and what is happening at North clearly there are issues and while probably technically legal it does bring ethics into the conversation and should bring some changes into eligibility rules, AV wrestling has already brought a few changes by themselves the past couple of years.

Just curious. What happened with AV?

It would take a while to explain, the strib covered this years issues pretty well. Over the last few years they had.....
*A kid throw a chair during a match
*assistant coaches grab kids from the opposing team out if anger
*kids living with coaches
* a 3 state transfer that plays football in Michigan but wrestles for AV
* a kid living with a kitchen worker
* most of their varsity is OE or out of state transfers
* the AV principal defended his programs use of out of state kids as "normal" for high school athletics in Minnesota.

The Guillotine has a forum like this but less tolerant, read some of their threads. From the outside it seems the inmates are running the asylum with little administration control.
