If you have a gut feel, what percent of total early departures were announced by end of June each year? We only have 7 so far, and last year there was a total of approx. 40. What does this tell us? Usually, don't most announce by start of Elite League at end of August? Will we get to 40 again?

3 are heading to the national program, and the other 4 are sure bets for the ushl. There are probably quite a few either on a ushl's affiliate list, or on their 30 man roster waiting for their final camps to try an earn a spot on the 23 man roster to start the season. More names I'm sure will be coming in the next month or so.

There were about 10 by this time last year. I think we get to about 30 this year, mostly because a few college committed kids have vowed to stick around and because so many marginal players left last season. 2015-2016 season could be another 40 departure season.

As far as I know Donahue is not on any USHL affiliate rosters. One name to mention is Alec Broetzman from STA. He made the 30 man in Cedar Rapids so he may be leaving as well.

My list from last year ended up at 38 early departures, but the Strib is reporting 41 left early. I'm not sure who I missed, otherwise I'd add them.

My count (which may not be exact) has 10 current MN high school kids on USHL 30 man rosters. And 46 current MN high school kids on USHL affiliate list rosters. Lists can be found here:

That list shows Tanner Tweten from EGF. He would be a Junior this coming year.
Does this mean he left for the USHL?

We can now add Lebron James to the list of those not returning next year.

Biggest thing I see on USHL affiliate list is that both LINDGREN (Eagan) and DRISCOLL (Eastview) are not on 30 man rosters, thus should both be back between the pipes, making 3AA a goalies section.

Not necessarily. There is a 25 man roster on 9/1 and the final 23 man roster on 9/23. A lot of kids take the time between now and 9/1 to decide if they're going to leave MSHSL.

Also, USHL teams will sometimes put kids they KNOW will be on the final roster on the affiliate list. They do this because the affiliate list has stricter limits and they want to continue to protect the rights of an older player on the 30 man roster.

True, keeping in mind that both were NAHL draft picks (Corpus Christi and Austin) and could, along with Ahrens (tendered by Magicians and not on Des Moines 30-man roster), make the jump to the NAHL, which is gaining a reputation as a solid goalie development league. If that happens, the door swings wide open on Section 3AA and the discussion of the top senior goalies in MN HS next year.

Well, he's on Lincoln's 30 man roster. So...

He may have other reasons for not being USHL ready, but I don't buy the frailty argument alone. This kid just had a great season in the USHL and was at the Kings' development camp this week. That was his listed weight for camp as well, though now he's listed at 5'10". All the Kings fans commented on his (lack of) size, but nobody said it hindered his performance. He'll play for Tri-City next season before moving on to SCSU.

I have no inside information in either case, and I'd love to see both come back. That said, I agree with OneMoreYear...you can't assume that the NAHL isn't an option.

Just thinking about hockey (i.e.ignoring the high school girlfriend/prom/sleeping in your own bed) some might even argue that it's the best option for a goalie, if their choices are (a) back-up goalie on a USHL team, (b) main goalie on a good NAHL team, or (c) one more year of Elite League/High School after you've already proven yourself at that level.

As a college fan who doesn't like to see kids leave MSHSL needlessly, I'd suggest Driscoll has nothing to gain (hockeywise) by staying in the MSHSL. He has his scholarship offer already. Time to start preparing for D1 level play.

Lindgren may want to finish out his senior year. SOMEBODY has to win the Brimsek Award. Might as well be him. He can get two years in juniors after that, which should be plenty enough time to get some D1 looks.

If Ahrens and Freytag leave, Wayzata drops from #2 to lower top ten. If they stay, they conceivably could give Edina a run for their money in a 2015 Section 6 one game playoff, and go on for a State Title Run.

No matter who leaves Edina early, they remain #1 going into preseason.

Edina is in section 2 not 6. Unless I missed a change of sections.

As for Malmquist and Dornbach leaving... they might be on the list but im not sold yet. I would be very surprised to see either of them gone.

Good catch. Senior moment. Still thinking about the Brnsville/Edina Section 2 matchup that could have been, with Sheehy

Anyway, Wayzata would be a 2015 section 6 favorite and then state title contender if all talent stays. Ranked 2nd in state only to Edina. Depth and experience, Freytag should have even better year after concussion last fall. Sorenson is a beast. And goaltending is top 5 in state.

Ill change my mind and rank LV North higher than IF McNeeley stays and they get Edquist in goal.

Nothing is for certain, but it's a good sign that McNeely is just on an affiliate list.

Confirmed via Twitter, TG's Jason Krych will play for Tri-City this coming season.

Ahrens' back up Schilling is also very good. Some Wayzata people feel there wouldn't be much drop off if any if Ahrens moves on. No knock on Ahrens

Omaha has a returning goalie and picked up another that already has 2 years of junior hockey experience. Not a easy road with the team that holds his rights. I say Driscoll is more likely to come back because he has his scholarship. If Muehlbauer leaves EV then I think Driscoll is more likely to leave as well to a NAHL team as the #1 or 2. I see Lindgren bailing before Driscoll but Almost can say differently. Lindgren is a 96. If he stays in high school he's an older goalie coming out to juniors.
