Looks like Edina won 6-5 in 2 OTs last night to take the top of the pool. Bracket play starts today. Per the site, the GWG was by JR Brauer, the son of a former all-state player and 4 year UMICH player. Kid's older brother is playing for Notre Dame this season. Great kids and family. Ton of penalties again.

Good move by MN hockey to add this opportunity this year. Anyone know why they were play in the high school category? Isn't JR Gold the equivalent to Midgets? I see they have an 18u tier II category. Why not there?

If JR Gold can play high school teams at nationals, why not here in MN?

DLOW The MSHSL passed a bylaw preventing any of their teams from playing teams not registered with their federation, their used to be an agreement with Mn Hockey to play each other within certain guide lines, I believe that part is still in the Mn Hockey handbook.

7-0 final, first game where they did not a commit a crazy amount of penalties.
Scored 5 goals in the first, 1 in the 2nd, 1 in the 3rd.
Shots were 35-7 including a 19-0 edge after the first. They play Tennessee or California in the semis tomorrow

Yeah, I think that is right, still only half the minutes they have normally been racking up though.
Still a lot of penalties, yes

JRG 16 is equal to midgets.

2-3, Looks like they lost to the JG teams from Lakeville and Wayzata, split with Stillwater JG, and beat SLP JG.

Jan-16 Wayzata (MN) 1 2
Jan-17 Lakeville (MN) 2 4
Jan-18 Stillwater (MN) 2 0
Jan-19 St Louis Park (MN) 4 1
Jan-19 vs. Stillwater (MN) 2 3

"federation" as in NFHS affiliate? Is this why the Shattuck teams did not play any MSHSL teams this year?

Iowa and South Dakota teams were probably affected by this rule as well, as they had usually played a few games/tournaments against MSHSL teams in past years but none this year.

On another note, the Edina Junior Gold A team did split two games with Shattuck's lowest 18 year old team, which Shattuck calls Midget AA.

Mitch,
You are correct,it was brought up at the June 2014 MN Hockey meeting. It also meant that out-state girls 14 would not be playing any JV teams that were close by meaning more traveling.

Midget hockey is actually high school age hockey, either 16U or 18U. We here in Minnesota have deciced to call it Jr Gold A, B and 16U

Mitch

From reports I heard and some that I watched online, this was the type of competition that was in St. Louis. A number of these teams play regular games and tournaments with the likes of Culver's A team and Shattuck's Midget AA team. This was the perfect level to send our JGA state champion. They were not over-matched at all and easily could have won the tournament. By all accounts, the goaltender for Santa Margarita was on fire vs. Edina. Nice run by the kids.
