Nor most other states, we get a late start here in Minnesota compared to much of the high school world. Given our weather that is pretty odd.

I expect games here will get canceled…..but far fewer than last year. Albert Lea has an outbreak but as of yet is still plodding along with athletics. I think that will be the norm this year.

Many talking heads are going crazy over the State Fair but don’t mention the Vikings……

I think Walz gets it, now.

Olmsted County has the highest vaccination rate in the state (0ver80%) but is in the highest per capita of all the Counties in the state in Covid infections. We were vaccinated early, most in January. Now it is wearing off I guess.

We need to figure out out to live with this…..as much of Outstate Minnesota has.

Just a thought but with King sitting out this year, Caledonia’s win streak will come to an end. I believe currently they are tied for #9 in the nation. They should #6 or #5 though. They were never at 71 going to catch De La Salle of Concord CA at 151 anyhow.

I hope I have to eat my words and they win another state title. They have 5 tough regular season games (St Charles, Lewiston, Triton, Chatfield, and Lourdes) before sections and state.

A little different year with Brainerd playing 6A football.

Curious how Brainerd will get seeded in 6A football when all they play is a 5A schedule.

I thought district scheduling was supposed to end that. 6A teams were supposed to be put in a 6A district, Rochester Mayo was a 6A school but schools that opted up pushed them back to 5A, as 6A topped out at 32 schools. The local assumption was that Mayo would be put in a metro 6A district instead of a Southern Minnesota district. That was the real fear last winter when the preliminary section breakdown came out.

Non football related but Sartell has a heck of town ball pitcher in a kid named Dominski….or something like that.

Sartell is cyclical.
They should be good this year, not sure if they have lost players...

Amazing how with a Covid rate accelerating at a rate last seen last fall we have how few games have been canceled. In SE Minnesota we have had 1 delayed from a Saturday to a Monday and zero canceled. Not a political statement, just an observation.

Down here West continues to roll in 5A. So does Blooming Praire even though they jumped up a class. Caledonia is 1-4 coming off a National high school winning streak. Having kids sit out or go back to their home school will do that.

Numbers are becoming a bigger issue, many schools have less kids playing. COVID restrictions in many communities meant a year lost. Kids who lose a year are much more likely to quit a sport.

On a side note John Marshall may not field a varsity hockey team this year. I am old, 1977 doesn’t seem that long ago, 1989 less so. I suppose people who cheer for SouthWest, Denfeld, Greenway, Hibbing, the school formally known as Sibley…etc. feel the same way. Getting old sucks……in many ways.

Again, football rankings are provincial and reflect a very limited point of view.
