They were the Whichita State Wheat Shockers, they dropped "Wheat" kind of like Nebraska dropped "Corn" and are now the just the Huskers. For you non farm people, you bundle (shock) wheat stalks together and stand them on end during harvest to save the straw and let the wheat finish ripening.
