NSP's Polar arena is terribly small for any amount of fans. half the team has to stand because they dont have enough bench space

Chaska's rink one is a decent rink but the darn locker rooms are small as hell. Best arena is Ralph Engelstads.

there is no debate.... Lilly Lake is by far the worst rink ever worse than Maroon and Gold (forest lake)

The worst arena was the old Breck arena. It used to be called the Golden Valley Ice Center.

I had a frost heave on the south end that was huge, No dehumidification at all so it rained inside the rink and only two tiny locker rooms.

It was a short rink only 185 feet long and when it rained out side the east side of the the rink would flood water would run on the ice from the walls leaking and play could not go on.

For years the players box doors opened into the rink until a ref skated into the door and was hurt.

by the time it closed and was torn down by far the worst sheet of ice Minnesota had ever seen.

Mora has ice chunks falling from the ceiling. The Elk River barn isn't much of a rink either.

This is a bad thread. There are many communities in need, and ridiculing them doesn't help.

Too bad the HS teams don't practice outdoors still.
And the youth teams only saw indoor ice when play-offs rolled around.
Maybe a little sacrifice would make some more appreciative of what they do have.

Neut is right again.

This is a fun thread. I think everyone is thank full for the ice sheet that they have, but some rinks are real nice and some have seen better days in the end this is just people talking on line to fill time on a entertaining subject.

There is a rink in Fargo that is in tucked away in a older warehouse area. Looks like it was once used as a cattle staging area. It has low, wood beamed ceiling. Lots of old school charm.

I actually didn't mind the Nortfield rink when my son played a tournament there this past winter. Old does not mean bad in my mind. My son has seen much smaller locker rooms in other rinks and the "crooked" boards give it more of a pond hockey feel where you don't know where the puck's going. People need to realize that not every town in MN has the money to put up new rinks. If all the rink haters want to donate to new rinks I can name many towns that would accept your money.

Lilly Lake is brutal. If you have a good vertical you can touch the ceiling but you wouldn't be able to feel it because your fingers would be too cold!!!

I think you might be referring to the 'Sunmart'?

And yes, as I remember it, it would be a great place for a little Rodeo.

Got to respect the people of Fargo/Moorhead. They will make ice opporunity happen! It may not be glamorous in this case. But, it's additional ice for the youngsters.

They had boards, I believe you meant they didn't have "glass" along the west side. Great for spectating. Had to keep your eye on the game...
The Olympic underwent remodeling this summer, appears to have new boards and glass all around www.warroadhockey.com & www.warroadhockey.com/pdfs/olympic060407.pdf
