What I meant but failed to say was that I don't think they will even go after an established hitter. Maybe a has-been who hasn't done anything for the last two years, a reclamation project if you will.

We're going to re-sign R. White again

Read today that the Twins wanted Robby Cano back from the Yanks if the Yankees wanted Santana. I like that kind of thinking, a good young hitter for him. I don't see us dealing with the Marlins, they are in the same kind of boat we are which is trying to unload their talent right as it is about to become expensive for lots of unproven, but cheap "could-be" great talents.

Twins acquire Craig Monroe from the Cubs for a player to be named later.

Is this exciting? I don't know. Monroe has had a couple of good seasons, but even those weren't anything to get too wound up about. At least he's not a long time "has been"... he's just a recent "has been". Maybe he can get it back - of course I believe they said the same thing about Rondell & Ponson.
One of the columnists in the Strib mentioned that he was probably going to be released by the Cubs anyway - wonder what the Twins' hurry was in pulling off a trade, when they may have been able to sign him for cheap if he was released.

Monroe isn't the blockbuster we're looking for is it?
Steve Phillips thinks the Mets could move Wright or Reyes and others for Santana.
The Mets can keep Reyes, but Wright interests me a whole bunch.

On behalf of Neutron, I present Craig Monroe.
Remind me not to go against Neutron if he's soliciting bets at the Liffey next March...

Well that explains Phillips' white goatee... it's powder falling from his nose, because he must be high if he thinks the Mets will part with either of those two - even for Santana. Those two individually (particularly Reyes) could be more directly responsible for wins than Santana - or any starting pitcher - in a season.
Sensational journalism. PB says Phillips would fit nicely in the desk next to Sid at the Strib.

Monroe is a good pick up if intended to replace Lew Ford.
If they are banking on him like they banked on Rondell, they havent learned anything.
He is the kind of pick up you make to add depth and if he turns out to be a nice surprise great. But if its "we lost Hunter but picked up Monroe" then see the thread entitled"It's Like a Nightmare"

Just when you think you've hit rock bottom, you fall another 20 feet. When will it end?
Its like a nightmare...

There. Now, thats the kind of spirit we have been looking for.
How long can the rest of this town go on this way with the happy face, lets keep things in perspective nonsense.
Lets get depressed about it and start booing and ripping all of the coaches , players and owners.
What else can yo do when "It's Like a Nightmare"

Word is they're going after Tony Clark to fill the DH hole... I think I'd be ok with that. Keep him out of the field and hope he stays healthy and he could add a little more pop than they've had over the last few years. Maybe a little Chili Davis-ish.
Torii Hunter is now asking clubs for a 7 year contract. Best of luck.

Clark would be an upgrade for sure.
But hasnt he had injury prolems too?
It looks like Hunter's days as a Twin are over.
This could get ugly.

The White Sox were disenchanted with SS Juan Uribe this year so today they moved John Garland for Angel SS Orlando Cabrera today. I guess some teams who see needs go out and try to fix them.
Also, Hunter is real close to a 5yr/$75million dollar deal with them as well. '08 isn't going to be a rebuilding project for the Sox as some had guessed.
1. ?
2. Cabrera, another Twin killer coming to the division
3. Thome
4. Konerko
5. Dye
6. Hunter
7. Fields (25 HR's in 370AB's during rookie season)
8. AJ
9. ?
This is an old team but not too old or injured to hit the pee out of the ball next season.

So it could be you!

Wait, you don't play. Just quit.
Anyone else see Podsednik got released by the Sox? Kinda surprised by that move, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Twins sign him to fill their DHole.

No I didn't see that about Podsednik and you're probably right that the Twins will snatch him up. I'm too lazy to dig up the numbers but my recollection is that he's been absolutely brutal after sparking the Chisox during their magical World Series year.
And the Torii sweepstakes continues to drag on, I'm hearing rumor of White Sox and Dodger interest.

Two words for Podsednik
Broken Down
Podsednik is done, he blew out his groin in '06 and has never recovered. He's been on the DL more than the field the last two years. His best tool was his speed and he no longer has it. Podsednik would be a worse signing than Rondell and Batista combined...trust me.

Got my season ticket renewal today... lots of mentions & references to Johan... none of Torii.
Also got a construction helmet with 2010 on it... no mention of Torii on that either.

I'll give ya $5 for the helmet.

Looks like Torii is going to be an Angel, he has signed in principal to a 5yr deal.
Funny how these things turn out, the Rangers and Sox looked like the lead guitars and in come the Angels. Don't they already have Gary Matthews Jr.?

Sad to see Torii go but I hope things go well for him in L. A or Anehiem or whatever the Angels call themselves now
