Centennial vs Moundsview

Tough way for #7 ranked Centennial to end the season. Extremely bad timing as influenza hit their team hard this week. Many missed school and practice all week.

MV is also fighting illnesses - no one is 100% healthy this time of year. MV had more energy in the first period and jumped out to a 3-0. Play was very equal the last two periods, Centennial could not get a goal.

No disrespect to MV however, in my last post I simply stated that it was a tough lose for #7 rated Centennial. Centennial has been healthy all year and to have influenza hit the top players in this one week is tough. Clearly, Wednesday's game was not the same team that beat #6 Minnetonka and tied #5 Edina...one would think they had higher aspirations than to NOT go to State this year.

Obviously, MV had more energy in the first period. (?)

Copied from the other post.

Sick or not, that's just how it goes. Maybe they weren't so much over rated, but more so maybe Mounds View was slightly under rated? I'm sure both teams had their sicknesses, boo-boo's, and personal issues. Wednesday night February 18th 2008 from approximately 5:30pm to 7:30pm, Mounds View was the better team. Congratulations!

Watched Michael Jordan have some of his best preformances while as sick as anyone, and left no excuses.

Very good game!
Edina was in full control, Minnetonka was out hustled most of the night.
Edina's depth was too much for the Tonka tonight, but Tonka is young and will get a chance again next year,

Good game girls!

Was a really good game tonight. As usual, Irondale got outshot in the game but I would guess the scoring chances were pretty equal. Gina McDonald managed to score her second goal of the night with a minute left in the 3rd to break the tie and send Irondale to their first state tournament. Too bad my Hil-Murray team couldn't be there to greet them. Anyway, congrats to Irondale and coach Rhodefeld. I'm not expecting Irondale to do too well at state as they got pounded by all the teams they are likely to play during the christmas tourney in Edina...

When you look at the scores this week games have been close so when you have pure scorers like Gina McDonald, Meghan Lorence and Ashley Bye you are in any game. Just like last night if you keep the game close you have a chance. All of these games will come down to a few key plays. Irondale found a way to win three games to get to State...if they put together a couple of more anything can happen.

You never know. Irondale's goalie played very well through the sections even if the few goals that got by her weren't great shots. A hot goalie and a few goal scorers can get you a long way. Look at H-M in the boys tourney last year. Same deal. At least I have someone to cheer for this year...

This is the Hopkins formula. Not so much a hot goalie, but a consistently great goalie. Then add Kortum, Johnson and Westerham, all with over 20 goals, and that's almost always enough to get the win.

Curtis Girl 2 G 2 A. No Question best player on the ice. Smooth, Fast quick hands, and vision. She is the real deal. 9th Grader plays like a seasoned Senior. I like my Steener, but this girl is going to be a pain in the .... for the next three years.

Why is this team not in the top 15?

This team is extremely quick. They really play well together. Big shot by their defensemen Erickson. she can really unload.

We were concerned going into this game. Their record is very deceiving.

They may be the hottest team going into the tournament. 11-2-2 in last fifteen games.

I hope they represent our section well. Good luck

We mustard up 10 shots. Elk River had over thirty.

Their record may have hid their true potential. I believe they were about .500 coming into sections and Moorhead may have been below .500 but it shows you that record alone means nothing without the context of SOS, etc.
