AL4-Northfield 2
AL skated in the first period, sorta skated after that
#5 had 3 goals.

Christmaseve did not look terribly happy.

That is a surprise. As soon as I see the stats, I will give my expert analogy. Were all your players there?

Did Christmaseve shine like a Christmas tree?

Can #5 carry this team?

I promise we are much better than Northfield.

No wonder the people from Northfield didn't have anything good to say about Faribault last night  They know all about the "issues" your team is having to deal with right now, be prepared!

Tigers come out firing
By Mike Simmons, AlbertLeaTribune.com

Wednesday, November 14, 2007 9:28 AM CST

After finishing last season as section runners-up and starting this year with a new coach, the Albert Lea girls’ hockey team wanted to make a statement in its first game.

The Tigers did just that when they scored their first goal just 13 seconds into its game Tuesday night when they downed Northfield 4-2 at Albert Lea’s City Arena.

The Tigers come into the season with a new face on the bench, first-year head coach Brian Blatti.

“It’ really nice to get things started with a win,” said Blatti. “We started off great, the girls were really intense and were moving the puck really well, but after that first period we kind of hit a wall.”

A.L. dominated the first period, starting with a Jenna Christensen goal off the opening faceoff that was assisted by Lauren Klick for a 1-0 advantage. The Tigers in the first period were just plain and simple better skaters as they beat the Raiders to every loose puck as most of the period was played on A.L.’s end of the ice.

Just four minutes after Christensen’s goal, she assisted on a Amy Gackstetter score for an early 2-0 lead, just as planned.

Then it was Christensen again with just 2:34 remaining, this time from Klick and Gackstetter for the 3-0 first period lead. Christensen led A.L. on the night with the season’s first hat trick with three goals and one assist to have a hand in all of Albert Lea’s points.

After such a dominate first period, the Tigers seemed to lose a little steam in the second and let the Raiders back in the game with a goal by Maddie Carras that made the score 3-1 in A.L.’s favor. A.L. goalie Kelli Hanson survived a 5-on-3 power play in the period that helped the Tigers hold onto the lead.

The third period saw the Tigers once again playing their up-tempo game as they outshot the Raiders 14-3 in the period. But of those three Raider shots one found the back of the net with just 2:52 left in the contest that closed the gap to 3-2.

Northfield beat the Tigers on opening night last year 3-1, but that wasn’t going to happen this time around when Christensen scored her third and final goal just 1:11 later and pushed the score to 4-2 with 1:41 remaining for the win.

Blatti praised Christensen’s strong opening-night effort and felt she worked well with her line mates setting up opportunities.

With the win, the Tigers start the season on a positive note at 1-0 but will have their work cut out for them Tuesday when they travel to Mankato to face a Mankato West team that beat them twice last year and outscored the Tigers 16-5 in the two games.

Northfield 0 1 1 - 2

Scoring Summary

First Period

What "issues"?

we really have 4 lines. #5 and then 3 other lines. If #5 would pass alittle more we would score more team goals. Christmaseve played well until the end when she almost let them back in to the game.

Tigertime....you must really just be jealous. Number 5 sets up great oportunities for all the girls on her line. She passes a lot and also skates up when necessary...she usually scores. Don't bring her down out of pettiness. And yes :D i do concour.....i misses a pretty easy break away, but i don't see missing a break away as 'almost letting them back in the game'. It has to go through 5 other people...i bet one was you.

I am sure #5 was passing the puck. Its just that her linemates can't handle the puck. So then she stops passing the puck. :D

Top 5 reasons why we all are jealous of Chrismaseve.

5. She can play a mean game of golf. If only it was golf season.
4. She quite often shows her Christmas Spirit at the games, with her red light show. I hear MW really enjoys the show.
3. She only has to see a therapist 3 times a week.
2. She really loves hockey more than others. If only she did not have to play golf, tennis, band, orchestra, honor classes, volunteer at the salvation amy, church choir, shelter the homeless, babysit orphans and promote world peace. We then would see her true passion. I am sure I left out some of her other activites. Twinn, help me out.
1. Oh yea, of course, she thinks Tinysota is her dad.

Christmas tree shouldn't you be at practice.

Faribault is the greatest and issue free.

I guess a .900 save percentage isn't good enough for some people. Besides, your feet were probably getting cold from standing around all by yourself the 3rd, less than ideal conditions to stop a break away. I agree with Twinnesota in his assessment, but I didn't think the game was as close as the score might indicate.

falcons,
I like your new and improved signature , very nice. Even for you, that post is a bit odd though. Why are you going after 'eve?

mngirlshockeyfan,
1.) Your roster
2.) falcons89 :P

I was at the last half of the game. With the due respect to Northfield, that 3rd period was played at one end of the ice. The shot count will verify. AL 14, Northfield 3. The score, did make the game seem closer. Northfield made a nice adjustment, in trying to get V free, on a breakaway. One of the hardest saves in hockey, is the breakaway. It is even harder when the goalie has not seen much action in the period.

There is the posssibilty of potential rematches, in the Austin tourny. It is still very early in the season with a lot of developmental potential.

I enjoy Eve and really enjoy playing against her. I was actually hoping to provoke Tinysota. Sorry Eve, that is the result of being linked genetically to Tinysota. :D Everyone wishes that they were you.

Good game tonight, any predictions?

It is called constructive criticism. For being in college you should learn how to use quote system. or are you really on our team. I know who you are,

Faribault is overated!!!!!!!!
