Finally gave in and saw Luverne play over at the Schwann's Cup, and was disappointed in their overall talent level to say the least. Ended up losing to Kennedy in the open division final. Few weeks later, watched as they fell to Johnson. Not that I don't believe in giving south west teams a chance at making it to the tourney, but has section realignment ever been considered in order to maybe give a state tournament birth to teams more deserving than those from 3A?

Oh boy! Who will be the first to bite on this? Take it easy on hammer99. He is new to the 3A thread. Any news on the seedings?

There is always the Junior Gold League!

The word was, and photographic evidence, that UND Head Coach Dave Hakstol was down in Marshall on Monday evening to take in the Lurverne/Marshall game.

So did you watch the state tournament at all last year? Luverne actually had a pretty successful tournament...lost to Hermantown 6-3, with an ENG. Absolutely dominated Chisago Lakes at Mariucchi, and went into double overtime with Totino Grace, ended up losing on a deflection shot from the point, a game that easily could've gone either way. Obviously there has been talk about section realignment in 3A the past years, where have you been?? Who do you want in there, Mankato West? They aren't so talented this year.. Have you seen the talent level in section 5? Yikes. The boys down south deserve a shot at the tourney too. I just hope whoever makes it for 3A can put up a good showing like last year.

It's like that in every high school, college, and professional sport. From football, baseball, hockey, basketball it's like that. Is it unfortunate that team B from Section (?) doesn't make it but the winner of section (?) does.
Look at the NFL this year, the Panthers finished with a losing record, many teams finished with a better record but they stayed home to watch.

Since the best in 1A beat the best in 3A, does that makes 3A #7 in single A sections (just ahead of 5A)?

They will be in the bottom three again. Until this section beats a team of any substance they will always be in the bottom three. Although a very average Mankato west team did beat cathedral. So I guess you never know. That's why they call it high school hockey. Coaches trying to figure out how to motivate 15-18 yr old kids.

The average Mankato West team that's only 14-2 in Big Nine play?

I'd say throw Delano and Orono into 3A. That would help. A litte out od whack, but no worse when they had Hermantown in with the St Cloud schools (I know Htown is in 7A now).

I don't understand the "average" part of a 14-2 conference record. Can you take a break from teaching English class and help me out?

When did the BIG NINE become a power conference?

Also how did the mighty Mankato West squad lose to Le-Sueur in December? The top team in the Big Nine, couldnt beat the 3rd best team in the Big South.

It would make more sense to add any combination of the Mankato schools, Le Sueur/St. Peter and New Prague rather than Orono and Delano I would think. You could then move Fairmont to 1A.

They were just certified as a power conference this week by the Federation of Hockey Conference Certifiers.
