Would it surprise you to know that Govs is the son of a Hill grad (prior to the merger with Murray)? It's always been a major disappointment in my life.

Yeah, but was he recruited?

.......People from Wisconsin that don't know that the left hand lane is the passing lane and that you aren't suppose to sit over there if you are not going faster than traffic is.
Sorry, my road rage is getting the better of me.

LOL. You must, then, be sick and tired of EVERYONE, Govs. You are typically either one.......or the other.

How about people that actually think they CAN win the lottery?
Standing in line behind such idiots, while they make their "donations" at the convenience store? (so much for convenience)

Someone has to win it -
IT COULD HAPPEN
$1 a play or $2 bucks a week is a pretty cheap vice by today's standards.
It's the people that think buying buying 3, or 5, or 10 tickets significantly raises their chances winning that I get a kick out of.

I just spent $20 for tonights game.
You mean I am not going to win?

Right? Tell me I have a chance. This is my

Oh yeah, you're the brilliant one, merely throwing down 1 or 2 dollars a week. The real idiots are the 3, 5, or 10 dollar donators?
You do realize that your chances at actually making ANY money are FAR better if you invest that 1 or 2 dollars a week, instead of buying nearly useless paper, right?
Most "vices" have some sort of guaranteed payout.............something that you enjoy, right? Where is the enjoyment in parting with your hard earned cash, each week, for nothing more than a paper stub or two?
"A fool and his money are soon parted."

It's all about the simple fact that
It Could Happen. For example, I'm a golfer and I'm not very good. It's an expensive sport and I lose a lot of balls. Why do I play? I want a hole in one. Should I quit just be cause the odds are against me...no. You know why?
It Could Happen
Did the U.S. quit because they were the underdogs playing against an unbeatable Soviet team? No, because
It Could Happen ...
It Did Happen

Mrs. Govs hit $10,000 and $2,000 on scratch offs a couple of years ago...
I think she's donated just about all if it back to the Lottery since then, but she did hit.
It's another form of entertainment. You also throw $80 into Wild tickets and what do you get out of that? If you get a thrill out of playing the lottery, so be it. It bugs WOW, I could care less.
I still hate punks who can't wear a hat correctly though.

Bad golf analogy.
I play golf too. Every time you play, you're going to hit at least one or two shots that are quite good. That's what keeps you coming back, not the endless pursuit of a hole in one. You cannot be playing JUST because you "want a hole in one." If you are, you're the first of your kind.
Bad hockey analogy.
Even the U.S. knew that they could beat the Soviets "maybe once in 10 tries". That's one HECK of a lot better odds than a lottery presents.
Sure "it COULD happen." But then again, you COULD just stumble upon an abandoned sack full of hundred dollar bills, from a botched bank robbery attempt too. Does that keep you pacing the sidewalks, day in, day out?
Seriously, let's examine the odds for JUST a bit, now, eh?

Wild games = Entertainment.
Lottery Tickets = Entertainment too? You're going to have to elaborate on that one. How is buying a lottery ticket entertaining to you?
I'm not "bugged" by you doing so. I merely think it is ludicrous for folks to actually believe that they have more than the tiniest sliver of a chance of earning anything other than empty pockets, from this endeavor.
And..........I fully agree with your hat comment. Cockeyed worn, fully flat brimmed hats, is just an advertisement saying, "Heyyyy....look at me!! I'm a complete stooge, and my hat proves it."

I'm not claiming it's entertainment for me... for some it is. Who's to say? Same thing with pull tabs. You'll see goofballs pulling those things all night long for for a chance to win $100, but they're having a good time with it. I agree with you that it's probably not the best "investment", but what people want to do with their money is their business, and so be it. Best of luck to them.

I typically agree with such things being people's own business, but I have witnessed more than a couple folks burn through their entire weekly paycheck in one sitting, tearing off tab after tab, forming a mountain at their feet. Somehow, I don't think they intended to dedicate 100% of their weekly pay on "entertainment", and across merely a single evening.

Sometimes people need to be protected from themselves.

I'll be somewhat kinder than ERE - I believe in natural selection and it is not the government's duty to protect us from one's self.
Are you a reformed gambler that has let the pendulum swing back too far that you have become preachy in regard to betting games or do you believe in big government being involved in all aspects of life?
I can understand the waste of money debate, I don't understand the comment I highlighted.

I'm actually pretty much always on board with what you are saying, here.
I am definitely NOT a big government guy. Unfortunately, however, we do have government aid programs that will gleefully bail these fools out when they DO make ludicrous life choices such as gambling their savings away.
I'd just assume they get help and save their own money, than to put an extra burden on the taxpayers. Surely, you can understand that.
