Welcome to the Top 25 Gophers!
It'll be fun to see a # next to their name.

#24 in the BCS no less!
Think Brewster could handle double duty and run the Vikes for the next 9 weeks too?

They should have a very good shot of playing on New Year's Day, correct?
I mean, if you look at it, they could be favored in all of their remaining games.
@ Purdue (2-5)
Northwestern (homecoming) (6-1)
Michigan (2-5)
@ Wisconsin (3-4, 0-4 conf.)
Iowa (5-3)
No Penn State, no Michigan State, Northwestern at home... Even if they lay an egg at Camp Randall, that should put them in a spot to play January 1.

So exactly how bad IS the Big 10 this year?

Very.
But God bless the land of opportunity!

People are pretty jacked up about the win over Illinois and thats good but lets not overdue it.
Illinois isnt what it was last year. They are not ranked and were not ranked when the Gophs beat them.
The Big 10 is down...way down.
Even if they won most of their remaining games, it wouldnt be a good idea to see them get killed in a bowl game they are not ready for on Jan 1.
Obviously they are better than last year but they still havent beaten anybody.

Jan 1st bowl game? Doubtful. We'd need Qutback or Capital One to get that and I just don't see us finishing top 3 in the conference. More likely is Alamo Bowl for #5 on the 29th or Champ Sports for #4 on the 28th. Keep dreamin' Govs

Look, I'm as astonished as the next guy about this, but at this point you have to ask, "why not"?
Really, there should only be 2 potential losses left on the schedule... at Wisconsin and Northwestern here. If they can get one of those (preferably Northwestern), that would put them at 6-2 in the conference and no worse than a tie for 3rd. Michigan St. has 1 loss still has to go to Penn St.; Northwestern has 1 loss and still has to come here then play Ohio St...
At this point, figure Penn St. or Ohio St. is a lock for the Rose Bowl unless they can sneak into the BCS title game (which would make the road even easier for the Gophers), and if they both win out following their game against each other this weekend, the other one could also go to a BCS Bowl, then a slew of teams at 6-2 - including the Gophers who would have the same overall record than Michigan St, and will have (hopefully) beaten Northwestern.
It can be done. The Gophers have the easiest path of any of the "2nd Tier" Big Ten teams to play January 1, I think that's fairly obvious... Now let's see what they do with it.
Then again, maybe the Tampa Bay Rays have skewed my usual pessism by thinking that
maybe the other shoe doesn't have to drop!
GO GARZA!

Maybe I am being pessimistic (I prefer realist) here, but I see 2 wins/3 losses left on the schedule for the Gophs. I'm apprehensive about the Michigan game. With that being said, both Mich St & Northwestern have 2 almost certain, possibly 3 losses left on each of their schedule. I see us at the #4 spot in the Small Ten, right now the #5 spot would be a huge disappointment considering how the season has gone. However, if the #5 spot was offered to anyone but Brewster prior to the season, I think they woulda done 3 backflips while accepting it.

I dont know if it is this simple or not but I thought I heard somewhere that if you finished in the top 25, you play on Jan 1 or after because there are like 13 Bowl games from Jan 1 thru the BCS championship game.
So, if the Gophers hold their current positon, there is no reason why Govs wont be nursing his hang over watching the Gophs on New Years Day.
Also, with the schedule they have , there is no reason why they cant stay in the top 25.

There's no guarantee of anything by finishing in the Top 25. It's all about bowl tie-in's.

Regardless... I am talking about his mutual funds. Not the Gophers. Don't quit reading...
